NZ, My brother and I called upon Hospice on behalf of our father and we never regretted it for a moment. They are specialists in care for the individual and the family during the last days of life. They gently taught us how to care for our father, how to make balanced decisions. They encouraged us to let our father eat what he loved for example.Such a simple thing. It is always hard to be witness to the passing of another especially when it is a dear family member but hospice does make it easier, for everyone. I will agree with sewbiz to pray for your family.
|
I also agree with Hospice. As it's turned out, they have been involved with both my parents and both my In-laws. My MIL had brain cancer and once she needed more powerful pain meds, we could not keep her at home anymore. Both my parents died in their homes, their situations ( Dad had an aneurism, Mom had Parkinson's) was such that adequate care based on their wishes could be provided without them going in. Hospice really helped to know we were providing correct care for them. FIL had been in the hospital and was moved to hospice, but he never regained consciousness so moving him home was never an option.

All the stages of life we have all dealt with - from childbirth to end of life as we know it. All through the years we have needed people to lean on - to reach out to. Sometimes it is on line with you all - and sometimes with family and friends. And hospice is especially a group of people who are there to lean on. I recall when they first came to interview my aunt. They gave her choices on what she wanted. Once she said enough is enough - then they were so caring and informative of the next steps available. Was totally blown away with their organization.
We are currently in Texas. was supposed to register our new to us motorhome but dealer from AZ dropped the ball and didn't mail the title. Can't stick around so they will have to pick up the tab of having it all done! We did get to visit with a friend while here so that was good. Today we are watching the weather as we start to move east. |
Thanks for the positive news about Hospice. I have never dealt with them, but it's a huge relief to hear so much good about them! Thank you for the prayers too.

Whoo Hoo!, IrishMom, Thanks for the updated almost final list. Your list and my list agree. Only a few more days until party time!
In our conversation about hospice, I forgot to mention that not every one goes to stay at a hospice facility. My father did not. They did not have an open room for him. When a room was available it wasn't appropriate to move him. Again, hospice staff suggested we just allow him to stay in the environment he knew because it would be more comfortable for him. Bless those folks. |

Well, I am lagging a bit. The round robin is kicking my hiney. The top took 21 days to get to me so now I am a bit rushed.
My candies just went in the mail today but should be received prior to birthdays. Have a great weekend! |
Received candies from Crispy Frog today.

Thanks everyone! I opened up my candies this morning and started sorting - I need to make 35 - 16 patch, each in a different color way. I've got 29 sets figured out, and have the turquoise and green colors left to do. If I don't get enough, I'll do up a few in brown shades also.
There was an earlier challenge that I had to make 16 color way blocks, and I accidental made 17. I've had that extra one bouncing around since I figured I'd use it with this group - but now I can't find it! It's been in my way for several months and now that I want it- it's gone into hiding! My son is visiting from GA - arrived last night - I'm taking the rest of this week off and next week so I'll have lots of time to play!. DH and DS decided they needed to go shopping so I've got the house to myself for a while - expect they'll be gone 6-7 hours. Been a really long time since I've had the house to myself! |
Enjoy your quiet house for your birthday, Cathy. Maybe DH and DS will come home with a nice big cake for you!
|
You are being much more productive on your birthday than I am on mine! Enjoy!
|
Candies from Havyboys showed up today - so that is all of them!
|
Happy birthday Macybaby. Glad the candies made it on time!

MacyBaby -- I hope you have been having the best of days!!!! Happy Birthday!
Hav4Boys arrived today for me - that's all of them! I don't know if I will have time tomorrow to open. My daughter and boyfriend are coming in for her graduate school graduation!! Very exciting time for her. And then the next weekend my youngest graduates from Undergrad! We are very fortunate that both schools are having in-person graduations (limited tickets, but still graduation) This weekend will be inside but next weekend will be outside - if her undergrad school has to move it inside it will be students only. |
Yeah, Two perfect "on time" birthdays! What terrific swappers we are this month! Let's go for three!

That's awesome Irishmom, happy birthday 🎂! Woohoo!

NZQUILTER I'm very sorry to hear about your father's deteriorating condition. I hope hospice can bring him peace and for your family too. My mother in law went to hospice and passed peacefully with all of us around her. They were all very nice to us and they controlled her pain effectively to the end. I wish you all the best.

Making progress! Top finished. Just need to find a back, sandwich.... well you all know the rest. Nine hundred 2.5's are now out of my stash! Thinking no border and will pick a back from stash. Fingers crossed I have something on hand. Binding will depend on the backing. Now on to the next 2.5 for the year. Maybe, Impressionist Wreaths by Quilted Twins or one of the others I have saved on my "To Do List".

Lovely, WMUteach!
Gaijin, are you planning anything unusual for your birthday? |
Love your quilt top, WMUT. The diagonal lines of color are so pretty. Today I'm putting together my 3.5" scrappy squares that I've been amassing for years. No special pattern, but it's cute. I would like to do the Impressionist Wreath pattern too.
Gaijin, glad to see my candies made it to you! One of my cards got stuck in a sorting machine somewhere. She got it, just torn, and it was covered with tape. (You can't win...) Hope your birthday is going along splendidly, Irish Mom! |
ibex94,
I just found out that I don’t have to work because I switched weekends with another nurse for his convenience. So now maybe my hubby and I can do something fun. Now I can definitely open my envelopes on my birthday! Gaijin |
Nothing better than unexpected free time on your birthday! So... day trip to a hot spring? Dinner somewhere fabulous? A day quilting up a storm?
Thank you for your work as a nurse. This is a rough time to be a nurse. |
Do I have them all?
