You need a progression of instructions to follow.

Join a quilt guild in your area. They love to take new members under their wing, they might have inexpensive workshops and they usually have a book "library" that their member donate to.
I would take a beginners class too, if you can. Or even sit down with another quilter if you know one. You will learn more tips and shortcuts in a day that will save you so much time, money and headache in the end. Good luck, stick with it and let us know how it goes.

Step 1... find a SIMPLE quilt pattern ... a 9 patch is a very good place to begin. Most beginners needs to start with a 12 inch block
Step 2... decide if you want a "scrappy" - many colors or a "planned" - only certain colors
Step 3... decide on what colors you want in your quilt....
Step 4... Accurately cut out your squares...
Step 5... sew these squares together using 1/4 inch seam allowance.
Step 6 ... post pictures to this board so we can ooo and ahhh over your beautiful creation.

Step 3a - wash, dry and iron/press your fabrics before cutting them
Step 7 ... press as you go

Yep, definately - find the pattern first, then go from there.

I wondered if there really was a morningstar signed on --because when I joined I was told someone already had the name. Eventually I did get close with my second "n"
left out. Guess I should have joined sooner rather than being a lurker for months.
Thought by this time you would have started some big projects.
