Mona I like the first layout better. I have fabrics picked out...just trying to decide on the border now.
|
Can't wait to see what you decide on.
|
I decided it is impolite to mail early unless asked :)

If you want to mail early, it is fine with me. It is not a problem at all. |

Confession first.... I thought women who had several machines were a nutty. Well, I am now among the nutty. My "traveling" machine is an old (over 30 years) Bernia, which I love. But it is very heavy and going to classes is an ordeal and it shouldn't be. So I went this morning and got a 13 pound machine... love it! Sorry for my previous thoughts.
Now to my row addition to Carriem.. I had material all picked out until I went to get the new machine this morning. Then I saw this purple cabbage material and just had to add it to your quilt. Sounds crazy but the colors are just so vibrant. Have faith... I have a plan! These are the materials all except the green. For some reason it was pushed out of the picture. |
Bugaroo, That is cool fabric! I really enjoy my Crown of Thorns houseplants. I've never seen them on fabric before. I'm sort of jealous of that round you are sewing! :-)
I'm still waiting for LeeAnn's center to arrive. I hope to see it soon. |
Bugaroo--that is fun! I can't wait to see it all put together. Enjoy your new machine. I use a Janome 6600...a big/heavy machine...as my primary machine. My daughter often goes sewing with me. She uses the small one while I have to drag my big one around, so I can completely relate!! She is busy with work and college now, so maybe next time I need to take a machine I can take "hers". :)
Mona--I got your border all cut out today and started sewing it together. Hopefully it turns out like it is in my head...if not at least I have plenty of time to redo it!! |
Mona... wow! I love both of those layouts.
|
Those fabrics are amazing, Bug! I love them all.
Is anyone else in Group 1 still waiting for a center to work on? Partners always need to provide tracking numbers to their partner... |
Mona, I also like the first layout of your log cabin. It just shows more color.
Givo, would you believe I got that material at Walmart back before all the craziness? Our Walmart sometimes gets in partial bolts of Waverly Fabric and I got several yards not know what I would do with it... sound familiar? Carriem, so glad you like them. I am having fun with the patterns and contrast. |

Please everyone post in this thread when you mail and when you receive, so no one is left wondering. Please do this every time you mail or receive. And after mailing, please pm the tracking # to your partner. Thank you.

Got my center today, I hope to get started this weekend.
|
Bug - love those fabrics, can't wait to see what you produce!

I've been working on my red quilt while waiting for the next round - got 8 more 6" blocks and then the FG border and I'll be ready to put it all together. Have not used the LA since we moved, and I'm thinking this will be the first quilt done in the new home! |
I purchased my first Babylock when we were full time RVers and I fell in love with quilting. 10 years later and while it was in the repair shop I got my first Bernina Recorder - and yes, heavy as all get out. But I love it. And it hums. I have a lightweight used lightweight to bring with me to classes. Two years ago DH replaced the BabyLock with another. Two days ago the footpedal didn't work. Brought it in and found out it is a common issue, under warrantee, not the foot pedal but the plug in the machine. And they are 8 weeks out for repairs. So thankful to have my Bernina humming away.
Bug - I had to take a double look at the cabbage. Those colors are so vibrant. Awesome, save some for mine!! MacyBaby - did you get you get Bugs center? And did Jaba get yours? I am working on Jaba's center and thinking I have it right!! |

I had to laugh at this, Bugaroo. I used to think that way too but I am nutty as well. I kept my first electronic Pfaff 7550 and it is about 25 years old. I take it to class because it is so much lighter than the ICON. My grand daughters love to sew on it when they come. I can use my ICON. I also have a surger and a long arm, and my pride and joy is a 1915 Singer treadle machine that my mom taught me to sew on. It once belonged to my mom's great grandmother and has been handed down. If I am sewing something that needs two different colors of thread, I simply thread each one with a color and move back and forth between machines. Each machine does something different and I do use them all. |
I haven't received a top yet, maybe in today's mail. Macybaby, the number you sent to me will not track on the USPS site so I haven't been able to track your center.
|
Jaba, I must have typed the number wrong because I can get tracking - I'll resend it. Tracking shows it's suppose to be delivered tomorrow.

I can verify that they are! When we moved in December, I had to really pair down and feel very good that I'm down to around 125 machines.

Iceblossom! The center came today!! I have a couple of ideas and I will play around to figure out which one looks the best. Thanks!
|
Mary and I have been in conversations, and the box shows as being delivered to her this afternoon. Other than me dropping that ball -- I'm no longer using a bat to beat myself up so much -- I will have to keep in mind that her address takes one more day for delivery than usual. So I will either mail out to her at her request, or the 14th.
I don't have as many machines as I once had... but during lock down both my expensive Bernina and my vintage Remington (my two favorites) had issues so I was using a really low end Brother (probably retailed for $100 or less new) for the last couple of months. I also have a vintage Pfaff, and my husband's grandmother's well used machine in a cabinet (it is a workhorse, not a beauty but part of the memories of grandma and life on the farm). I loaned my neighbor my 301 to make masks, but got that back this week. That 301 is such a nice sturdy machine, I probably would have loaned out the Brother instead, but I gave them my elastic and was using bias binding for my mask ties and wanted zig zag, so kept the Brother. Reba, I'll have to check with the hubby but I think the grandparents farm was more out towards Holland than Grand Rapids proper. |
Thanks for letting us know your got your center today, Maryb119! Hope everyone will have a center to work on soon.
|
So I got my border added to Mona's center...do I show it now or wait until closer to when it is "due"? I will wait to ship when Bugaroo is ready for it...
|
MacyBaby, all I can say about your abundance of machines is "bless your heart!"
Travelinggramma, I haven't mailed yet. I was waiting on Amazon to deliver a little lightweight notebook. It came today and I'll get it in the mail tomorrow. You ladies are a hoot with your machines. My husband wrinkled his eyebrow , for a moment, about my new machine. Then I ask how many drills and saws he has. Well, as he is a plumber, he has SO many. He likes my new machine! |

Love your addition to Mona's center, Carrie! Great colors and friendship star cornerstones.
|
carriem, I like the stars in the corners-- they look great with the '4 pointed' center. Lovely!
Bug, I often like the Waverly fabric at Walmart. :-) |
carriem, great printed fabric to complement the autumn feel!
|
Love all those fall colors your brought in - awesome.
Bug - remember to give MacyB the tracking #. |
Great job on Mona Center, Carrie.
|
Wow, I love it. Thanks Carrie
|
Thanks all...especially Mona! I was hoping it wasn't too busy for you!! :)
|
Lovely addition Carrie! You know, the internet and being able to post pictures like this is so fun instead of months of silence...
Just wanted to say about my top in case I didn't before -- my goal/hope is to get something back that looks like nothing I make! I mean, I have lots of quilts that look like "me". My first idea for a center was very different, very much more "me", and very much bigger! Too big for the group. So I decided to go for something that was more open design-wise and am figuring my cat will be smack dab in the center of my square so I get to only see what's around it anyway. When I say, go for it! feel free to do so. I think I have my actual subunits for my round just about made, last round of (2) seams to finish them just ahead. I haven't laid it out other than paper and my head and still have a couple of choices to make. Looking good so far. In computer gaming, we have to come up with short terms for emotional situations. When you are just overwhelmed by something wonderful and cute like baskets of puppies, the correct term is "Squeee" with some variation on the number of eees. Well, when I opened up my package from Reba it was definitely a squeee. And shiny! Definitely shiny. |

Carrie, love the fall addition. Everything about fall is warm and cozy and your rows fit right in. I also just sent you a PM with tracking numbers as I am headed to the post office now.
Thanks for whom ever shared that you can pay and set up USPS on line. Wonderful service. I even had a couple of boxes and envelopes (..) mailed to my home. Carrie, this is the bottom of your center. I am so pleased with the fussy cuts and over all look... hope you like them. Planning on the corners to have more of the purple cabbages! |
Bugaroo, Thanks for the update on your round. The fussy cutting is a great idea. I think this is part of what a RR is all about-- someone else adding to your center something you couldn't have added. (I agree, IceB.) How Bug bought this fabric, is cutting it, and adding it is so much fun. And it's handy-- you just sit back and watch what others do to make your quilt top for you!
|
Love your additions to Carrie's quilt, Bug! You got the colors just right, and that cactus fabric is wonderful when fussy cut. That quilt is looking gorgeous, so far!
|
I crossed names in my post.. opps.
The fix.... I mailed my center to MacyBaby not Carriem... I got the mailing correct but mixed names in my post. Sorry Mailing note. When you pick your envelope/box online at the USPS, don't depend on the post office having the envelope/box. They only have some and not all the time. I picked the padded envelope and my post office does not carry them. But the next town over does... I went there. Lesson... order the envelopes/boxes online free to have on hand. |

I knew I wanted to put Jaba's center on point - and after numerous tries I decided on a paper pieced star. I had the two florals - just enough for this - and I truly enjoyed visiting the local quilt stores until I was really happy with the light blue batik. Then I needed to get it up to 30.5" (being divisible by 3 and 6) so brought in her focus fabric which now gives the next person a clear starting point.
