In the 1800's women used chintz for applique. It was showed the wealth of a family that had it in their quilts. They would take the different prints and applique them onto their quilts. Beautiful!!

I love chintz for broderie perse. The florals are always so beautiful. I have also free motion quilted chintz on the back of some quilts by stitching around the flowers. For some reason the heavier fabric was a lot less trouble to work with.
