I am intrigued by smaller sized quilts lately. Is anyone interested in swapping doll quilts?

Here are a couple of links that inspired me:

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, leave a reply or PM me!

collettakay 04-21-2009 09:26 AM

What size are most doll quilts? I'd probably be interested in doing the swap. Can we get some more info? Do we only make 1 or do we make multiple and receive a variety back? How long would the swap be open and when would the mailing deadline be?

Chele 04-21-2009 09:52 AM

Sizes could vary. Anywhere from 12" x 12" to 24" x 24". I think one quilt per person to swap would be good for a start.

Swap partners could give color hints, likes/dislikes, or just let the quiltmaker create.

Thanks for your interest colettakay! Even if it's you and me it will be fun! But hopefully we'll have some other participants!

KGoodhand 04-21-2009 10:11 AM

I think it sounds like fun!
I would like to know more as well though!
Also I live in Canada, would that be a problem?!?
I will keep an eye and see if more details emerge!
Great idea!

I hope this covers the guidelines. I borrowed some of them (with permission of course!) from another doll quilt swap.

DOLL QUILT SWAP GUIDELINES

SIZE: from 12”x12” to 24”x24”…any size or shape in between.

MATERIALS: natural fibers/cotton, wool, linen

EMBELLISHMENTS: if you want to use them, feel free…beads, rickrack, buttons, doilies, ribbon, lace….anything or nothing at all.

CONSTRUCTION: Pieced, appliquéd, wholecloth, or yo-yos; quilted by hand or machine; and bound.

LABEL: It is recommended that you attach a label to the back of your quilt. I know, this can be a bit scary for some people though, so it will not be a requirement. A label is however a very nice addition to any handmade quilt. Whether or not you decide to label your quilt, please do include a note with your quilt with your quilting board name, real name and contact information (snail mail address and/or email address, etc. so that they can thank you).

PARTNERS: You will be paired with a partner for this swap. You will make a quilt for your partner and your partner makes one for you. Feel free to discuss color considerations, likes and dislikes, etc. between yourselves. You will also be responsible for securing delivery addresses.

DUE DATE: The deadline for all quilts to be received is June 1, 2009.

COMMUNICATION: If for any reason you cannot met the deadline or you need to drop out of this swap, please let me know as soon as you know. If you communicate any setbacks with me I can make sure things work out favorably for your partner, no hard feelings.

SIGN UP: Sign up begins today and ends Tuesday, April 28, 2009. I’ll assign partners after that date.
If you would like to sign up, send me a PM or reply to this thread. Please let me know if you are willing to send internationally as we have several members outside of the US.

Please sign me up and I'm willing to send internationally.

Ninnie 04-21-2009 10:56 AM

I might be interested, how long would we have to work on them? I have made a few small quilts and enjoy them.

PS. My avatar is 23" by 27" a little bigger than the rules would allow, but made for an antique doll bed.

BlueChicken 04-22-2009 01:55 AM

When will the partners be announced?

It takes up to 2 weeks for a parcel to reach America from here, so I'm a little behind before we even start. lol

Chele 04-22-2009 03:54 AM

Sign up for the doll quilt swap closes April 28. We have nine participants so far! :D

Chele, This sounds fun. Wonder if you will do it again late summer or in the fall? I'm on a committee planning a quilt show right now so I am interested in an exchange after July. Ellen

Chele 04-23-2009 03:33 AM

Ellen, if this swap is successful, I'll be happy to host another. I hope you can join us then! Good luck with your quilt show!

I am excited as well!! I just made my daughters little doll quilts for Easter! It was my first attempt! I think they turned out pretty good, but my daughters loved them!

PamH 04-28-2009 11:19 AM

Those are cute.

Chele 04-28-2009 12:29 PM

Adorable Easter doll quilts! I'm excited as well!

collettakay 04-29-2009 09:52 AM

I just got back from Joann's where I picked out some FQ's for the doll quilt I'm making for Chele. Do you want to see pictures or be surprised?

Ninnie 04-29-2009 10:05 AM

Oh, K, they are so adorable! Now I am really excited!

BlueChicken 04-29-2009 11:39 AM

This is going to be so cool!

I've been having a look at pictures on the net, the possibilites are endless!

Chele 04-29-2009 01:45 PM

colettakay, my family would laugh at this response, but surprise me! See, I'm getting more mature in my old age! Usually I'm the one opening Christmas presents two weeks before the holiday! I'm so excited to see what you come up with!

Good luck with wisdom teeth tomorrow.

Ninnie 05-01-2009 11:04 AM

Kendra, just finished piecing the top and back of your quilt and am really excited! I will get to start hand quilting it this week-end. It is really colorful and I hope you like it!

Ninnie

KGoodhand 05-01-2009 12:03 PM

That's funny Ninnie!! I finished the top yesterday and am working on the back tonight!!!
Great minds think alike!!!
I hope you like what I decided on!!
