Working with fleece

Working with fleece
Some of you ladies (or gentlemen) who have worked with fleece please offer me some help. I am trying to make a simple rectangular fleece cover for my 3yo gs. Do you have any tips on squaring up the two pieces of fleece. I plan to sew down the two long sides and then fringe the top and bottom. Or I may just seam it all the way around, turn and finish with a decorative stitch around the edges. Simple huh? I have been working for an hour trying to square them up and I don't think I have it yet! Thanks for all the help you can offer me.

I just made 2 this past week, both were 2 yd cuts. I just laid them down on my kitchen floor, wrong sides together, cut one side straight, then straightened the other 3, making sure I cut off the selvedge edges. I fringed all 4 sides, so I cut a 4 inch square out of each corner, laid my ruler on a side with the 4 inch mark on the edge of the fabric, ran a length of painter's tape next to the top of the tape. Then, with a 1 inch wide ruler, I rotary cut my fringe. If you go to the Project Linus website, they have a tutorial there on making a tied fleece blanket like this, complete with diagrams.

So it's ok not to have it really square? I can't get down on the floor, plus how do you cut it on the floor? I have to use a rotary cutter due to arthritis in my hands so that's a must. Well, I hope it will be square enough. I am not fringing it as dad didn't want that so will sew around it on two sides. I just didn't want it to hang weirdly, you know? Be all cattywhomp! (sp?) Thanks for the help from both of you. I will keep on keeping on till I get it done.
