When we moved recently, I tossed the only sewing machine oil I had for my "aged Elna Carina". No label on it just a clear plastic bottle so now I need new oil and want to be sure I use the right stuff. Not close to a store so I am hoping I can get it online. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Any brand of sewing machine oil is fine to use. Sewing machine oil is simply a very fine grade of oil. It is widely available online from places like Amazon and eBay. I purchased a syringe for sewing machine oil on eBay as I find it to be much easier to use the oil (I fill it with sewing machine oil). Anyway, here is a link to just one brand of sewing machine oil:

Most any sewing machine oil would work although I now use Tri-Flow oil which has teflon. You can probably find in in bike shops or hardware stores, but it it is available on Amazon too:

I read somewhere that ZOOM (by Dritz was one of the better oils for today's machines. Actually, there is very little to oil on today's machines--plastic parts will degrade from oiling, and makers say not to oil at all. (but I sneak a few drops on the metal parts.) Anyway, I got my oil at Hancock's--I think I've seen it at Walmart. Very clear in a plastic bottle with long flexible spout that slides into the bottle.

Sewing machine oil is made to evaporate. If it didn't the machine parts would clog up. That's why it's necessary to oil a lot. Machine oil is clear, if it has any yellowing tint it is not good anymore. Tri-Flow has teflon and that isn't going to do anything but coat the machine parts in layers as it is added. Machine oil is inexpensive so why use anything else?

household 3in1 oil is *not* the same! It says sewing machine oil, but don't do it! ;0))

Only use sewing machine oil. It is available at most fabric, or sewing machine stores. I have even seen it at Walmart.

I have always used Singer sewing machine oil. It is easy to find and relatively inexpensive. If you can't find it at a store, check any of the Featherweight online stores --- 221 Parts, Nova Montgomery, April 1930s, Glenn Williams, David McCallum.

Oh, my, thanks for pointing out that my link is *NOT* the right stuff! I didn't take a close enough look at what came up after my search for "sewing machine oil". This was actually the first item that came up. I do think it's criminal of Singer to market household oil in such a similar way as sewing machine oil.

That oil is fine. The 3 in 1 oil is not.
