Another clue: my SP lives in a state that has a song written about it!

Grandma Peg 08-06-2012 04:01 PM

Faye, sorry to hear about your brother. So hard to go through this but you can be happy to know he is now happy and pain free (that was my comfort after my sister died last year). Thoughts and prayers for you.

Ooooooh! Montana where the elk come whistling down the plain!
The sun's so hot your lips melt off while you're waiting for the rain!
La lalalalala!!!

Well, I keep wavering in my head between OOOOOOAklahoma where the something go down the something and JayZ's Empire State of Mind and all my exes live in Texas. It's been a long day of cutting my Bella Verona quilt out and I'm pretty sure my brain (and coordination) ran away screaming about 45 minutes ago.

k9dancer 08-06-2012 04:21 PM

I'll just say you MIGHT be onto something, the two of you.

or not.

Wheeeee! That means we're splitting the package. Or K9 has two pals!
I don't know what Bella Verona is, but you'd better show us when you're done.

Elisabrat 08-06-2012 04:26 PM

It's from Wing and a Prayer. I'm going to enter it into the Montana State Fair in 2013 - and I'm going to do it 100% myself cause I just bought the brand new Pfaff P3 PowerQuilter. So I'm all sorts of excited.

ps send me those magazines you are sick of ya'all. I love thumbing them, again, and again, and when I have done it five times over.. again. Funny how you "love" a pattern, receipe this time and then look another time and low and behold there is something that catches your eye in the same mag that you were not so hot on the first round. I love it. I will be sitting outside the post office box waiting their arrival. should I tap my feet or just hum in anticipation?

skaduzy 08-06-2012 04:38 PM

Sending out to my sp tomorrow. Package all packed up and ready to go. It is going west of me and maybe a little bit north, too.

skaduzy 08-06-2012 04:41 PM

Krystyna,
When is the deadline for the patriotic blocks? (forgot :() I got one made so far but now am working on my class reunion stuff....nametags, memory board, etc. I will not be able to do any more until after the 20th of this month. I am still okay? Right?
Sue

Krystyna - Wishful thinking... What about Oregon? Besides, I was always told it's Nu Yawk.

SharonAnne 08-06-2012 05:16 PM

Faye - I'm so sad for you. Losing a family member is losing a part of yourself. Thoughts, prayers, and hugs. I know your brother will be waiting to greet you someday in a very beautiful and amazing place.

Thanks for all the nice comments about my patriotic block. It was fun to make, and I hope the gal is pleased with the end result. Can't wait to see the end result.

To the new people, you can also add things that don't cost anything like your beloved and favorite recipes, or information printed from the internet. I'm planning on sending a really nice write up about something my SP uses. If she has seen it already, fine - it only cost me the paper and ink to print it. If she hasn't, it cost about 10 cents and a little time and research. If they like to applique, you can also search the internet for free patterns (or even coloring book pages) about things they like. I have a light box and am more than happy to get this type of thing. If you have duplicates of items and don't need them, that does not count as an expenditure. Sometimes I get samples of things from different places. Last month I sent a perfume sample to my SP. If she doesn't like it, well, my feelings will remain intact if it is regifted or tossed (which I will never know anyway). Pictures of the scenery where you live is nice - I often send a photo of the Pacific Ocean where I hike and write a note on the back. Just some suggestions.

SharonAnne 08-06-2012 05:19 PM

Vanogay - Good for you to sticking to your beliefs and principals. I am a loyal friend and have done that at work lately, but there are those who judge me based on who I befriend. The perception of this person is all wrong, and I will not abandon her for the gossip mongers. Glad to hear you are one who sticks to their guns.

Simply beautiful. What colors are you considering? And you DO have a lot to be excited about. Congrats on the new Pfaff.

TheMamaHauser 08-06-2012 05:23 PM

I bought the kit from a store in KS near where I used to live because none of the LQS here (within 150 miles) carry it - so the mailed me everything all at once.

Hey I already said I might have to buy some! I just have to win the lottery first.. or get a job.. maybe when my student loan money comes in.. I think my BF will like it. He likes the other 2 perfumes I wear and that was pretty similar.

"What kind of dog is that?" she asked innocently.

starshine 08-06-2012 08:47 PM

I love Simply Living magazine, send it to me anytime, I like everything I get, one way or another. Even the fish Krystyna sent me. Yes she did. Well maybe like is a little stretching it, I ate them. It was very interesting. If your lucky she might get some for your package too. oops hope I didn't give away tmi...

"all the rest is lagniappe. " My hubby uses this phrase, he lived in New Orleans for about 6 months, I hadn't ever heard anyone else using that phrase till today. :)

All the colors are my favorites, I'm a firm believer in use it up, wear it out, reuse, reduce, recycle, waist not want not-oh wait that's not it -waste not.
So SP be as creative and unique as you want, I do love a surprise. I was even tickled with K's.

starshine 08-06-2012 08:55 PM

Here is my clue my SP is less than 1000 miles from me, and she is a regular who has been participating a long time. Her state has a vowel in the name.

k9dancer 08-06-2012 09:17 PM

Brenda21, you get  for being from Texas, but that may or may not be it. Shows you have been paying attention, though.

And starshine: Kinda jumping on the obvious here...what state doesn't have a vowel in it?

And another clue: my SP likes to ride a motorcycle.

I know what it is :) but it's not the same kind as me so she must not be my SP. *sigh*

Quick Tips:
5. Remember, the $10 is what you spend ... not the value of everything you put into the package.

great explanation!

Now I am wondering if what I planned on mailing is not enough...oh my! I don't want to disappoint my SP. This is my first time doing this..now don't know what to send!

It's simply not possible for me to stick to a $10 budget - that would barely buy you a FQ and spool of thread here, so I've had to really think about my parcels. Also, the packages have to be fairly small and/or light so the postage isn't ridiculous. Nor have I been able to make anything as I've been having a new kitchen fitted (I'm not really doing much of a sales pitch, am I? lol). However, I've put a lot of thought into them so hopefully the recipients will agree that good things come in small packages :) I'll find out soon!

Happily we have plenty of time. Depending on what program they put her in she will leave either October 26th or November 27th. She really wanted to get into Broadcast Journalism but might go into Linguistics instead. I'm not sure how this military program works, but she keeps getting tested. She's coming over to my house next week so I can work on the memory quilt from her Nana's old house dresses, so I'll be sure to get some photos of her with the quilt as it is so far.

Faye, so sorry to hear of the loss of your brother. Hugs and prayers sent your way.

Mailed my SP package yesterday morning. My SP's weather forecast calls for the high of 95 and lows in the 50's. It is also the birthplace of T?

That sounds a lot like Great Falls right now. One thing I don't miss about Wichita is 2 months of triple-digit weather. They think we might top 100 tomorrow. Might. Woo!

luvstoquilt 08-07-2012 04:16 AM

Sharon Anne...I love your block.

Kelly the quilt is lovely..can't wait to see yours.

Faye I am so sorry you lost your brother. My thoughts are with you.

Krystyna 08-07-2012 04:22 AM

Hahahaha! I just realized I put a scrub brush ($1 at ACE Hardware) into my SP's package without telling her what it was for! (fabulous for scooping up all those wayward threads on a carpeted area without jamming up your vacuum cleaner) Now she probably thinks I'm suggesting she should scrub her floors!!!
