Default While FMQ The Quilting Foot Picks Up The Thread

This just started happening yesterday and it's very frustrating. I was just quilting along and then notice the quilt wasn't going anywhere. The open foot of the FMQ foot had picked up a thread and pulled to almost an inch long. So I had to stop, rip it out, go back over it. This happened about four times yesterday. I don't understand why it suddenly started. Has anyone had this happen?

No, it hasn't, but it might, so hopefully someone will have a solution.

I switched to a closed foot for that reason. I got tired of it getting caught.

are you having skipped stitches? and are those being caught in the foot? if not, are you pulling the bobbin thread up to the top and holding it when you begin your stitching?

I just change to my closed toe foot. I have not had the open toe catch a stitch but I have had it get caught on some areas of a quilt with raised or rolled edges.

I had a closed foot on my old machine. I'll have to look for a closed foot but I don't think one is available for my machine!

I know people talk about being able to see stitching better with an open toe foot, but I really prefer a closed toe foot. Especially when using templates.

If your foot is catching stitches, my first thought would be that your FMQ stitches are too long.
