I have a sweet 16 but understand Baileys are less expensive.
Didn't know that when I bought mine... but I do LOVE IT!
I wonder how many here have one?

I'm buying a baileys this month finally. I have been using a friends for the pst year. They come in 13,15&17 inch throats with or with out a frame and sit down. For a basic affordable machine I love it

I have the Sweet 16 as well and absolutely LOVE it! I still use the Janome 6600 for everything else, but the 16 is amazing for super big quilts. I just finished one 122 x 115 and it worked like a dream.

In line with this discussion, at what price point do larger throat machines start?
It seems like all the new machines have considerably smaller throat space than the vintage machines.

Was looking at this yesterday. It is only $599. and looks like it would be good for quilting.

My Janome 7700 has a very large throat--over 11" they say and I did a King on it without any problems on it in April. I must say that using a thinner batting made a world of difference as opposed to a thicker batting (poly)....with a thicker poly batting, there simply wouldn't have been room.

But the average cotton batting is quite thin--thinner even than the thin poly one I used--so for people using cotton, doing a King on a Janome 7700 or newer, shouldn't be a big problem with space.

I also did my king on my Janome 7700 - it pays for its self in no time if you send your quilts out now to be quilted. I love mine.

If you are happy with your DSM, you might want to consider the HQ Sweet 16 ... 16" ... with lots of height which gives amazing visibility that you'll never get with a DSM>
Love the sweet 16 - so much space and the throat part is in front and behind the needle not to the side...makes it so much easier to do FMQ

Thanks for asking this question. I FMQ and my DSM has about a 7" throat. I manage to get the quilting done but it can be struggle on my larger (queen quilt) projects. So I'm interested in seeing all the answers. good to know.
