2014 Patriotic-Red, White & Blue Block Swap-Sign ups close May 10th
Let's celebrate freedom! What speaks patriotic to you? Red, white and blue, Old Glory, fourth of July, stars, fireworks, and such.
This swap is for 12.5" unfinished (12" finished) blocks, done in Reds, White & Blues. For white backgrounds: do use white, or white-on-whites, or white prints. (Not cream or ecru, etc.) Blocks to be in sets of 4. Limit of 5 sets per swapper. Total of 20 blocks. All blocks will be swapped out, so make an extra of each design if you so choose. Each set of 4 should be a same design, but the fabrics may vary. Only 1 set of any design. This gives you opportunity to try out a few of those block patterns that you have been meaning to do! This swap is open to all skill levels. Be sure to use quality PRE-WASHED 100% cotton fabrics. (NO flannel, homespun, poly-blends, or see-through) Blocks can be made using traditional piecing, paper piecing, embroidered, appliqued, or combinations thereof. (If using applique, all pieces must be sewn down in some manner. Please do not use mono-filament thread.) Please check to make sure your blocks are 12.5" square. Not 12 3/8", etc. Please also check for any holes or tears, or inadequate seam allowances. Tidy up the back of block as well. Put a small label on each block, including your real name and board name. For Mailing: please put blocks in a large ziploc baggie along with your name and address on/in the bag. This will help protect your blocks in case your package gets damaged. Include a USPS money order or cash for $6.00 to cover return postage to you. Blocks will be sent in padded flat rate envelopes, with Delivery Confirmation. I get these envelopes free from usps.com. If proper postage is not sent, your package will wait until adequate funds are received. Please do not send your own envelopes. Sign ups are open until May 10th, 2014. Blocks need to be TO ME by May 22nd, 2014. Please send me a PM to sign up, so I don't miss you. If you know how many sets you will be sending in, that would be nice to know too! Basic swap rules may be found here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm Some block ideas may be found at: www.quilterscache.com or many other internet sites. Please ask if you need help. :) Come on and join us in the fun! |
I'm ready to play. PM sent.

Wish I had the time to join, relocating the company to larger space & all the equipment/furniture/paint/flooring/ceilings, etc. need to determine & juggling accounting & marketing simultaneously, in a large swap off QB that I had already cut before things got so hectic at work. Hope to be free in June for some fun quilting! Y'all have a great swap. Miss you already!
|
Please count me "in", too!!! This will be lots of fun  I'm not sure how many sets at this time, but there are 2 different patterns I plan to make (so, I guess that's 2 sets for now - he, he, he!). I'll PM you in a minute.
|
Let me check my patterns. I really want to play though. I miss this kind of swap.

Is embroidery acceptable?
|
marybrace- yes, embroidery is acceptable. As long as it is 12.5" square~
|
May I use red, white, and blue solid fabrics-- or must I use a print also in the block? When I use a print, may I use one that is not specifically designed patriotic, for example, a red and white polka dot-- or must it be patriotic?
|
All signed up for 5 sets. This is gonna be fun.

If I understand correctly if I sign up for this swap, I would need to make one set of 4 blocks in the patriotic colors?

A set is 4 blocks in the same pattern. But, we can do up to 5 different sets (each set is a different pattern) if we want to. These blocks make beautiful quilts. I donated a quilt made from last year's blocks for a raffle for my ECA Club. The tickets are selling really well for it too. I love this patriotic swap. |
Thanks, Libster! I think I might want to try this one.
|
I think you'll really enjoy it. It's so fun to do and we have the bestest hostess!

Here's my first set. It's "Split OhioStar".

Wow, I don't know what happened. In the above picture the fabric is NOT black. It's patriotic blue with stars on the blue. Let me try taking that picture again.

Beautiful star Libster!
|
Thank you. I finally got the right one posted.
|
Wow! Libster that's a really nice looking star!!!
|
Thank you. I was hoping it would spark enough interest from some of our other participants so that they'd post some pictures too. I love seeing what others are making. Hint, hint, Ladies!!
|
Pretty block Libster! Thanks for posting a pic! :)

What was the decision about having or not having to use Patriotic prints? I've started a really cool block using r/w/b but not Patriotic.
Decsion?? Jane |

Where's the LIKE BUTTON on the QB? :D KLT and LIBSTER - those are NICE!!!
I like R/W/B and will have to think about this swap! Nan - Indiana |
QUESTION:
If we create paper-pieced blocks, should we tear off the paper before swapping or leave the paper on the block when we send it in? I would vote LEAVE ON because the person receiving it could remove the paper after the block was stabilized with an adjoining fabric (sashing or another block) and that will give us a place to write our names. :D I will do what the hostess tells us. Thank you Nan |
quiltinghere--you can leave the papers on. Jump in and join us! :)

Here's another but I don't know the name of the pattern. If someone knows the name, please speak up!

Very nice blocks Jane!

I am interested (would do 5 sets), but not sure I understand how many blocks I would receive back in exchange. Would I receive back one block from each set submitted? Or would they be totally random but each block different? Or would I be receiving back sets? This would be my first time participating in a swap. I love Americana so this swap peaked my interest! Just trying to understand how it works....
|
You will get back the same number of blocks that you send in. Each block you get back will be in a different pattern. Join us, you will get some gorgeous blocks back. Plus, you'll get some fabrics that aren't available in your area. Swaps are so fun! And..we have a fabulous hostess!
