What are your thoughts on this?

I really like your idea. I know I have several quilts that are smaller than my king bed, and I usually fold them on the foot of the bed, but when I have another quilt on the bed, you really loose the quilts. Thanks for the idea.

Dingle, I think it is a very good idea. There are many wonderful patterns for bed runners, as they are called, that can be used across the foot of the bed. Many table runners could be used in that position on a bed, for that matter. Also, I bought a book years ago called Pillow Toppers. In the book there was a plain red bedcover. Then a pillow topper made for each month of the year that coordinated with the red spread. The pillow toppers were about 18" wide by the width of the bed. I had big plans to make 12 Toppers and copy the whole book idea. It is still on my list of someday projects.

I think that is a great idea. I may do that so I van use some of the smaller quilts I have kept. That way I will be able to display them too.
I keep off white shear curtains, with mini blinds on bedroom windows so they will go with my quilts. I also have a couple of off white dust ruffles and they go with my quilts also.
As we age it gets harder to handle large heavy quilts.

I really like your idea! I don't mind piecing and would probably do a reversible. Colorful blocks on one side and a lovely cream on the other with beautiful quilting that would enhance both. Hmmm, thanks for the idea. I have been struggling (and probably over thinking) a quilt for our queen bed. The pieced side could reflect the colors of our bedroom and the neutral side could be used with seasonal bed runners. Very versatile and lots of bang for the bucks!

Nobody has mentioned the cat. Maybe they thought it was a pillow. I too am going to the bedspread with smaller quilt idea. I made one quilt bedspread and while I love it and the weight of it in the winter, I will never attempt that again. I have two dogs and a cat to decorate with.

Thanks to everyone for replies. I think I'm going to do it. Have been looking for a bedspread which isn't the easiest thing to do. Thinking I would like it to be 118" x 118". My bed sits so high and I also want to be able to tuck the pillows. If I can't find one I may see if my LAQ can do like a whole cloth but not with so much quilting. I don't want it to draw up with heavy quilting. If anyone has any more ideas please post them.
Thanks again
