APRIL – CIVIL WAR REPRODUCTION D4P swap

APRIL – CIVIL WAR REPRODUCTION DISAPPEARING FOUR PATCH swap - Sign-ups are open until I have a maximum of 25 swappers. Each month is loads of fun with a wide variety of fabrics in each swap. Sew much fun!

Welcome to our monthly D4P swap. Here’s how it works: we will all be making 8 ˝” unfinished D4P Block quilt blocks in a different theme each month. One set equals 6 D4P blocks. You may make as many as 6 sets of 6 blocks each which would be 36 D4P blocks. Wow! That’s a lot of quilt blocks. Imagine how cool that quilt will be??? I know! Right??? Please consider making each block using a different fabric(s). Use a variety of fabrics as long as you stay within the theme for the month. You could make 36 blocks each with different fabrics! Wow!!! The more variety the better. That would make a great swap, wouldn't it?

April’s theme is CIVIL WAR prints. Please use one Civil War reproduction print with one light shirting print/fabric for each block.

In case you've never made a D4P quilt block, here are the instructions:

http://sewwonderful.blogspot.com/201...o-9-patch.html

Please use 100% cotton, quilt quality fabric to make your quilt blocks. Please pay attention to the back of your quilt blocks; pressing, snipping extra threads, etc. Be sure your quilt blocks are squared up, trimmed and even.

Please PM me to sign up. Please provide:

· QB screen name
· Real name
· Number of sets you are making/sending
· Email address

After I have received all of your information I will add you to the list of swappers and PM you a message with mailing information. BE SURE to include the USPS envelope WITH POSTAGE, filled out with your mailing information, in your package to me. Set(s) of D4P quilt blocks will be due by MAY 30[SUP]TH[/SUP]. ** Please label your quilt blocks**

Mailing: please put blocks in a large plastic baggie along with your name and address on/in the bag. This will help protect your blocks in case your package is damaged. Please use a USPS Priority Mail® Padded Flat Rate Envelope (9 ˝” x 12 ˝”), buy $5.95 in POSTAGE, put postage on your return envelope and fill out your name/address etc. This will be your return envelope so be sure to put this in your package as well!

Basic swap rules may be found here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm

Forgot I had already mailed mine until I looked today. Was going to start sewing them but don't need to now. No wonder I do these things fast, told you I would forget!!The next fabric I have in line to sew is Asian, is that right?

CRO 03-30-2014 03:40 PM

Love your blocks Jaba. Hope I get some.

Thanks Cro, just glad I already had them done and sent. This quilt I'm working on is driving me nuts, not just the quilt but a whole house worth of stuff. Dining room table runner and placemats for 8, kitchen table, runners for 2 living rooms, runner for family/TV room, 2 night stands, dresser, chest of drawers and then an oversized King size quilt. Been doing the quilt this weekend and still have the borders to go. It will be 118x118...This is it so far

CRO 03-30-2014 04:25 PM

That is a beautiful quilt you are working on. What you have going would take me about 2 yrs. I don't know how you do it!!

jaba 03-30-2014 05:09 PM

It's called retired....at least from my original occupation:D

CRO 03-30-2014 06:13 PM

That would explain it. :) I'm gone 11 hrs a day during the week for my job.

jaba 03-30-2014 07:08 PM

Your time will come, something you have to look forward to. At least I did for many years.

PeginCO 03-31-2014 05:42 AM

CRO and jaba - really beautiful blocks. I wasn't going to join for April....but maybe.... It helps that the deadline is May 15. I'm a newbie and already overcommitted for April, ha! ha!

PeginCO 03-31-2014 05:44 AM

Oops! My fault - I meant May 30! That's what I get for reading mutiple posts before coffee. It's the candy swap that changed due date from April to May.

jaba 03-31-2014 05:53 AM

Good thing, you have 2 more weeks than what you thought! Maybe we'll see blocks from you???? The more the merrier, variety you know.

PeginCO 03-31-2014 06:03 AM

The other factor is how much I improve while making the patriotic D4P! My first block looked odd directionally (note to self - watch your stripes). Second block was too small. Third block, just right...but then I left for Arizona on spring break. So let's see if I can remember what I did right and make the rest of my blocks turn out like the third one. Time is the issue. Five kiddos and a hubby here needing mama, too. :)

jaba 03-31-2014 06:11 AM

That explains it! You must be very good at time management to even get to the sewing machine. Bless you, you have your hands full for sure.

PeginCO 03-31-2014 06:49 AM

You got that right, sister!

Good morning, Daisy -

Darn and double darn! Too bad you aren't able to join in but hope to see you when you're able. We'll be here!

I've already received sets from Jaba and QLG and they are wonderful. I finally figured out (duh!) that more variety is better and makes for a much better swap. ((how many months did it take me to figure that out???)) so please go for as much variety as you like as long as each block as one CW fabric and one light shirting fabric.

Bottom line - all 6 blocks per set do not have to be the same as in past D4P swaps.
Ever learning. Ever improving - - -

Quilt Lover Grandma 03-31-2014 03:33 PM

Glad you got my blocks. I just finished doing the batiks and black for July. I have them on the design wall. Because of the colors of batiks that I got, they look like dark chocolate creams. i am reminded of a big box of chocolates. I will start on the Asians next. I am holding off on the cherry chocolate ones until we definitely decide on what design we are using. I do have my fabric though. Such fun!

You're so funny! Please take a look at the Feb/Valentines thread - last pages. Has pics and explanation.

Oh, Jane! That's a new thing, to have a variety of blocks per set. It helps people who are using up stash or 'scraps'-- where they might have two 5" square charms to complete a block, but not more of the same fabric to complete a set.

Gannyrosie 04-05-2014 01:42 PM

Before I commit, have a question. I know I see shirting as fabric description on many bolts and I think I have a some, but I have collected allot of shirts (men's-100 cotton-saving to make a quilt). Which most if not all are just like new. If it's light, would it be okay to use them if I see where it coordinates with my dominant fabric?

Ditto, like this idea.

Check out www.quiltshops.com and type 'shirting faric' in the search window. You'll find lots of examples of shirting fabrics. Hancocks of Paducah is another great resource.

It would be wonderful if more ladies signed up. The blocks are so much fun to get and promise lots of good quilts.

How many do we have signed up? I am very excited for this swap!

Jane, I have one question, was going to start the pink and brown so just did 2 blocks and want to make sure they are right. Please advise when you have timeYou had said neutral and showed white so that's what I used. Please let me know. Thanks

CRO 04-16-2014 04:50 PM

Jaba love your Asian fabric!! I didn't know how big print would look so didn't use any. Now I am sad I didn't.

jaba 04-16-2014 06:29 PM

CRO just picked them purely by color choice. Didn't know it was going to be black when I bought them. Bought all the tone on tone for each print also, going to have to make more blocks to use up some fabric and just put a little spin to it. Not sure I'm happy with this pink and brown choice, just kind of looks "plain" to me, like too much white or something. Maybe because I just did the Asian.

Annaquilts 04-17-2014 03:36 AM

Wow! I am still finishing up the Patriotic one. Getting there. Is there a thread started for the Asian one? Is the solid Kona black? These blocks look really nice!

jaba 04-17-2014 05:05 AM

I don't think a brand was stated Anna, just solid black but that's what I normally use. I had ordered some Moda black to see the difference but don't think I will buy it again. Sure is a thinner weight fabric than Kona and found after doing these blocks I'd rather sew with Kona cotton. Lesson learned for me. Did the same thing with the white and don't like it as well either. Going to go to the Craftsy site today and order both colors while they have the 4 yd. cuts on sale.

Quilt Lover Grandma 04-17-2014 11:41 AM

Nice Asians! I have two more sets to make, The brown and pink confuse me also. I have the fabric but I am waiting to cut them out.
