Well, congratulations. Sometimes you have to kiss a few frogs before you get a prince. Or, sometimes you have to go through a lot of machines before you find one that has your name on it. Happy sewing.

I doubt that it needs special needles. I have several older Kenmore's and they take regular needles. I think the old Kennies are some of the best machines ever made.....fully as good as the classic Singer's.

Just wanted to let you know, the machine works pretty good. I had a little trouble getting started, because she was set on 0 but after figuring out how to set her to stitch, she did a fine job. I had a big piece of cotton fabric in her and was practicing and seeing all the zig zags she has, and for some reason, when it's set on "3", the thread under (bobbin) got all tangled up. It still looks fine on top, so I didn't know until later. I tightened the tension and it did fine. I guess that was the problem or she was just waking up. It didn't do it any other time, just for about 3 inches on "3".
She's not a speedy-super-fast machine, but that's ok, I'm not a speedy super fast sewer, so I think we'll get along just fine. I still can't get that little door closed, because it's all bent. If I close it, the thread take-up lever-thing can't go all the way up. So I taped it as closed as I can.
So the ultimate test: I repaired a split seam in a knit shirt.... and she fixed it! Lots of zigzags and a straight seam and no complaints from her!!
My only complaint: there's no heat in the sewing room, and that metal is COLD!!!!
