My version of a "Can't Miss" shop when I'm traveling would have to include:
a promotional shelf - older line fabrics for cheaper prices
kits to match display quilts
helpful, but not intrusive workers
something unique that sets the shop apart

For my local shop I also want classes, a shopper loyalty card, people who are enthusiastic about the "Show and tells" I bring in.

I'm thinking what we want in a shop to visit would depend on what we have at home, level of expertise ...

Thoughts?

I want friendly people, lots and lots of fabric and beautifully displayed sample quilts. The best so far was in Limerick, Ireland...shop owner stopped at 3pm, made tea and served cookies for everyone there. We all sat around the cutting tables and chatted for about an hour. My DH did the dishes while we finished chatting. Lovely afternoon. So fun!

A big box in the back with pre-cut 6yd pcs for backings at greatly reduced rates. My favorite shop in Richmond, VA has that and I will drive the 95 miles to dig in that box.

Friendly people!! I cant tell you how many shops I have been in or called, and I always feel like the people working in them are rude, uncaring and just make me feel uncomfortable! Why is that?? Anyone else feel that way?

I would also like to see fabrics that represent the region where the shop is located, so that one can use the fabric to remember a vacation.
