April 2014 Pincushion & Needlecase Swap ~ sign up closes April 1st

This is a secret swap and you will not necessarily be sending to the person who will send to you. You may sign up for two items: can be either 2 pincushions OR 2 needle cases OR 1 of each. Make sure you let me know what you want to swap when you sign up.
International swappers, please join us.
All skill levels welcomed!

THEME: This month the theme with be Easter and/or pastels.

CONSTRUCTION:

1. The cushion/case does NOT have to be quilted or hand embroidered, although it can be. But it must be handmade - not purchased.
2. Use cotton or wool felt for the pincushions and stuff with appropriate filling. Use cotton or felt for the needle case, and it should have an insert of wool, felt, or Warm and Natural (this is great for needle cases).
3. Embellishments/appliqué/embroidery are welcome but not required. PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL LINE IN THE INFORMATION SHEET REGARDING THE USE OF POLY BLENDS IN THE COTTON AND FELT. If you plan on using the cushion/case as a daily use item please mention this, as polyester will dull the points of pins and needles.
4. The size and shape of the pincushion/needle case is up to the individual creating it, but should not be smaller than 3” x 3”.

SIGN UP NOW:

Sign-ups begin today and end on April 1st at 9:00pm EST. This is a firm closing time. Names will be assigned by PM beginning the morning of April 3rd and should be completed by end of the day.
Please respond to this thread with a post if you are joining the swap. Then highlight and copy the information sheet onto a new PM, fill it in and PM it to me. Please put in the subject line what you want to swap. I will acknowledge receipt of your PM.

MAILING DATE:

The deadline for mailing is Wednesday April 16th. International swap mail date is April 10th.
Participants in the March swap who did not fulfill their obligation by the time the April signup closes will not be able to participate in this swap.
Please PM me with your tracking number when you ship. You are required to have a tracking number on your package but priority mail is not required. First class with a tracking number is acceptable.
If for some reason you will not be able to fulfill your obligation, please PM me as soon as possible so that I can locate a swap angel. And speaking of swap angels, let me know if you would be willing to be an angel if needed. Thank you.
PLEASE SEND ME A PM WHEN Y0U SHIP AND WHEN YOU RECEIVE. Remember to thank your partner, either by a post, or a PM for a personal thank you. It would be nice if you report a feedback score to your SP. Pictures are encouraged, but not required. We all love seeing what everyone is receiving. If you are unable to post a picture, please make sure that you mark that on your information sheet so that your partner can take a picture before shipping it. Please understand that this board has members with different skill levels and you will not necessarily be swapping with someone at the same level. Let's love the creation we are sent. We all started somewhere and the most important thing to remember, is that our partner made it with you in mind!

EXTRAS:

Please add card or note so the recipient knows you made it. It is not necessary to send other items such as needles, pins, etc., but you can if you would like. Just make sure the pin points will not poke out during shipping and stab the postal worker. Honest – this has happened – one of the swappers mentioned it.

Yippee...I'm the first! I'm sending you a PM now.

lauriejo 03-25-2014 10:28 AM

Yippee, we are on our way! Hopefully we will see all our former swappers come back and some new ones too.

lynnie 03-25-2014 12:11 PM

Hi all, I'm in again for one pincushion this month.~~~~~~~ Hi everyone, welcome back.

nhnative 03-25-2014 02:05 PM

I'm in for at least one pincushion. I'll let you know before the deadline if it's more than that. Babysitting all day and all this week has made me tired.

lauriejo 03-25-2014 02:31 PM

LOL I can understand the tired part! And now there is more snow grrrr.

lawsonmugs 03-25-2014 03:21 PM

Hi everyone !!!! I'm in again for one of each.Hugs Mary

lauriejo 03-25-2014 04:58 PM

We are up to five swappers now. I have noticed in some of the swaps they post a running tally of the people who have signed up. I think I will start doing that so there is less chance I will miss anyone. So here is the first version of the list:
1. lynnie - pincushion
2. klaws - pincushion
3. nhnative - pincushion
4. lawsonmugs - pincushion & needlecase

lynnie 03-25-2014 06:46 PM

OOOOh, Lauriejo, I like that idea, then we know too. thanks
No snow here yet, were supposed to get about 3-4" now hopefully nada.

JuneBillie 03-25-2014 08:12 PM

All of you girls are off to a great start.

nhnative 03-26-2014 04:33 AM

I woke up this morning and looked outside and so much snow. They said we were going to get .8". I just went out to shovel at least 2 1/2". So they are wrong again. I only have to babysit until 11 today and then the other grandmother takes over for the rest of the week. I hope I can get something done. Have a great day

lauriejo 03-26-2014 05:12 AM

Well I guess this is going to be an old fashioned Ohio winter. It has been a long time, but I can remember many winters with constant snow through March. And at least a few with occasional snow flurries into May. It just isn't as much fun now as it was as a child.

cherrio 03-26-2014 07:09 AM

yes, Oh likes to drag winter out! I was married april 16, 1988 and it snowed! I wished I had bought a pretty sweater at least. even my dress coat tho warm enough spoiled the look I was going for. lol and I'm in for a pincushion. PMing you now

lawsonmugs 03-26-2014 07:12 AM

Lauriejo thanks for showing us the tally also. Like Lynnie said we like to see too. Have a great day everyone.

lynnie 03-26-2014 09:57 AM

Yeah!, no snow, a lot of wind, a lot about 35-40 mph.
wind alert for the entire day.
It's cold here about 32*
stay warm everyone.

nhnative 03-26-2014 10:40 AM

Lynnie You are lucky that you didn't get any snow. It's 23 here right now and windy.

Cherrio I just heard that this is the coldest winter in 102 years in Ohio. I used to laugh when the people here would complain about the winter. I'm not laughing this year

Laurie I'm in for 2 pincushions for April, I'll PM you
This is what I saw today in the Brecksville Reservation

lauriejo 03-26-2014 10:47 AM

Yippee a new swapper, welcome to our merry band cherrio!
Pat is that a dog or ????

nhnative 03-26-2014 11:05 AM

It's a coyote. This is the spot I see them all the time but this is the first one I've seen this winter. Since his coat is so dark I guess I can only see him when there is snow

eyes 03-26-2014 11:56 AM

I would like to join in for a pincushion and needlebook, please. Please don't expect anything out of this world like the photos I have seen in the past.

Linda Lee in Pa.

We are suppose to have many around here but I have yet to see one and I'm not sure I would know what it is if I did see one except if it was in a pack. Looks a lot like a dog to me. I do worry about it when we are working outside as we have a small survey business.

lynnie 03-26-2014 12:10 PM

cool coyote. we don't have any around here. we do have wild dogs that can be
quite mean though. it's 32* and winds are whipping. there's sand and dirt flying by like the tornado in the Wizard of Oz.

What part of Pa are you in? I'm about 1 1/2 hours from Pittsburgh. I'm in a city that seems more rural to me and I haven't seen any coyotes near me. I had to drive 22 miles to see this one. And if you are walking on the paved trails they tell you that it is their habitat and to be careful of them. Isn't that great. Just what you want to see when you are walking.

klaws 03-26-2014 12:28 PM

Yippee, another newbie to our group. Welcome!

lynnie 03-26-2014 01:35 PM

I live across from a cemetery, and we have more deer than anyone could ever want. they eat all the flowers
and have a blast knowing no one will shoot them there. they are pretty.
If I go to the beach about 15 min fromhere, they are all over. they have signs telling you not to feed them, but who reads those signs???? they are covered in ticks though. they run up to your car looking for food.
but no coyotes here.

~~~~~~~~Welcome all new comers.
lauriejo 03-26-2014 01:39 PM
Welcome to our little corner of the board eyes! Please don't worry about your skill level, all we ask is that you do the best you can. I know my skills are not up to those of some of our swappers. I make something a little simpler so that I can make sure it is as neatly done as possible.
I don't worry too much about the coyotes when I am hiking or camping, I am more concerned with the raccoons since they will undo tent zippers. And now the bears are making a comeback.
Here is our list of swappers so far:
1. lynnie - pincushion
2. klaws - pincushion
3. nhnative - two pincushions
4. lawsonmugs - pincushion & needlecase
5. cherrio - two pincushions
6. eyes - pincushion & needlecase
nhnative 03-26-2014 01:47 PM
Welcome to all the new comers.
Laurie Do you go camping around here? I was on the Ira towpath once and saw a snake and didn't go back. And the time before that it was getting dark so I started back and heard something moving in the woods and it was 2 deer. I'm not an outdoor person. I bought 2 bikes when I first came here and haven't gotten on either of them. My idea of camping is a motel and a restaurant. A friend of mine saw a bear off of Hunter Parkway last winter.
lauriejo 03-26-2014 01:56 PM
DH & DS camped at both scout camps quite frequently, and the three of us have camped at Silver Springs in Stow. Most of our family camping though has been further afield. I am not a primitive camper, we go to parks that have some sort of bathroom facility. I haven't been on a bicycle in probably 35 years. There used to be tons of raccoons at both scout camps and then one year they practically disappeared. The ranger said the coyotes got them lol.
I am 35 miles northeast of Pittsburgh in a rural setting.
I have seen a bear before on Piper Road when driving my car. And that is where the coyotes were seen. Indian Road Hill has more of a problem with them because they are even more rural with houses further apart. We have the usual animals in our back yard...up to 19 deer, woodchucks, possums, raccoons, bunnies, squirrels, outdoor cats and dogs running loose. And hawks and a young bald eagle flew by a couple of weeks ago. There's a nest down near the Kiski River.
lauriejo 03-26-2014 02:22 PM
We do see most of the same critters here, although no bald eagles and usually no more than 4-6 deer. But we are in the heart of suburbia. Also the occasional skunk, fortunately not often.
lawsonmugs 03-26-2014 03:15 PM
welcome to the newbies !!! I have seen 2 bald eagles around my farm. I once read most people will never see a bald eagle in their lifetime unless it is in captivity. I don't remember why. It's sad because they are fabulous to see and so regal looking. Makes me proud to see one knowing they represent America.I see deer and turkeys and fox almost daily here. My husband was digging in the garden a couple days ago and seen something pink in the ground. He looked closer and they were newborn rabbits. I asked if there were any eggs left unhatched. (you know easter eggs....bunnies) He didn't get it. I need to get out and get a picture of our brand new heifer calf born yesterday. We have mostly black angus crosses that are black in color.The new calf is white. Very cute. We also have a lot of skunks here. My cocker spaniel got sprayed 3 times in less than a month 2 years ago. He still has a hint of odor when he gets wet. Whewie.
lauriejo 03-26-2014 03:26 PM
Oh Mary wet dog is bad enough, add a little skunk and whewie is right!
Unfortunately cherrio had something come up and had to drop out. Hopefully she will be able to join us later in the year. So our updated list is:
1. lynnie - pincushion
2. klaws - pincushion
3. nhnative - two pincushions
4. lawsonmugs - pincushion & needlecase
5. eyes - pincushion & needlecase
In case you are wondering why you don't see my name, I am waiting to see if we have odd numbers that I need to even out.:)
klaws 03-26-2014 03:55 PM
Eyes, do you live in Westmoreland County?
lynnie 03-26-2014 04:18 PM
I haven't seen skunk here, but I know they are. that smell is unmistakable. Every once in a while, a car will hit one, PHEW!!! possums and coons are always here. I've seen bald eagles at the game farm about 3 miles from here.
~~~hi newbees. Join in the fun. JUST REMEMBER----when you think there's enough stuffing there. give it a bit more. it's always better to overstuff than to understuff. And just do your best. keep it simple, and cut all the threads. Have fun.

Yes, I live in West Leechburg...up on the hill from Leechburg. We moved here about 29 years ago.

klaws 03-26-2014 05:33 PM

I was born and raised in Trafford, Penn Township, Westmoreland County.

Scrapper 03-26-2014 07:39 PM

I'm in.......one needle case and one pincushion.....sending Laurie PM....

lauriejo 03-27-2014 05:28 AM

Welcome back Scrapper! I do hope all of our former swappers are able to join us again.

nhnative 03-27-2014 06:06 AM

I did know that there were coyotes at the Boy Scout camp but never saw any there. I go through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park everyday and I don't see as many deer as Iused to. I see more in people's yards further up near Brecksville and N. Royalton. There are eagles that even nest in downtown Akron and there are some along Akron/Peninsula Rd but I haven't seen them. I need a pair of binoculars as people stop under the bridge (not the one the Occupied Wall St tried to blow up 2 years ago) to see them. Laurie you have some fox that live in the woods near the Heather Knoll nursing home. I've had racoons in my yard that live in the sewer out front but I haven't seen them lately. I had 4 squirrels in my garage that I thought were so cute until they started doing damage. One died getting trapped between 2 cabinets, I trapped 2 and took them to the National Park and the one left is in and out and started making a nest at the beginning of winter. I took that all apart and haven't seen him since. My DS has possums in his fenced in yard and the doberman got one of them. There are hawks around here, and even the ugly turkey vultures. That's why I say I'm living in rural Ohio.

brod71 03-27-2014 07:01 AM

Lauriejo I'm in for one needle case! Thanks I will send you a PM.

I'm having a stupid moment here...if the swap is round robin how does the count effect it?
I'm not really a newbie here as I did the swaps a couple years ago with a Mariposa, maybe. I just don't log in often as I'm into the doll quilts by Kathy Tracy. I love stitching by hand. :-)
