Of course! They come up with a new ruler, and then they come up with a pattern that uses the ruler. Then they give you the pattern for free - creating demand - and oh hey, there's a ruler to help you! $$$ (And if they're REALLY good, they can make you pay for the pattern, too!)

It's the same thing every industry does. It's up to us to decide when it's a worthwhile investment and when it's a gadget that will sit in a drawer.

If everyone just bought what they needed there wouldn't be anything but a general store in every town.

I have one and only one ruler that I use for everything..it is the Fiskar ruler with the attached rotary cutter...Luckily the company will be making them again sometime this year..I have had mine for 10 years, and am afraid of what will happen to me if it ever breaks!! As long as you know the measurements for the triangles, you should be able to cut them without a special tool..I think they make you feel like you need a new one, to increase sales!

Every now and then a specialty ruler comes in handy - I don't like cutting using a template - I make too many mistakes!!

I don't have too many rulers but certain ones make life so much easier.

Right now I can't FIND my rulers. Family came for a visit and in the house cleaning spree...well I sure don't know where they are. Sure is amazing what one finds when one is not looking for that. I even found my certificate of live birth. But no rulers. Any suggestions?

I to was spending to much on rulers and besides they could be used only on that quilt so now I never buy a book or pattern that requires a special ruler unless I can figure it out and make my own template

I thought I needed the rotating cutting board but have found that since I have a kitchen cutting board, I no longer use and a lazy susan ring, they both work just find. I did invest in a good rotary cutter. You can also make your own templates. Box cutters and exacto knives work great for cutting templates.

I bought the Tri-Rec Rulers before I even started quilting and have used them several times. I paid so little for them when I bought them that they have more than paid for themselves.

I knew I wanted to quilt so whenever I found supplies on sale, I purchased them. It has proved to work to my advantage over the years.
