August POM

~August~ Project of the Month
Sign up until July 31st
Mail by August 31st

This months project … “A zippered box pouch”

We will be making a boxy zippered pouch! Fashioned and embellished any way you choose. (Must be large enough to carry a standard size rotary cutter and other goodies)
There are no precise directions. I only ask that your finished project be something that you would be excited to receive.

If you’d like to join, please send a pm to me tlambing and include the following

Real Name
Phone #
Email address
Severe Allergies
Can you swap Internationally?

Sign ups will be open until Sunday July 31st. Names out soon after. You will have until August 31st to mail your project.

I’d really like to keep this about the project, so I am going to ask that we not send extra goodies. This will help to keep postage down as well as helping us not feel an obligation to shower our partner with gifts. If you feel you must do something extra, how about writing a poem or drawing a picture or sharing a joke or even a recipe? I bet you can think of something!
As soon as names are given, please contact your partner right away.
Please contact me asap if you are having trouble getting in contact.
Please continue to post on the thread throughout the swap. Let everyone know of your progress, post sneak peeks and encourage other swappers. It’s so much fun seeing everyones progress and sharing in our quilting friendship.

I ask that you let me know when you send your project and when you receive from your partner.

Any swapper that does not follow through with their obligation to the swap will be banned from future swaps and will receive negative (swap) feedback.

****Please make sure to read the general rules that apply to all swaps here on the quilting board****

I'm in, I made a bunch of these a few years ago as gifts, and yes, they are very cute and much appreciated by the folks who got one!
Sending my PM now!

QuilterMomma 07-25-2016 09:28 AM

Think I would like to do this one. I have recently noticed that my pouches are getting worn out and I need to make myself one. Might as well do another.

Just pop the name into google, you'll find a whole bunch of tutorials to choose from. They are really very simple and fulfilling to whip out :)

lawsonmugs 07-25-2016 01:44 PM

I'm back in again for august. Lynnie sent me one made from chocolates fabric a little while back. Sew SWEET! lol.

ljdugas31 07-25-2016 02:48 PM

I am in also.looking forward to making a zippered bag

tlambing 07-26-2016 07:26 AM

Hoping for more folks to join us this month. I know its vacation time for many, but you can fit this in! This ones a very quick little project :)

QuilterMomma 07-26-2016 02:20 PM

I watched the post, think I will try one tonight since I am procrastinating another project to see how easy it is.

QuilterMomma 07-27-2016 12:20 PM

Well, I did not get it done last night. I ended up sewing a star quilt together instead so I could clear the design wall so daughter can work on her bargello. Also, I do not have any fusible fleece. I think I am going to quilt up the sandwiches instead and see how that works. I will sew in the zipper, quilt, then finish sewing so the seams are finished and the zipper is hidden.

lawsonmugs 07-27-2016 03:38 PM

Humm... Beth that sounds tricky Hidding the zipper too. Can you show us or will it be a surprise. I don't want to spoil any fun. just curious.

QuilterMomma 07-27-2016 07:31 PM

I finished the bag in an hour and half, which included me quilting it. Love it! Will have to post ohoto tomorrow, cell phone wont upload.

I do like how it looks. Showed husband and he was impressed as well. This would be one of those scrap fabric ideas as well. I need to make several sizes I think. This size, from the youtube post earlier, this one is perfect for the rotary cutter, pins, rippers, stileto, scissors, and such.

QuilterMomma 07-28-2016 07:29 AM

Note, if you do not have fusible fleece, a scrap of batting is perfect. I cut my pieces 1" larger for sizing issue, quilted only the outside to the batting. I did not use any backing when quilting and it worked fine for me. Trimmed and then finished as instructed on the video. This way the zipper is all inside the seams.

nhnative 07-28-2016 11:54 AM

You made a beautiful bag. I love the fabric. Really nice

QuilterMomma 07-28-2016 01:37 PM

Think I have to make some more. My thought is to put a yard of fabric on the longarm, quilt it up, and subcut. Then I can have some Christmas presents ready as well or send them along with my swaps. They are easy enough to make.

ctyankee 07-28-2016 01:41 PM

That zippered bag is truly beautiful -- love those colors!

zozee 07-28-2016 05:01 PM

Gorgeous fabric on these bags! Such a handy-dandy bag. Well done.

lawsonmugs 07-29-2016 05:26 AM

Beth beautiful fabric. Good job on bag. I've made several in different sizes and love them. Yours is pretty.

QuilterMomma 07-29-2016 09:59 AM

Ah, thank you. Now to do some more. I have to do customer quilts first because they need them. Will make one for the fair to enter. That should be fun. Will have to do more intense quilting. LOL (not)
Wonder who my partner will be. Maybe just make one out of another fabric, but what color and what fabric? Hmmmm, questions. At least I know I can make them.

ljdugas31 07-30-2016 05:12 PM

Thanks for the imfo Lynnie. I have never made a bag ,this will be my first! Yikes LOL

MizMelly 07-30-2016 05:33 PM

I use fuseable fleece in my box bags, they stand up just fine. real stiff interfacing would make it to hard construct with the pattern I use. I have no exposed seams in the bags I make. I found the pattern on Craftsy a few years ago and I just love making these!! I still have two sitting around from my last Christmas gift making, so I'll take a pic of them and post it later.
