This takes me back to SC where I grew up. We called them May Pops. They grew wild all over the fields and were considered a pest. After they'd fruit, we'd pop them and eat the seeds. The fruit is shaped like a green egg. I think they're gorgeous when they're flowering. You don't see them now because of all the pesticides. You just can't beat God's designs. Thanks for sharing with us.

Thanks ladies, Libster we call them Maypops too. This one is native to our area, harvested seed from a native vine, but I planted the seed 2 years ago, the first year they didn't sprout at all so I thought I wouldn't get any, this year I got a couple of vines. I plan on controlling their invasive nature by using them as forage for my rabbits when they (the vines) get to big. The are in the passiflora family, not all (passiflora) will survive our winters.

Your rabbits will love them. It's sad to see so many beautiful things dying from so much pesticides. Here in NC our native blackberries are slowly disappearing. The tame blackberries just don't taste the same. I love making jam and jelly from the wild ones. Such is progress I guess.
