Default You know you are a quilter when....

I'm working on a quilt that has multicolor features. I only need about a 2x6 piece of fabric for each one. The only color I'm missing is a solid burnt orange. I've been through my stash and my scrap tubs... nary a piece to be found. This was a few days ago. This is where the weird thought entered my head... I do have a blouse in my closet that is the right color... should I cut that up for that piece??? Oh, my goodness... that's crazy! Especially since our quilt show is today [and tomorrow] and I can dive into the scrap fabric pool to try to find that right color!

Has anyone else been tempted to use something other than your 'proper' stash to get that piece of the right color?

I have (sacrificed) items* clothing, pillowcase, towel, placemat* to name a few sacrifices... Sometimes I think nothing is safe when I am on the search for that perfect color, texture, fiber, weight....

Sheets!! I once cut up a blue plaid sheet for a raffle quilt that had to be done NOW. LOL. My son never even missed it.

No. Never thought about cutting up clothing that I wear. Now, if it were ready for the scrap bag, that's a different story.

A friend of mine was working on a quilt late one evening when she decided she needed a particular shade of blue. Her husband came in to say good night. The pjs he had on were perfect and she grabbed her scissors and cut a hunk big enough to finish her quilt.

I haven't been tempted to cut up a piece of clothing yet, but I have worn it to be fabric shop to try to get a match. Does that count?

Hmmmmm, I might actually be tempted. The piece is 2 x 6....could be the bottom of the back of the blouse, and just tuck that blouse in from now on.

Haven't cut up any clothing but there's a piece of fabric in my stash that's going with me next week when I get the paint for a long overdue painting of our den. I'm just going to hand it to the paint mixer and say "match this".
