luvTooQuilt 10-09-2010 02:06 PM

We have 32 members participating and aprox 50 swaps... **** MEMBER SIGN-UP IS NOW CLOSED***

LuvTooQuilt is hosting…….5" I Spy charm swap,

Registration is open to the first 40 members or until 22 Oct, whichever comes first.

Each swapper will submit 40 squares of 3 (three) different Funky, child, novelty fabrics that you deem perfect for use in an I-Spy quilt..

Squares should be carefully cut from prewashed 100% cotton fabric. Keep in mind that your squares will most likely end up in a child's quilt. Select fabrics that will hold up to a lot of love, wear, tear, draggin', cuddlin', washing, and trips through the dryer. fabrics that fray easily, or that are fairly easy to see through are probably not good candidates for an I-Spy quilt.

Please be advised that squares that are not square, or those that are not the right size, will be returned unswapped.

Here’s how it works:

In your packet to me you will enclose:

3 Ziploc bags – In Each individual bag will consist of- same design - 40 count- 5" squares BUT… Each bag will have a different fabric than the other ones..

Example-
Bag 1/Fabric A: 40 squares 5"
Bag 2/Fabric B: 40 squares 5"
Bag 3/Fabric C: 40 squares 5"

*** Fabric must be washed, ironed and in ziplock bags for safe passage thru USPS

INCLUDE your screen name ON your package along with SET amounts you are doing

Example- I would like to do two sets so, written legibly with a sharpie marker or pen, my Ziplock bag will have

luvTooQuilt X2

Please remember that each stack in each set should be cut from a different fabric. Please do not send more than 3 sets***

***3 sets mean that you would send 40 from 9 different fabrics for a total of 360 charms.

Also in your package INCLUDE a return address label, an empty envelope exactly like the one you used to send, and return priority postage. Please remember that if you do not send enough return postage i will hold them until you send the difference. After 30 days, i will donate the unclaimed squares to charity. (PM me for international info)

I would like to have these in hand no later than 10/29 (so with a post mark no later than 10/23- that should give the USPS ample time to deliver them to me plus a day or two grace period.) International members need to send them to me sooner- PM for details

Please remember that any packages received after 30 Oct will be automatically returned unswapped.

I will then sort and mail out squares on Nov 1st.

Please PM me your address, board name, how many sets you're doing and aprox when you plan ship your package so I can add you to the list and send you my mailing address.

We all look forward to seeing and swapping the funkiest, oddest, cutest, child's novelty fabric you can find.. I dare you!!!!

Happy quilting everyone.

KellyK 10-09-2010 02:40 PM

How much yardage of each print would be needed to cut the squares for that? Just want to see if I can join or not, thanks!

quiltingnonie 10-09-2010 04:15 PM

So can you clarify what I will receive in return? Will it be 3 bags of 40 squares of 3 different fabrics? Or will it be 120 squares of all be all different fabrics?

sunrise450 10-09-2010 04:20 PM

1/2 yard equals 40 4" squares.
I will send 3 sets of 40 squares, each set 40 of the same 4" fabrics. Will PM you.
Phyllis

KatFish 10-09-2010 04:40 PM

The last one was so much fun. Please put me down for two sets.

Phyllis

5 inch squares

I recommend at least 7/8 yard - to allow for shrinkage and possible skewing of the fabrics when they dry.

Also, allow more if the design should be fussy cut

When all the squares are in (or whenever she wants to), the hostess will make 40 stacks. Each stack will get one each of the 120 fabrics that are sent in.

EC 10-09-2010 05:04 PM

I'm in, thanks for hostessing!

craftymainemom 10-09-2010 05:37 PM

I would like to do 2 sets. (that's 6 different fabrics :)) I love shopping for novelty fabrics.

rejenea 10-09-2010 05:42 PM

I would like to do three sets

Will pm you

You are so right! I don't know where I got 4" instead of 5".
And I checked my graph, you get 40 5" squares from 3/4th yard of fabric. I also would allow more especially if you are fussy cutting.

mbogenpohl 10-09-2010 06:27 PM

Will pm you

hi...a quick question please.....does the 40 squares of "A" material have to be the same picture? for example, if i have some really cute kid's farm material, can i cut different animals, or do they all have to be cows? thanks ....once i know this, i can decide if i can do this swap..gina sherman

Hi Gina-

Good question... No, it does not all have to be fussy cut of just the cows.. 40 squares of any of the farm animals on your cute kids farm material is fine.. It is still considered ONE fabric even if it has twenty different animals..

grumpy90650 10-09-2010 11:08 PM

thanks....i would love to join in on the swap, i have pm'd you.....

I would love to do a set.............if we don't have 40 of the same fabric can we use a different fabric to complete our 40 as long as we do not use it again in one of the other packs

This is not my "show" - but I wouldn't mind as a recipient - how would I know, anyway?

I'm going to have to be a meainie and say no- This is my very first swap and i'm going to have to be a stickler to the rules listed. Once I am no longer a newbie and decide to do this again MAYBE we could bend the rules, but for now lets try and make this as painless as possible for this newbie host pleeeeeeeeezzzeeeeeee ..

Ive had quite a few pm's asking about the ACTUAL return flat rate priority envelope i'm asking to send in your package... .I'm going to make ONE change..

DO NOT SEND ME A RETURN ENVELOPE in your package - I can get them from my usps-

HOWEVER-

FLAT RATE PRIORITY POSTAGE IS STILL REQUIRED in order to return the charms back to you. If a delivery confirmation is preferred add appropriate funds to cover that addt'l cost.

We are getting close to 20 members participating !! Whoo Hoo.. Also please remember, this is a quick turnaround swap.. Your charm swaps must be rec'd by OCT 29th - if mailed no later than October 23rd that should give ample shipping time. .

Thanks Everyone..

Good change. Thank you.

If/when purchased at the post office: the postage for a flat rate envelope is $4.90. Delivery confirmation is an additional $0.70 cents.

Would you prefer to get a check, cash (I hesitate to send cash) or postage for the return mail? I don't know if one can buy delivery confirmation ahead of time or not?

I just got back from the fabric store and have 3 yards of cute novelty fabrics. If it is okay, I will post a picture of what I got. I tried to go with gender neutral fabrics.

3 Attachment(s)
Here are the three fabrics I found. I tried to find fabrics that were different from the ones I used in the last swap. I did 7 fabrics for that one. They are heading to the washing machine and dryer. I hope to have them cut, bagged and mailed by Friday, if not sooner.

I love the idea of posting your fabrics. Now I know that at least those 3 fabrics I shouldn't buy :) Very gender neutral! They will be great
