Default Who was she??

Hi all, some years ago I read an article about an elderly (white) lady who was roughly in her 80s. As far as I remember, she had been existing in a fairly restricted and traditional patriarchal household, and her one outlet was in her quilt-making. She would make quilts that were traditional looking to the naked eye, but she created secret pockets that only she knew about, which when folded back would reveal scenes of all kinds that would not be approved of in her community. They were subversive and bold from what I remember and in the photograph taken of her she is holding one of the folds back and has a mischievous grin on her face. This was her silent rebellion that kept her sane.
I have been trying to find that article or identify who she was but have not been able to find anything about her since. Does this story chime with anyone out there?..

Nope. It's news to me. I wonder how true this is.

Good question. It makes a good story but is it true?

Well, unless they managed to get an 80 year old to pose smiling with a fake handmade quilt for a fake article, I imagine it was true.

Same here. It was some years ago since I saw it. I had hoped someone may have heard of this woman through other sources. A pity there's no lead, but still a wonderful story!

Thank you, I appreciate you giving it a go. If I ever find out who she was, I'll post it here 😊
