Birthday Swap 2020/2021

Hello everyone...........

2.5 Candy Birthday swap is now open
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Jq...oys7OZOmzQRrdQ for sign ups and will remain open until we get 35 people to join or February 19th.

Hello and welcome to the 2.5" Candy Birthday Swap. Candy squares are 2.5" 100% cotton squares that you would be happy to put in your own quilt. Please do not resend any previously recieved squares from any other swap.

This is how this swap will work:

1. Very Important this is a year long commitment.https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/i_...wUrKLkzH7nLcIs

2. PM me your name, address, Email, phone number and your birthday (month and day) https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/t8...eBHgsIEPbcGYg2
*** new this year please also send the same info to: Janice McC (co-host)

Newbies (new to this swap) you must get a recommendation from a past hostess or from Anyone that was in a previous birthday swap. Absolutely No Flakers here!!! You must have swapped with or know the person giving the recommendation.

3. While you are waiting for the swap to start get your packages of 50 unique (All different) 2.5" candy squares ready to be mailed. I will show you how the best way is to package them.

4. Starting for March (on feb 20) I will send everyone a list of who is celebrating a birthday that month so you can send out their "candy present". I will send out the list on the 20th of each month. You should have your envelopes ready when I send these addresses out.

5. Birthday person please keep track of who you received your candy from, please let me know if you have not received a package from someone. Please post the name on the board of Everyone that has sent you a package on our thread as they come in.

6. I will have contests again this year but they will be randomly throughout the year. Feel free to play as often as you want the only rule is: You must be a swapper in good standing to win. Which means Every package that has been sent by you has been received on time. I keep track when every package is received....this is why it is very important for the Birthday receiver to post received packages in a timely manner.

7. Birthday Recipient, please give positive feedback to everyone who you receive from on time. Your package must be on time to get positive feedback. Anyone over 10 days late will get Negative feedback. Right now there is no feedback on the board so for now this is changed.

8. Sit back and wait for your birthday then go to your mailbox and enjoy little packages all month long! <3

9. Please post on the thread when you have mailed your birthday package and of course wish them a Happy Birthday.

10. More than 3 "Late" packages will disqualify any one to participate in future swaps.

I am going to limit this to the first 35 people and only addresses in the USA (for postage sake Sorry).

The general swap rules apply: https://www.quiltingboard.com/member-swaps-round-row-robins-f11/rules-swaps-similar-activities-updated-8-december-2010-a-t20154.html

Any questions please feel free to post them in this thread...because someone else probably has the same ones!

This is our eighth year for this swap .....the first, second and third year went well and many friends were made. Fourth year ...everyone’s packages were on time… Fifth and sixth year almost all were on time!... seventh a few late ones but we came in strong at the end. I expect to have everyone one on time this year!!!!

Looking forward to another year of fun, friends and of course cute little candy squares!!!

Is anyone willing to sponsor me? I have been looking forward to participating since I joined the board! I've done several monthly secret pal swaps and a postcard swap... Thanks!!

WendyMcD 01-29-2020 07:45 AM

Whooop there she is! I'm so stinking excited! I was all down and depressed. Then I came here and here you are. I've been stalking you all since the day I joined WWQP. And your finally open. I can't wait. Since I'm a newbie I completed a mug rug swap and have been waiting for the wall hanging swap to need my hanging. I made it a month or so ago but it's still sitting here. Since I can't do those I've asked the first friend I made here for my referral. Now I'm going to print off the rules and see what lovelies I have for ya'll. I'm so stinking excited, I wish I could run off the energy. Alas, age and infirmity stop me. Gotta get this out some way. Oh I know... quilting! Hahhahaha! Oh me. So happy to finally be part of the group. Thanks for hosting this Barbara.

LAF, you could try asking the host of a previous swap to give you a recommendation. A quick pm to that person may help.

Id be willing to sponsor you LAF. I know Hav4boys I’d still down from her surgery so if my sponsorship is enough, I’m willing. I was the recipient of LAF’s January Secret pal package.

LAF2019 01-29-2020 07:07 PM

Thanks for the endorsement, Pamela! I will wait to hear if that is sufficient. :-)

Macybaby 01-30-2020 05:18 AM

Welcome to the returnees and the new swappers! I'm hoping we get a full house.

Last year was my first year, and I was another that was waiting impatiently for the sign-up to open! I was worried I'd miss it and it would fill up before I got a chance.

NZquilter 01-30-2020 01:19 PM

I would love to join in. I'm sure I have enough of 50 different fabrics! Janice, I know you are one of the hostesses, but may you recommend me? :D

Janice McC 01-31-2020 04:36 AM

NZQ, of course I’ll recommend you. Send in your info and we’ll add you to the swap. :)

Thank you! Emails have been sent!

WMUTeach 01-31-2020 05:38 PM

I was locked myself away in my sewing room this morning while the carpet was being cleaned in my condo. So I took that time as an opportunity to sort my stash and layout my fabric choices for this 2020/2021 Birthday Swap. Anxious to get cutting, but will wait to see if we need the full 35 little packages.

Janice McC 02-01-2020 07:48 AM

Good Saturday morning!

I had an early start on my candies. I managed to make 30 sets and can put together a few more if needed. I’m glad to have gotten them out of the way so I can co-host and simply enjoy the swap.

Has anyone else started cutting?

travelinggramma 02-01-2020 10:43 AM

And the fun begins. I have ironed and cut and prepared 32 cards. Double checked with USPS and got my .70 cent stamps. All set and feeling sooo good!
Cuppy - Will miss seeing your monthly imput - please post any patterns up come across.
NZ - glad to see someone new on the board that I have swapped with. You will be amazed come your birthday
WendyMcD - oh you will fit right in to this group
and Laff - with that name it will be fun too
Thank you again Barbara and Janice (and we need updated picture of that darling GD)

LAF2019 02-01-2020 01:44 PM

I've got about half of the needed squares cut. Looking forward to it!

Hi all,
Sent PMs to Barb & Janice with requested info. Have selected 55 new fabrics for this swap while shop hopping across TX on a USAF outing with hubby. Even found a few cute fussy cuts (2.5" squares with a centered pic or stripes on point). Looking forward to doing a project with you during the year to utilize the wonderful charms/candy/squares we've gathered in this & other swaps. So happy to be back in this swap after an absence of a whole year, missed y'all!!!
hugs,
dj

Barb, thanks!

NZquilter 02-03-2020 11:59 AM

I plan to start cutting this afternoon. But I have a quick question, if you don't mind? I have some leftover jelly roll strips that have the pinked edges. Is it okay if I cut them down to 2.5" squares to swap out?

I sure hope so NZ, because I have the remains :o or should I say remnants of two jelly rolls in my swap plan. I have gotten them before in my packages in previous years. We just need to make sure that they are a true 2.5".

Boop56 02-03-2020 07:53 PM

I have so much fabric. I just gave away 8 trash bags. Ughhhh. I would love just to cut up a bunch of squares and send them to whoever wants them. You can private message ,e your address. Havea fun year ladies.

wesing 02-03-2020 09:21 PM

Hello ladies. Barbara tells me you’ve never had a man in the swap, but 2020 is a new year. Hope I don’t disrupt you too much. I started cutting tonight and have about half my candies cut. I watched the 2019 swap and am looking forward to participating this year.

Darren

djmat 02-03-2020 09:50 PM

Darren, welcome to the swap. We have a lot of fun, make friends, and foster positive attitudes in our quilting projects. You really jumped on the cutting to be ready, that is awesome!
hugs, ( not personal, just my regular signoff to all)

Macybaby 02-04-2020 03:52 AM

Welcome Darren!

I had a lot of fun making a quilt from the candies last year, and am looking forward to making another this year.

LAF2019 02-04-2020 05:06 AM

That's a bright and fun quilt! it has a bargello feel to it

nurseluanne0308 02-04-2020 05:13 AM

I would love to do this swap...but I am new and know anyone who could sponsor me!! This sounds amazing and I love the idea of giving someone special surprises during their birthday month.

Janice McC 02-04-2020 05:53 AM

Morning, everyone. Looks like sign-ups are progressing nicely. Those who are signing up, please send your info to both Barb and to me. Thank you! :)

NZQ, it's perfectly ok to use the jelly roll strips as long as they come out to 2.5 inches square. I find that some do and some don't quite make it. Use your best judgement.

Welcome, Darren. Always a pleasure to have new folks in a swap. Stirs things up a bit and keeps us from getting stale. Enjoy!

Ack!!! I'm on the list (jumping up and down and trying soooo hard not to yell-everyone's still sleeping)
I'm on the list
I'm on the list. whheeeeee (think of the wee lil piggy with his head and pinwheel outside the car).

I've literally been stalking ya'll since the day I joined. See, back then, I thought I'd lost my Y2K, talk about a special swap. I wanted to recreate it as 2020 in 2020 but dang... where have all the swappers gone? I blasted my post everywhere and only got like 12 takers... we needed over 100. So that didn't get off the ground.

Fast forward to today, not only was my Y2K unearthed but it's at the quilters! I'm thrilled. I enjoyed putting it together so much that I'm totally addicted to small pieces of fabric. Had to buy a stack of the 17" totes and now have 4 full of neatly stacked squares, triangles, HST's and 2.5 strips. I've started to print out scrap quilts that I put into a collage for inspiration. So far no one has really screamed at me.

Ahhh home at last.

WendyMcD 02-04-2020 07:10 AM

Dude! Hey I'm forever saying that so your in with me. Glad to have you, enjoy the swap.

WendyMcD 02-04-2020 07:11 AM

Macy Baby
Amazing! Is that "just" the candies from last year?

WendyMcD 02-04-2020 07:19 AM

Question... tonals ok? I was in a box of the month and got a jelly roll of tone on tone in a rainbow. It's my first "ever!!" jelly roll and I was thrilled when I saw it in the box. Hauled it out hoping for flowers or some kinda prints. Nope one more time it's tone on tone. I was in the box for four month and each month I said to myself,,, self hang on they have to get better.Yeah right. First month was white charms! seriously??!!! Next it was 10" tone on tone. Month 3 it was you guessed it tone on tone. This last jelly roll of tone on tone, kicked my bucket. I wrote to them and told them all about it. Then they asked for feedback and I gave them that too. This could be,,, should be a great box. Rainbow of any print would have been nice and happily accepted here. sigh... it just happened can you tell?

And where did Chatty Patty come from? LOL I had an infusion yesterday (SLE not cancer) mand one of the premeds is a steriod which always picks me up. Then I get Cushings and no one can touch me, not even the shower. Ok Chicka, enough outta me, ya'll have a great day. I have to work but hope to pull my fabric later. How much though? Some have done, 30, 35, group maxes out at 37. I can always use them so I'll most likely cut all 37. I don't like to redo my work. This last year though,,, I did a lot of ripping instead of fudging and I have to say, I honestly enjoyed it. Well not the ripping but the fact that I could and did do it.

Yeah hushing up. Enjoy!

WendyMcD 02-04-2020 07:29 AM

Still Here

2 Attachment(s)
Finally found some photos, I hope I'm loading them and they are working. I sure hope they are here. Techy challenged.

The photo with peeps is a quilt DD and I made in a single day, Merry Meyham's New Years mystery. We will always get together to make a quilt so long as we are both alive... every new years day.

The other is my beloved Y2k, I am so,,, just happy with this quilt. The blocks I made 20 years ago where like 10.5" the ones I made recently are more like 11.5? I alternated them for a squiggle and it all came out in the wash. My quilting skills have changed a good bit. Plus all those HST's... I tossed out the other side of them back in the day. The half that I just finished,,, they all are being put to use and are being put into those totes I have full of stacks of squares. Speaking of which, I'd love to see how ya'll store your charms etc. My large fabrics in totes,,, are now overflowing as I'm adding to it too. My sewing area is in the living room so I don't want to do anything permanent. And if it wouldn't look so utterly stupid I'd bring in this french provincial dresser for some of the fabric. Tempting though.

Have a great day.

Macybaby 02-04-2020 10:10 AM

Wendy, that is mostly charms from the swap. I did have to cut a few more of specific color groups to fill out the pattern I wanted, but not much. And I still have a decent stack that I didn't use!

The candies are fun to use in the "watercolor" type quilts too.

aborning 02-04-2020 10:50 AM

Following this thread and sure hoping a lot more people join in this swap so we have a large group like last year. Sure makes it fun at birthday time, to open lots of envelopes of "candy".
