I have been asked to teach a class on cyanotype fabric printing. It is one of my favorite techniques.

I had thought of just doing some flat prints of photos class members turn in, that sort of thing. The class would go home with a square of fabric to use as they want.

But, then I thought it might be fun to provide them with something that could be a finished project with a little additional work.

I have fiddled with the idea for a pattern I would like to work up to sell as a finished printed fabric, or jsut hte pattern so others could print their own.

I thought the class members only need pay for the fabric they print, and they can help me test the pattern.

I would have the patterns ready for the print, class would learn how to print, and get the pattern to make more later if they want.

The pattern would be designed so that it produces a panel of fabric, with cutting lines etc to make the finished product.

And I could get feedback as to whether the pattern works and the project is desirable, or not!

What do you think?

that sounds like fun. i would, if i am understanding, have them bring into class a photo or two that they want to use for their project. i would have the pattern for them to purchase. but that is me. don't like having to stay in the box.

I'd love to take the class as well, and I'd suggest that you're clear on the description that the students who use your pattern will be testing it. I'm not sure how I'd respond if I paid for the class then learned later that I was "doing a favor" for the instructor. Truth in advertising!
