I say go for it girls!

Personally I am interested in a sampler quilt of a variety of pieced blocks. Applique might be ok but an embroidery block among pieced blocks might stand out in a sampler quilt. JMHO.

i can go either way on this one. i plan on putting the block into a contemporary art quilt so all of my blocks will stand out like a sore thumb.
i've starting sketches and i'm calling it The Road to Tradition. |

I am in the Middle of NC, about 45 min from Greensboro and 1 hr from Charlotte, Right in the middle of no where. It's nice here unless You need something in a hurry and then it is a pain. :D :D I shop at Randy's quilt shop in Greensboro when we visit our daughter, nice big shop. |
Pats8e8,
I don't know Greensboro all that well, do you know what street it is on? I might check it out. Ninnie |

They have LOTS OF FABRIC, and do lessons and also have some big name instructors come in for classes too. Do check it out if you get a chance -- tell them Pat from California sent you. haha, They wouldn't have a clue. |
Spent the last two days drywalling my new sewing room so I have done nothing but buy the fabrics. I think Monday I will be sewing.

My second set of blocks will be 'Monkey Wrench'.

I played in my scraps tonight and made my first trial block using Boston Blocks. Well, the designs didn't turn out like I want the finished project to be. But the method is pretty simple.
As for the waste - I cut triangles from the scraps, and it wasn't bad. If I were using total scraps, it wouldn't even bother me to waste a bit. But these large triangle shapes worked great. The cool thing is that the seam size within each block didn't make a difference because the block was cut to shape after it was sewn. That made the block more accurate in my opinion. The instuctions were easy to read. I seemed to struggle a bit to get all the colors on my first trial, but now I think that the rest of the blocks will go much better. I'm really jived up to make MORE! There needs to be more contrast where the circle fabric is now. Maybe more of the checkered? This came entirely from my stash. |
