I'm with you on the 301. I'm looking for a 401. I've pretty much had it with the modern plastic machines. I love my two Janomes, but when they're done, I won't replace them. I can maintain the Singers myself, so they're more cost effective IMO.

I love my Janome MC11000SE for embroidery and it sews well. I love my Singer 15-75 for bobbin work. And I cannot determine which of my treadles I like the best. I just love the oldies!!! Of course the FW for classes and retreats.

I like the Janome. You get more for your money then with a Bernina and they're built well.

Oh my word. How many people are on this board? Because that is how many different answers you will get. You need to narrow it down a bit. How much do you want to spend? What features do you want?

Personally I have a Pfaff. I have had Pfaffs for the last 30 years and absolutely love my machines. It has IDT which is a built in walking foot. But my new one is huge. It has a 10 inch throat and all the bells and whistles. It is very difficult to take to classes and retreats because it is so big and heavy and I am thinking of getting one of those small portables for that.

I do most of my sewing on a Janome 11000. I bought it because (a) I already had (for many years) a Janome that is a real workhorse and a pleasure to use and (b) wanted a brand of machine sold & serviced by our one & only neighborhood Sew & Vac dealer and (c) wanted the "move up or down" capability of the screen ... at that time, I had really bad shoulder/neck pain from an old whiplash injury ... and I can move the 11000's screen up to eye level and (d) liked the fact that it does machine embroidery without having to attach an embroidery gizmo ... this one has a carriage arm that you open/close.

I can upgrade it to an 11000SE, but I can't justify the cost, etc. of doing that because I quilt on an entirely different machine.

I have a Bernina, and I love it. I even quilt with it. It's an Aurora 430. I used the Stitch Regulator for my quilting. It's awesome!
