Default Feathers and craftsy...

I cannot seem to grasp the concept of Feathers...
One side is okay and the other side is nuts...
Anyone have any advice?

Print out some feathers that you like and trace them with your finger until you get the hang of it. Then practice drawing them with a pencil. Practice, practice, practice - that's the only secret - just remember that you can practice without sewing.

I can do feathers only from the bottom up. I just make sure to do both sides from the bottom. I draw in my spine with chalk and do the feather up the right side. I stitch down the chalk line and then start up the left side. It helps some people to think of the feather shape as 1/2 of a heart.

Try to do the side you have more trouble with first. I found it was a great help.

It's true that drawing them out DOES help. At first I didn't understand...

Drawing and/or tracing helps a lot. I use a dry erase board to practice.
I also do both sides in the same direction. Stitch stem, do one side, retrace stem back to starting point, then do the other side.
