Due to a long involved story, I'm at my Dad's for the next month or so, without a machine. (Why didn't I bring Betty the Backup? Dunno. Your guess is as good as mine.)

My aunt loaned me my cousin's Necchi 4575. Apparently it was a gift when it was new (When was that-late 80's? Early 90's?) but Cousin prefers her original Singer and might be persuaded to sell me this one, if I'm interested.

Am I? Dunno. My main sm is a Singer 237. Betty the Backup is a White from the mid-90's. She was actually my main machine until last year, and still sees some use; there are just some things that are worlds easier with a free arm. This would likely end up my backup.

This one was dirty-I cleaned the heck out of it-and smells like a wet basement, where it's been kept. It appears to work fine, and has no visible rust, so I'm no concerned about its innards. If I do get it, I'll take it to my osmg whenever it is I get back home. It does come with all its accessories and manual.

I know Necchi is a good name-is this mchine ok? Any quirks or foibles I haven't found yet? When was it
made? What do you think a reasonable offer for it might be?

i found it using the bing! search engine.

    this is the brand-new one.

having said that, if i liked it a lot (only) i would offer $25.00, no more.
you can find ones that age often and she's not using it anyway.

i would not feel compelled to buy it just because she loaned it to me, although it was very nice of her.

btw, i got necchi for my 14th birthday and it gave up the ghost when i was 54. i used it every day for my dressmaking business and my own family. now, it's out to stud (no ooomph left but still running) in upstate new york.

edit: mine was bought in '56.

It's not so much that I feel compelled to buy it as it is that I've been looking to upgrade my backup machine and this one sort of fell into my lap.

Thanks for confirming my thought that they're good machines, though. I knew they existed but have never used one. Other than the weird bobbin winder (it's on the right wnd, under the handwheel) it seems like a nice machine.

i had forgotten about the winder, but you'll be nothing but happy.
i still wouldn't offer a lot, though, all things considered. if she wants more, she'll say so.
