I have a Juki TL98E and love it. It has the needle down function, the thread cutter option and the leg lift option. I have done quite a few quilts on it (various sizes) and it is a workhorse.

If you machine quilt . . .having the ability to lower the feeddogs is vital. I don't think the Janome has this capability but I'd check. The Juki does.

The Janome has a cover for the feed dogs but they are easily removable as well. I've seen fewer complaints on my machine quilting groups with the Juki. Many people seem to have trouble threading and tensioning the Janome. There are a few different versions of both machines though so make sure you get the version that has the features you want--thread cutter, needle up down, domestic needles, knee lift, etc.

I love my Juki. I quilted on it alone for a few years and last year I got a Grace Mini Pinni frame. I love the combo. My machine works great on it and it make quilting much easier on my hands and arms.
