Absolutely! 99's are work horses. They will even sew leather. I good friend of the family gave me her 1955 and it is unbeatable for heavy sewing.

That machine is called a dome top, I have three of them, For many years that is all I had and it did not reverse, I turned the material around to sew backwards at the end of sewing , I love it They are not full size and are heavy but are real workhorses , mine has the shuttle bobbin ,Not the round one,Keep her oiled and clean of lint and she will work her heart out for you, Go for it ,

I have a 1931 Singer 99 and it sews beautifully! When I bought it
there was a 220 volt motor on it, no foot pedal or cord. Its in such good condition because of this I think.
My grand daughters love sewing with this machine, they are 7 and 9.
