I'm in again, just can't keep away from this! Whew! Two weeks of company, with more arriving this Sunday for a week...Then it seems we'll have a break for awhile .... don't misunderstand please, I love company but it is so very nice when we can get back to the routine of our day-to-day once house guests leave.

Thanks again Lori for all you do making this swap so much fun.

Vanogay 07-25-2012 12:20 PM

Sent my PM to Lori, but have question - how do I go back and see what exactly I typed? I don't know if I answered Lori's questions about the allergens fully enough - I have my written copy - back last month or so, I printed off the form and wrote my answers that I copy into the computer when I fill out, but I generally add something that isn't on the written sheet. In short, how can I see my sent mail? And everyone, no matter what you send me, I'm gonna love it becaue that box was fixed with me in mind!!! I'd love home baked stuff, stuff from Scotland, I'm real flexible.........there isn't a box I've seen here that I wouldn't love to receive.

jaba 07-25-2012 12:41 PM

Go to the top of this page where is says settings, meaning your settings, on that page on the left you'll see messages and sent items. The info you sent should be in the sent items box.

Thanks Jaba, I had tried that, but guess I wasn't reading or seeing or looking - I didn't even see the e-mail I had sent. I just checked it out and guess it's okay. I wanted to make sure I had put stuff about allergies and such to make it easier on Lori - as if pairing this eclectic group of ladies can be easy, right?;)

annt59 07-26-2012 05:22 AM

I am in for 2 for August. Sending ifo.

sweetwaterquilter 07-27-2012 07:58 AM

I'm in for this month, sent info to Lori yesterday. I've been knid of MIA for the past few weeks, trying to catch up with everybody. A lot going on, going to have to start catching up.

Lori Peercy 07-27-2012 09:21 AM

To all the new people, be sure to follow along when you can and read the fun posts as hints are given as to where the packages are going and see the pictures of what is received. It is not a requirement that you post a picture or that you post on the thread, but you will miss out on some fun if you don't follow along as time permits! Just remember to send the 3 required private messages and you will be fine, just have FUN! We are up to 75 signed up now. Lori you swap hostess

reeskylr 07-27-2012 11:29 AM

I'm going to play around a bit more dying some fabric. Hmm...if my SP likes that kinda thing, she or he just may get some of it. HAHA!! Beware...this is NEWBIE stuff. :)

Well, I for one, wouldn't mind getting some special dyed fabric. I'd wash it in Retayne first and then use it in the first project I could - and show it proudly that my SP had made it for me. Guess that's another item I'll have to put in my next questionaire that I wouldn't mind receiving homemade/hand dyed things.

Yes! Do be sure to follow along new people!
We love hints and pix if you can. Makes it so much fun.

I am getting ready.
Decisions decisions!

Shall I use a squishy?

You really can pack an awful lot into them if you are careful for "only" $4.95!
I once was able to squeeze a tremendous amount of fabric into one by using my Food Saver! It was like a fabric brick.

No, silly! I didn't send my pal a fish.

Or should I use a medium flat rate box?

More costly to ship, but I can can more into it.
Especially if I have to use bubble wrap for some of it ...

Always fun to pop. If you're not saving it.

Oooooh! I wonder if my pal will
(a) Love bubble wrap
(b) Like homemade creations
? ? ? ?
Maybe I'll make her a new bubble wrap pin cushion!

Or perhaps she would like a stylish new hat

If only I had some lavender bubble wrap.

And don't get me started on how much tape to use!
Now that the post office doesn't give away that colorful priority tape I have to buy rolls of clear tape from Staples.
I wonder how many inches I will have to use.
No worries. I'll measure and will let you know.

Using clear tape is OK because the priority tape is no good for putting on labels. Tends to block the address right out.

Sometimes the heat gets to you.

mdall 07-27-2012 02:17 PM

Krystyna, youre a nut.LOL Never thought of the food saver for packing fabrics. Thanks for the idea will def. try it. You know that family dollar and a couple of other places are now selling decorative packing tape, was eyeballing some the other day. And who wouldnt love a bublle wrap pincushion, would def. make putting your pins away a creative effort.LOL

mdall 07-27-2012 02:18 PM

Count me in, thought I would miss this one. Computer has been down and I was getting worried about the part getting here on time. Sending PM in a few.

Nancy in Louisiana 07-27-2012 05:59 PM

Ooooo. And don't forget you can always reverse the hose on your high powered shop vac to suck out all the air. Just don't forget to use a lot of tape to prevent possible explosions. Postal service frowns on that happening

Heehee, cool beans Vanogay:)

Krystyna: You are so silly -- btw, I didn't think of squishing fabric in a food saver. hahaha!

Quilty-Louise 07-27-2012 06:46 PM

LOL K you REALLY need to go take a dip in the sea to cool off
your getting a little (tongue in cheek here,,ummm wacky?).

But we love you anyways.

To all those who are NEW to the secret pal swaps, you MUST
be very very very careful there are several who will TRY to get
you to give them the name of your sp. DON'T fall for their traps.

Yeah yeah yeah I know I am a spoil sport for warning the newbie's
but somebody needs to protect them.

Now I have a side line question to ask you all.

What if any magazine subscriptions do you have? Are any of you
members of the QCA (Quilter' Club of America) or AQS (American
Quilter's Society)?

I received 3 of my subscription magazines in the mail yesterday
American Quilter, Quiltmaker, and McCall's Quilting.

That got me to thinking about just how many magazines do I have
subscriptions to anyways. So tonight I sat down to TRY and figure
that out. I am shocked (or amazed?) to say that I have enough that
I needed to create a spreadsheet to keep track of them along with
my login/password info and exp. dates.

All of these subscriptions was ordered/paid back in the days when
I was work 1 full time job and 4 part time jobs (one day a week).
When I had $300+ per month to spend on my "hobby" the only
subscriptions I will TRY to keep after these all expire are the QCA
and Quilter's World digital (because I can download these and save
to my computer).

I never realized just how horrible I am to "think" I needed all
of these. But you know what they say about hindsight.

Thinking about pulling the Quilter's World magazine out and start
sending them to my sp's IF they would want them. I have about
5-6 years worth.

Off Topic: Olympic opening ceremony were AA Amazing and Awesome.

Now back on topic, Hand dyed fabric sounds great. What a unique item. I'm game to be a guinea pig for your newbie hand dying effort.
It's great to get a magazine in the sp package. Newbie alert be sure to say yes to the question about receiving gently used items so Louise knows you would like one too.

No, silly! I didn't send my pal a fish.

Krystyna you know you did, not this big but it was a fish.

Nexxus831 07-27-2012 10:34 PM

I am in for this month. Should be fun and what size foodsaver do you think works the best I had one at one time. I think honestly it was a knock off model and I didn't like how it worked. It seemed like it never sealed properly but with the costs of everything I thought about getting another one to buy big packs and freeze to save.

catpawski 07-28-2012 04:18 AM

Lucky me.............I in for another month........................

quiltnut4ever 07-28-2012 04:29 AM

Krystyna you're too much! I laughed at the bubble pincushion, what a great idea! Just hear it pop everytime you put a pin in it! Hilarious! At work this morning so I don't have much time here and the weather is already spiking hot! Everyone have a great Saturday!

mizkyp 07-28-2012 05:03 AM

Hand dyed fabric...I would love some
Old copies of quilting magazines...I would love some
Jam and Honey...count me in
Happy Quilting!!

Lori Peercy 07-28-2012 06:50 AM

I am in for the magazines, I have about 5 mags that people have sent to me in swaps. Not to proud to say that I can not afford to buy them. I looked through a couple at the grocery store yesterday and at 6-10 dollars each no way on disability check can I can afford so I would take any!!!!
Hand dyed fabric is SO pretty count me in there too! Heck just send it all to me lol!!! Now I sound like a certain someone we all know.......

Lori Peercy 07-28-2012 06:52 AM

We have 88 signed up now

TheMamaHauser 07-28-2012 07:28 AM

Off topic (sorry): We have been talking about dropping the fortune it costs to get one of the nice Food Savers (by nice, of course, I mean expensive because a huge price tag totally = quality!). Do you find yourself using it a lot? Was it worth the investment? Do you reuse your bags? How do you clean them? Dishwasher? (I don't do hand-washing).

Louise, I get 4 or 5 monthly mags between quilting & cross stitch. I would estimate that 85% of what I see doesn't even cause a blip on my "I want to do that!" radar. But the ones that do, I scan into a pdf. That way I don't feel bad about culling out my magazine library when the whim hits me. I've already got whatever I wanted from it; BUT I do usually look through one more time to make sure I haven't missed anything before I send them on to a new home.

If you don't have the actual Adobe program (NOT the free reader that you can download) all you do is scan the file as an image, embed it into a Microsoft Word doc and then under "save as" choose "pdf". It's really pretty handy and pdf's are a more compact & stable document format.

Kelly,

I have the FULL BLOWN Creative Suite 5.5 which I purchased
last year when I took a class for photoshop, illustrator, InDesign
so yes I have the Acrobat Adobe PRO.

Someday I hope to scan the pages from my magazines that interest
me the most, but there are 6 years worth of magazines well OVER
250 total so that would be LOTS of work to do the scanning.

I HOPE to get some of the QW magazines ready to go into my August
sp box. So someone needs to be on the look out (providing they like
magazines).

I'm in again and suspect my parcel will indeed be squishy.
I just wanted to mention that our Post Office workers are brutal with parcels. My July SP parcel had a hole in it, but luckily I don't think anything was lost. It may be an idea to pop things in a plastic zip-loc before putting in the mailing envelope. That way if they do manage to eviscerate it, your lovely gift will arrive in one piece.

SLHughes 07-28-2012 01:11 PM

I also love magazines, fabric, you name it I love it!!! Glad to be back in the swap again this month!!!

TOOMANYUFO'S 07-28-2012 01:26 PM

I guess I'll play again this month. DD and I got 3rd place ribbons for quilts we entered in the State quilt show. I'll pm Lori with my info

crafty grammie 07-28-2012 03:49 PM

Ill be glad to have some Quilting Magazines, I only have a couple that were sent to me in my SP boxes, I don't have any subscriptions. Crafty Grammie

SLHughes 07-28-2012 03:49 PM

Congrats on the 3rd place ribbons Toomanyufo's!!!

Anastasia 07-28-2012 04:12 PM

1. I would love magazines, I currently have exactly zero. Same with books, I have exactly 1, thanks to my previous swap partners :)
2. Fabric, yes please. Any and all of it, hand dyed, undyed, whatever. GIVE IT TO MEEEEEEE
3. I have a food saver, thank you for the suggestion. I use it often enough to warrant it's purchase, but I have a ton of rolls of the bags so i have never tried to re-use them. I probably would only reuse them if I used dried goods or fabric or something not greasy or excessively smelly or whatever. However, I was fortunate that a prior business partner purchased said food saver and box of bag rolls for me for a birthday gift.. YIPPEEE.
4. I love bubble wrap and that pin cushion would be a heck of a lot of fun.
5. I love baked, canned, homemade goods of any kind.

This month it was extremely hard for me to think of the "One thing you want the most".. What DON'T I want?! haha. I want everryyttthiinngg. I need everythiinngg. But what one thing? Aah. I found something I guess.

I'm the type of person that gives treats for the critters of the family. And I was glad my last partner gave my boy doggy some treats. He's been recovering from a herniated disk the last 2 weeks and he's been needing those treats. The baggie is gone, but even the crazy kitten has been eating them. Haha. The poor dog gets so mad because he's on kennel rest and he can see her go steal them from the bag. He's about 95% back to normal. My poor boy.

Anyways. Back to school work. Blah. I have 5 hrs to edit and turn in a research paper, I guess I can play on here for a few more hours :D

Anastasia - You are a real hoot. What are you studying?

Krystyna - Great idea of using a food saver. I used to have 2, but alas I gave them away and they were still virgins. That will teach me to use my imagination better. Love the bubble wrap pin cushion, too.

Quilty-Louise - I am too cheap to buy subscriptions to magazines, although I used to do so. I just don't have time to read so many now that I am employed again. So, I just buy the individual issues I want, or I go to the library and look through theirs for patterns I want. Most often, though, I get free patterns off the internet. I love Craftsy.com.

Reeskylr - I would love hand dyed fabric, and I would also love instructions on how to do it myself. Hint - if you get me this time!!!

Toomanyufos - I'm sure we'd all love to see photos of your and DD's winning quilts. Congratulations!!!

Jaba - Good to see you again this month. I have made more of the you-know-whats. Hoping to sell some at LQS. Time will tell.

Fayzer - I don't know who looks more excited - your avatar, or the lady in the picture you attached.

Can't wait to get my August SP. It's so much fun to see what people like and want..

I'm in school working towards a Medical Laboratory Technician degree. This is just a basic composition class. It's my 3rd class I've taken with lots of writing. UGH. I got one more of these types to go next set of classes. I'm so sick of them. This class, I haven't even read one word of any of the chapters assigned. I'm currently sitting at 95% for the class.

Since I posted that post, I've added one paragraph, and 2 or 3 random sentences to this paper. And a reference listing. I'm getting soooooooo much done.. not. While I was sitting in the insanely long drive through waiting for some sustenance to fuel my brain, I had an epiphany of an excuse for my procrastinating style. Since I'm such a perfectionist, I have decided that it's better for me to procrastinate because then I don't have time to nitpick it to death and scrap it altogether in frustration after butchering it with nitpicking. So then I only have to deal with the anxiety AFTER it's submitted, rather than on both sides. Yay for excuses :D hahah. That's my story and I'm stickin to it.

Also.. future secret swap partner.. I may or may not have had too much fun in walmart's school supply aisle this week.. soo.. uh.. I hope you like office supplies as much as I do :)
