I've made another block for my Azaleas group. Welcome to all of our new Boomers and a warm "Hello" to all of our regular Boomers. Block making is a very welcome distraction to the ice outside. Now, if we just don't lose power.

Fabric Chicken Wire on White
I would really like chicken blocks, either a silly pattern, a regular pattern, a great chicken fabric, fussy cut any style.
Please no pink, any color neon, solid fabrics or other white besides the chicken wire white.
Have fun! Thank you.

Darling heart and star block! Libster, Are you still getting snow? It’s supposed to stop here in a couple of hours. We’ve gotten over a foot by the acrylic quilt square measure. :)

We got a trace of snow before it all turned to sleet. Late this afternoon it changed to freezing rain and started coating the trees. Thank heavens we haven't lost power (yet). Expecting about an hour or two of snow before it all moves out tonight.
It's getting colder by the hour here. Everything is pretty well cancelled for tomorrow and some places have already cancelled for Tuesday too.
I made a pot of chicken soup and cut and sewed blocks today. It's been a "flannel gown, thick robe and cabin socks" kind of day for me. I was definitely not stylish, but I was comfortable and warm! Might do it again tomorrow! Stay safe and warm, Everybody!

We’re still getting a bit of snow but it’s getting much colder here too. Tomorrow is the day I’m concerned about since high winds are forecast. Icy and windy equals power outages. I spent the day alternately shoveling snow and piecing blocks I made last year into larger blocks. I’m making a small version of Bonnie Hunter’s “Shattered” pattern. I want to get them made into a flimsy and turn it into a wall hanging for the sewing room. After that, Boom blocks from years ago!

Janice McC 01-16-2022 05:19 PM

FYI, I’ve gotten Libster’s F8s and several other packages are on the way. Woo hoo!

This is the fabric for the 2 month. Just loved the movement and primary colors. I can see anything added to do with flying - airplanes, balloons, jets, rockets, etc. Have fun.
Love the idea of wall hangings for your new room Janice.

Hi, I found my group!

Well our snow has nearly all melted. It got warmer today and melted it away. Easy come, easy go. The rest of the week is supposed to be too warm for any more snow.

This is the fabric I’m sending for this group. Colors and requests will be included.

Libster 01-16-2022 07:44 PM

Well, I just saw our weather forecast for the coming week. Lucky us, supposed to be a chance for more snow Friday and Sunday. I am over it! Where's my hot chocolate???
Loving these fabrics shown. Now, to start searching for patterns to match these beauties.

sewbizgirl 01-17-2022 11:24 AM

I'm over it too, Lib! If you are getting more snow, then Janice will too. Hope that doesn't impair our packages getting to her. I was going to mail tomorrow since today's a mail holiday.

Janice McC 01-17-2022 01:15 PM

SBG, no more snow scheduled for us until maybe Friday. 40 percent chance as of today. Road was just plowed but the main roads are still icy so we’re staying put. Tomorrow may not make it above freezing so I don’ t know whether we’ll see much change until Wednesday. If you want to mail, go ahead. I expect we’ll be fine in a couple of days.

Been cooking, napping and sewing today. Rough day. Lol.

Macybaby 01-17-2022 04:56 PM

My package went in the mail today - tracking info sent via email. Am looking forward to playing with all the fun fabric!

sewbizgirl 01-17-2022 11:42 PM

Janice your scrappy strip quilt turned out really great!

terriamn 01-18-2022 05:58 AM

Janice love your scrappy quilt!

i am usually one of the first to mail packages but will probably be one of the last this time. Having company and being the entertainment director has kept me hopping. We spent yesterday in Mexico. Today we are going to the Pulga. My fabric is washed but need to iron, cut and bag it yet.

No snow here but it has been very chilly for south Texas. Everyone stay safe and warm

Woohoo Libster . Way to go! Another pretty block. How big a quilt are you planning for?

Macybaby 01-18-2022 09:03 AM

Libster, those are really nice, I love the colors!

sewbizgirl 01-18-2022 12:04 PM

Another nice block, Libster!

I'm planning to make both the Azalea and the Begonia quilt with 30 blocks. I'll do them using Sewbiz's tute. I love making them that way. Since I don't have access to my brother's longarm since he passed, I can still finish them myself. Every time I finish a quilt now, I say a little "Thank You" to Sewbiz for sharing with us.
Between Janice's endless work on our behalf and Sewbiz's sharing her tutes with us, we are one lucky group of ladies! Just a couple of reasons why I love my Boom group so much. That's what makes us a "family"!

travelinggramma 01-18-2022 12:25 PM

And thankfully Janice will have all your blocks in one spot so we don't duplicate patterns!

sewbizgirl 01-18-2022 01:26 PM

Oh thank you, Libster! I am so happy you are enjoying the QAYG lessons I posted! Your quilts always turn out lovely.

I have a sit down longarm now, but I still use the QAYG methods every once in a while because they are fun and I can use up my batting scraps and small cuts!

I mailed my f8s today!!

Janice McC 01-18-2022 01:36 PM

Afternoon Azaleas! Libster, I’ll grab your latest block and put it in the gallery tomorrow.

I’m still cooking, reading, napping and quilting, not necessarily in that order though. I actually cooked dinner a bit too early so I’ve got it cooling in the snow outside in a big pot. Lol. I knew the snow would be useful - so much more than just pretty to look at. Our road was plowed yesterday but portions of it are still snowy and very icy, esp in the shade of which there is plenty. Our pup needs surgery on Thursday, 4th round of mast cell cancer, so we’re really hoping we can get out by then.

That’s it for me. Back to reading. I am enjoying being stuck with no place to go.

I don't mind getting block duplications since only the focus fabric I sent will be used in each block. Different shades of a color and the placement makes blocks look so different. Most of them, you'd really have to look hard to realize that they're the same pattern.

I am anxious to start a block with my fabric but I refuse to until I have the flimsy I’m working on done. 350+ triangles. I figure I have sewn at least 500 seams. They are isosceles triangles so one side is shorter, not always detectable if I have rotated it 1/3 of a turn. Grrrrrr. But it is starting to look like something. But I see one boo boo. 503 seams.

I mailed my fabric today. Janice should have it on Monday.

sewbizgirl 01-19-2022 02:22 PM

That is an amazing piece of work, GramE! I'd go nuts with anything so difficult.

terriamn 01-19-2022 02:31 PM

Wow gramE, that is so interesting

Janice McC 01-19-2022 02:39 PM

GramE, more power to you. That’s amazing!

Libster 01-19-2022 03:47 PM

GramE- I bow to a master quilter! I would probably faint before I would even attempt something that complex.

GramE 01-19-2022 04:21 PM

Libster, I didn’t know it was 350+ triangles until I bought the pattern. I have made the Labyrinth quilt and it was actually pretty quick at putting together. So another grandson going to be a senior and when I saw this, I said, yep, that’s it. Then I found the name and the pattern and it was in my mailbox. The backside will be a Purdue Pete panel and a few more triangles. They are all over because it took about 8 layouts to get the shading right.

I’m chomping at the bit for some romantic, feminist florals. I love the colors I’ve chosen. But life keeps happening and getting in my way!

GramE 01-20-2022 03:49 AM

Janice, I Love your wall hanging. Sounds like a good idea. I seem to start Bonnie’s mysteries but I quickly lose interest when we get to the flying geese.

Janice McC 01-20-2022 04:16 AM

GramE, I love watching BH’s mysteries unfold. I almost jumped in on the current one at the beginning but decided to work on existing unfinished projects. Those hourglass blocks would have been the end of me but I love how they turned out. The wall hanging is now about half way done. Will post when complete.

Am off to deliver my pup to the vet for surgery. Roads are relatively safe to drive now, thank goodness.

Janice McC 01-20-2022 04:40 AM

Reminder that F8s are due a week from today so please ship soon if you haven’t yet done so. Thank you!

To be honest, it is very structured. The issue is selecting fabrics that highlight the shadowing properly. I rehearsed about 5 for the third color. Hubby and I can’t believe how it looks now as opposed to the first layout. Wrong colors wash out even those little black triangles, which are the key to success. As witnessed by the one wrong one I have to reorient. Lots can go wrong from the wall to the machine. Focusing on the direction as you take them down is crucial. First three rows were a very steep learning curve. This will be one of those I can believe I did when it’s done. Like the Labyrinth.

Thank you, Sewbiz.

Janice McC 01-20-2022 08:24 AM

Packages of F8s are rolling in with more on the way. Woo hoo! I haven’t opened any yet but will do so this weekend and get a start on the sorting.
