I like Ami Simms. She designs fun patterns like twisted sisters and rag jackets. She has a great sense of humor, is a wonderful teacher, works hard to raise money for alzheimer's research, and she adopts her dogs from the shelter and trains them. Check out her web site if you need a good laugh today.

When I first started quilting, I purchased a VHS tape from Georgia Bonesteel, and regret she never did more, or at least none that I knew about. Her visual and written directions were very clear, and I especially love how she makes her not to being quilting. Then she came out with Spinning Spools, with monthly patterns and plastic templates. My daughter picked out one of her patterns for the first full size quilt I ever made and hand quilted. I also love watching Eleanor Burns on TV and have several of her books. Her directions are very easy to follow and you get beautiful results. I especially love her story about how she had become a single parent and began teaching quilting and making patterns to make a living. Mary Ellen Hopkins is another favorite, with simple directions for stunning results, and in person she is quite funny. I also learned a lot about paper piecing from attending a class with Carol Doak.

AB-SO-LUTE-LY!!!! I learn so much from her shows and from working out of her books. She is great with clever shortcuts. For a while I couldn't get her show on TV and I found I missed her like an old friend. Now I have found her on RFDTV and she is recorded each Wednesday. I also bought some of my favorites on DVD.

I like a lot of them. We shouldn't overlook the ones here on the board - like dunster!

Eleanor Burns!!!! I forgot to say why! Because her patterns are easy to follow. The step-by-step instructions sometime can be elementary but they work!!!

Also she is a traditional quilter and so am I

great question!! And I have seen some names I am not familiar with so will follow up. I like Edyta Sitar, Judy Niemeyer, purses from Lazy Girl, Possibilities, and Debbie Caffrey.

Judy Neimeyer - I love all her paper-pieced designs. I have a bunch of them just sitting here, waiting for me to get at them!
