This sounds lovely - I will think about it.

DBrooks 07-12-2011 10:21 AM

I just sent you a PM. I also have a question > The block instructions note that the pattern makes a 12" block. Is this the finished size?

DBrooks 07-12-2011 10:22 AM

Oops I see someone already answered the question. Thank you!!

Thusnelda 07-12-2011 09:34 PM

If I participate, what would I have to do about postage (living in Europe)?

bookworm 07-13-2011 06:10 AM

I would take it to the post office and find out how much it would cost to send it back and you can paypal me the money.

Motorcyclemad 07-13-2011 10:40 AM

Is the maple leaf the only block that qualifies for this swap or may we use other flowers portrayed on the Quilter's Cache site?

I believe that this swap is for the maple leaf only.

This is for the maple leaf only

jazs2 07-13-2011 07:08 PM

It is one stitch less the 1/4 inch. Not a stupid question.
Hope that helps

Thank you! I'll look through my stash and get back to you.

Motorcyclemad 07-14-2011 04:11 AM

Sign me up for an "Over-active, Tentative YES". I will know by the 31st if this becomes "RESOUNDING". I look forward to swapping!

bookworm 07-14-2011 06:19 AM

Motorcyclemad, I'll sign you up but next time PM me instead of just posting on the thread.

Pegsquiltparlor 07-14-2011 06:40 AM

Morning - I would like to sign up for thus swap. I have made the maple leaf quilt with a cream backbround and really like it. I am into fall colors so will try one with black.

mom-6 07-15-2011 08:07 AM

Just had what I hope is a bright idea. . .since I have smaller pieces of several coordinating fall color fabrics. . .how about doing the leaves scrappy? If I do that I will only need a small amount of each fabric. And can still make 12 all alike.

How are measuring and cutting to add the extra half inch? I just finished up the Fall Dresdan plate swap and I want to get started on this right away, so I hope someone can help.

This is the one I used and it came to be 12 1/2" block

That's ok as long as they are still all alike :)

Short an Sweet 07-15-2011 11:32 AM

I have picked out my fabrics for the leaves will make one next week and post a pic

Muse&Sew 07-16-2011 09:51 AM

Is there a way to just use thangles except for the stem?

bloomin'Iris 07-16-2011 06:15 PM

question...."doing the leaves scrappy?" does this mean that the leaf itself could have different pieces/patterns within itself, yet all 12 squares would be the same?

okay, I'm going to give this a shot, my first block swap. I've gone through my 'stash' & have no black what so ever. Any ideas of how much I need to pick up?
I'm so nervous & hope I do well for all.

I was going to say I didn't have time to figure this out for you...but...then I remember I now have EQ7 :) :)

So IF I figured it out correctly (or if the EQ7 figured it out correctly) - to make 12 - 12 1/2" UNfinished blocks

The Background needs about 1 yard
The leaf needs about 1 3/8 yard.
(the leaf and stem are same fabric in my example)

Good Luck - let us know if that yardage works for you.

Here are the amounts of fabric

How's this one?

This is nice. Makes me feel warm. I am in Florida but I remember the beautiful fall colors of Ohio. Our leaves on certain trees do change colors but not until Janurary or Febuary.

Here's a picture of my scrappy maple leaf block. The colors look kind of washed out in this picture. They are really quite bright.

Pretty!! You did a great job matching color and texture!

mom-6 07-19-2011 05:40 AM

Thanks Linda.
I rearranged the fabrics at least a dozen times before I settled on this configuration.
Would probably still be second guessing my choice but finally just had to start sewing and quit dithering! LOL!

I didn't think I would like the scrappy look, but yours look great! I am really amazed!

You have really changed my mind and now I am wondering if I should attempt a scrappy look to my leaves :0)

Wholeheart Mom 07-19-2011 01:35 PM

Deleted... double post sorry!

mom-6 07-20-2011 07:29 AM

Glad you like it! I had gotten a box of bits and pieces from one of our fellow board members and these beauties were in it. Orange is a color I like but don't seem to purchase very often. So it was perfect for this. Still have to get some more of the pebbly black background. Thought I had enough but had only figured the black for the HSTs so when I started cutting I discovered I still need some for the last 4 blocks. The other blacks I have don't really look quite right because of the type of swirls or whatever in the design.

QuilterMomma 07-20-2011 09:03 AM

Wanting to do this one, have fabric picked out, washed, and pressed. Now to be sure have time. I have not cut it up yet, working on the time factor first. Love fall colors and especially the maple leaf so will keep this in mind. Let you know when I have them at least cut up? LOL

Peg, your maple leaf quilt with the unique center blocks is sure a fun one. Thanks for sharing pics. any of we 'kids' would have fun looking at all the middles. :-)!!

fromzstore 07-22-2011 07:01 AM

pretty quilt thanks for sharing

QuilterMomma 07-22-2011 07:13 AM

Very pretty quilt. Excited to see how these blocks look put together.

Lv2sew2011 07-22-2011 09:19 AM

Great job! Peg

I finally was able to get out and go purchase my fall fabrics, but have a few other swaps that need to be done ASAP, so I'm working on them first to make sure I meet the deadline.

FQ Stash Queen 07-22-2011 07:14 PM

Love your quilt. Thanks so much for sharing it. Great inspiration.
