I've started using them to attach the binding onto the front side of my quilts. Also I've used them going down the seam lines on my sewing machine mat, simple stitches but still made an impact. Used it once for a pintafore for a vacumn doll. I'd goofed up when cutting the fabric and didn't have more so had to use 2 simple fabrics. Decided to spice it up with decorative stitching using embroidery thread so it shined right down each seam. Really looked nice. Sorry have no pics of it as my sister has it now.

In my case I never seem to find the time to play around with them. I just bought a Bernina 770 but my 150 has a lot of stitches I never used.
But now I have a granddaughter and I expect to use some for things for her. I just need to devote some time!!!

Since this thread started I've used decorative stitches twice! First my hubby had me embroider his name on his microfiber bowling ball cloth... I set it up and just let it repeat Todd Todd Todd all along one edge.

And then I just finished using the serpentine stitch for the first time quilting down a donation quilt. I should have mellowed out my curve a bit to mimic the jellybean jiggle but I liked it on my test sandwich and was already committed to the curve I set by the time I decided I didn't like it with the fabric.

If I do buy the sewing/quilting machine one thing I am looking forward to is all the decorative stitches to use,oh my!!

I recently finished a string quilt that in one border row of blocks I did a decorative stitch from my sewing machine. I was trying something new and it looks pretty good! I also used one on a Dresden Quilt years ago and that gave it a totally different flair.

When I first got my current machine with a gazillion stitches, I forced myself to make a sampler on a quilt sandwich with all of the stitches and adjustments (longer stitches, wider stitches, etc) marking all the info beside the stitches and adding tension adjustments that I made. Now if I decide to use a decorative stitch in my quilting I look at my sampler to see what I like and what will work. I don't over do it, but I do have fun with them. Incidentally, not all of the stitches worked -- and the sampler tells me that too.

Just finished this quilt tonight and I quilted a fancy stitch all the way around the quilt following the binding. The main part of this quilt is bow ties, so this stitch seemed perfect (I know it is probably kite string, but I'm calling it bow ties)

i use mine when i do strip quilting. i love to make DOP bags, the squared off pouches, i'll top stitch in fancy stitches. also, i make the quilty roll ups. they are a strip of 12 x 6 fabric, i prequilt and are stripped. then i sew them together with 2" yo yos on the end. sew a ribbon to the short side, and wrap it around to tie. i'm sure it's called something else, but i don't know what it.

I have used plenty of mine for purses I made with salvages. The first one I change thread each piece. But the next ones I used a color that would blend.
