April 2017 to June 2017 Table Runner Swap
Hi Guys,
Welcome to our ongoing Table Runner Swap! This one will run from the beginning of April to the 31st June 2017. You have until the end of June to make a table runner - the theme this time is Summer Fun. Size of Table Runner The table runner should be a minimum of 12” x 30”. You can use any technique/ any style. All fabrics used should be 100% cotton. The runner must have wadding and be quilted. Sign Up list There is no deadline so you can sign up at any time during the 3 months as this will be just an intention to participate. When you have made and are ready to mail your runner you can then sign up to the “ready to mail” list which is binding commitment. But please remember that the only list that counts is the Ready to Mail list at the end of June. Ready to Mail list An initial Ready to Mail list will be posted around the 26th June 2017. If you are not on this list you will not get an address to send to unless you contact me and get on the final listing. MIDNIGHT on the 30th June 2017 – is the deadline to get on the “Ready to Mail” list I will need: Real name Your address Whether you are willing to send international or not (Please consider this as it enables everybody to take part) Allergy info Pet and smoking information Email address As long as you have a table runner ready to mail by the deadline you can join us any time! Addresses Sent Out: I will send out the name and address of the person you should send to on the 1st or 2nd July 2017. You will have 7 days to get your table runner in the mail - NO LONGER. If you are unable to keep this commitment - please do not sign up. You will send your table runner to the quilter who's address you get. You will receive from a different quilter than the one you send to. This is not a partner swap. Please note that there are quilters of all abilities on this board and you should appreciate the table runner you receive as your sender will have worked hard to make it for you. You are welcome to send some goodies in your package if you would care to, but please don't expect anything other than the table runner. PLEASE NOTE.... You must let me know when you mail and when you receive. Also, please PM the person that sends to you when you receive to say thank you and to let them know that the table runner that they have sent you has arrived - it is only polite to do so! So come and join our fun. Hugs Caroline |
I'm in again. PM'd caroline to let her know.
peace |
I have some blocks I could put into a runner. Won't sign up till I have one made. I want to be sure I can have it finished by then. I am taking a Craftsy class by Debbie Caffney so I can change up settings and do different techniques with blocks. I want to implement them into this runner.
|
I just seen this post I will look to see if I can find a pattern and then let you know.
|
Count me in again
|
Oh Boy,Summer fun......sounds good I'll PM soon. Thanks Caroline.

I'd like to participate but I'm committed to only using fabric from stash and not sure I have any print with a summer theme. Will check back through the shelves and boxes and if I find something will sign up.
ETA: After I posted the above I realised I have a length of sunflowers on a royal blue background. The sunflowers are about 4" across, so are very showy. Do you think this would work for a summer theme? |
OK I'm in! Belfrybat those sunflowers are perfect! This swap will keep me moving forward hopefully as I am having a knee replacement earl May! I might need the incentive to keep my butt in gear & moving! lol
|
it looks so cozy around your fire ube! I can almost smell the smoke! Our snow is melting faster now, but grass not green yet. My fire pit is still somewhere under the snow!
|
Sunflowers are a perfect reflection of summer.
I am so happy spring has arrived and I can make fires to enjoy again. I love my fire pit. My DH is going to move an old wood burning stove to the edge of the woods so I can build a fire in it to cook on when we are outside. I am excited about that too. I have picked my runner pattern! Now I have to shop my stash. |
Ube your back yard is looking very inviting can I roast some marshmallow and we can have some s'mores.
Northern Sue I hope your snow melts away soon and I hope that all goes well with your Knee replacement in May. Belfrybat I think your sunflowers are very bright and beautiful. |

Here is some of the summer fun I found in my stash. It will be good for serving Margaritas on. This will be a reflection of my old barefoot hippie self.:D

Sue -- sorry to hear about your upcoming knee replacement. But from folks I've talked to, the hassle is worth it.
Perfect fabric, Ube. And I too like sitting around a fire pit. Haven't done it in years. I'll look for a pattern and sign up after I'm on my way. Learned the hard way in the wall hanging swap not to sign up too early in case life takes over. Now I'm waiting on both swaps until I'm almost done before declaring intent. |
Love you're fabric übe. summer fun..beach fishing, ocean and sandy beaches, dolphins and baby turtles hatching music and dancing on the beach...those were the days, when I was young and my kids were children.....
|
Thanks for the wishes all! I've put it off way too long, so at this point, I'm looking forward to a new knee! lol
I haven't heard whether my swap mate has received her runner yet, and I have not yet received mine. Easter weekend probably contributed to any delays, so I'm not worried. Haven't decided what "summer fun" will look like in a runner. I'm wondering though, are there any summery colours that would not be appealing to anyone? or patterns that would be a turnoff? I usually choose fabric colours and patterns, & runner ideas based on what I like, but what about you? How do you decide? |
I was thinking about that myself. I posted my first runner fabrics and was a little doubtful about how well it would be received. Not everyone likes bright, in your face color for decorating. Then I thought it would just be a bit of fun as a picnic runner or summer party runner. This theme can go in so many directions. I decided to make a few and decide closer to June.
Colors alone can represent a theme. I think of roses in June but then I think of roses all the time. I love roses. Popsicle/ ice cream/ sherbert, so pretty clear saturated pastel colors would be lovely without the actual product. Seaside colors like tumbled glass and watery green/ blues. Doesn't have to have sea shells or seagulls to say seaside. Shades of green pared with a basket weave fabric for a cool picnic without the ants. I think I have to get busy.:D |
Thanks for some great ideas to get me thinking ube. Best Wishes Sue. My sister-in-law had both knees done. 1 at a time and she was kinda worried after but soon started doing really well and as time went on she is doing great with her new knees. I think a lot of the worry is just thinking about doing it. I had open heart surgery and fretted up to a few days ahead of it. then I just calmed down and knew it needed done to be here. Now here I am 9 yrs later. Just keep the faith and do what they say. Your in my prayers too.Hugs Mary

Love your ideas übe colours reflect a mood and summer colours are bright and happy colours.even summer moonlight and starry starry nights would look good.
|
oh my goodness! what great ideas & thoughts about "summer fun"! I'm not getting anything much accomplished as I get lost in runner ideas/patterns! lol I see one - oooooh, like that! then I see another one - oooooh I like that one better! See my dilemma? :) I've hit a plateau in my BOW projects, so going to start a pineapple block quilt top this week. Just what I needed - another project! lol I seem to get more done when I'm under a mound of fabric, thread etc! Oh, dear!
|
Sue be sure to show us some pictures. I for one love seeing what everyone is doing. This thread is slow till we get close to mailing. Pictures really help.

This is last week's block from the Etoile Rouge BOW - remember 365 Challenge from last year? It is running again this year, but this one from Kathryn Kerr is once a week, instead of daily! Much easier to keep up - my fabrics are like a black marble, dark grey "stone", lighter "grey stone" and my pop of orange, that I just love!
This one is last week's block from the MODA Blockheads BOW; In addition to these, I'm doing the FMQ BOM program with Leah Day - I think I might finally be getting alittle bit better with FMQ. Found out pretty quickly that I didn't like picking out tiny bits of paper when I used freezer paper or printer paper! lol What's everyone else working on? PS. Also doing the 150 Canadian Women quilt which is 3 blocks/week but I don't have any pics on my computer to send. I'll share when I get the next 3 done! OK now it's time for everyone else to share! |
Very pretty. I started the moda bow only have 4 blocks done. I don't care for the small 6 1/2 " blocks. I love your marble stone one.
|
Me too, love the grays and black. I am doing the Moda blockheads also in fall colors. I hadn't heard of the other 2 but am going to do a search and try to find them :) I'm just trying to catch up on all the quilting I need to do to get quilts actually done, think I made to many last winter in Florida. I need to get some bundled up and take to the shelters to donate. Kind of had an idea on a runner today and started it but not to sure I like it, I'll change my mind a couple of times I'm sure....I always do!
Biggest relief and largest headache of the day.....had a meeting with our CPA, taxes are done, check wrote and on the way at least for another year. It's time to sew now :) :) |
Northern Sue, those blocks are wonderful. The giraffe star is so appropriate this week for celebrating the birth of Aprils' baby. I don't know why she became so popular but she did and having a baby giraffe to watch is fun.
|
Northern Sue love your blocks, question what does FMQ stand for?
|
Free Motion Quilting.
|
|
Ha ha, in my case it could mean "Fairly Mediocre Quilter". I just thought of that.
|
Oh ube you make me smile and LOL.

Ube, what a beautiful table runner it makes me think of summer and lemonade.
|
Thanks Armylady, I picture a milk glass pitcher and tumblers on this one to serve that lemonade in.:D
|
Ube it reminds me of lemonade and popcicles at the beach.
|
Ube that is beautiful and it shouts summer and tumblers of lemonade as armylady says

lol you guys crack me up! Was thinking of other things FMQ might stand for, and oh my, strange things came to mind! :)
Just wanted to share with you my block #4 finished today for the Leah Day FMQ Machine Quilting Block Party. I so want to learn FMQ so that I can do more of my quilting myself. I think I am getting better. Getting the chance to quilt with rulers, do some applique, and this time I used one of the quilt stitches on my sewing machine in the border (the directions call for echo shells and I absolutely hate doing those!) So I took creative license! |
Another great block Sue. Practice, practice, practice. I just can't imagine what FMQ is going on in your mind.:D
I just got interrupted by a visitor in my bedroom. I had been hearing a little noise like a light cord bumping a wall and thought the cat was under the bed side table, no such luck. I heard the fluttering wings before I could turn on the light. A beautiful Little Brown Bat was doing flybys around the room. Now this little one has the advantage over me, right? Well my batdrenalin kicked in and two minutes later she was tucked inside my sweatshirt which I threw into the air hoping to force a landing. It worked like a charm. I walked her outside, wished her well and let her fly free once more. I am officially a bat wrangler. So glad to know these little bats are making a slow comeback after the powdery nose fungus almost wiped them into extinction. peace |
Beautiful block Sue. Wonderful quilting. Ube a lot of people don't realize what great things bats can do for us. I know one thing is they eat bunches of nasty masiqtoes.I'm sure I mispelled that.lol Sorry to all the English teachers.
