I think my fabrics choose my block, more than me choosing it.

I'm still amazed at how different a block looks when made up in different fabrics.

collettakay 06-26-2009 08:03 AM

My second set will be the Lover's Knot.

Great! That gives me time to find some yellow fabric I can use.

I have another question: are all 12 blocks we send supposed to be the same fabrics/block pattern, or can they be different? I was thinking maybe I could use some scraps, but then all my blocks wouldn't necessarily be exactly the same.

Thanks!
Jan

As long as they are the same block using scraps will be fine. I know some people used entirely all FQ's for the swap blocks.

tlrnhi 06-26-2009 08:23 AM

Well, I thought about it and I'm going to decline.
I have so many other projects I HAVE to get done.
Maybe next time.

i'm doing the friendship block and i just finished cutting up the fabric.

i used 2 different yellow fabrics and 3 different blue fabrics because people are concerned about the shades.

this way there's a blue shade to suit some ones taste and a yellow to suit some ones taste.

there's something for everyone :D

collettakay 06-26-2009 09:10 AM

I question was brought to me via pm. The concern is about if any of the blocks will be made in a smoking environment. Does anyone have any input on this subject?

bearisgray 06-26-2009 09:25 AM

klue - which friendship block are you making? there are several of them out there -

blocks that come from a smoky environment?

maybe they could either be washed or aired outside before sending them in? washing does require repressing, but it can be done -

there is also a difference between where people only smoke outside and where six people are smoking five packs a day each inside in a 10 x 10 room -

maybe have a non-smoking friend sniff them and go from there?

when my DH smokes, he does so outside, but I can tell from 20 feet away when he comes in that he just had a smoke. the UGH factor sort of fades as my nose gets deaf to the smell.

It was thoughtful of this person to ask.

Kyiav10 06-26-2009 09:25 AM

I would prefer not to have blocks that smell of smoke. I guess that's the only input I can say.

I so want to join but I know I would kick myself in the butt if I did. Even tho we are moving I should set aside time daily to sew, but just can't seem to do that anymore. Maybe next time....... Have loved all the black and white blocks.

Barbm 06-26-2009 10:08 AM

maybe we can send in with our blocks- smoking/nonsmoking so if someone wants to join, they can have blocks from the nonsmoking section. :)

Mine are nonsmoking and no pets are allowed in my room except spouse, because he is well trained. ( I call my hubby spouse for fun, since he's a Sr. and we have a Jr.)

bearisgray 06-26-2009 10:53 AM

re smoke
oh, dear.

I think it was decided with the black and white exchange - many of us have pets that participate - so we take our chances with that - I think those that were severely allergic chose not to participate?

I did use the sticky roller on front and back of my blocks before sending them on their way, buy BearCat did "help" with them - he approved of the fabric, he pressed it, made sure of where I was cutting, etc.

I just HAD to make a trip to my LQS this morning -- This is the fabric that I fell in love with for this swap. Fresh from the dryer!! What do you think?

OK, now, help me to decide on an EASY block -- OK????

kluedesigns 06-26-2009 11:26 AM

this is the style friendship block that i'm doing

http://www.quilterscache.com/F/FriendshipStarBlock.html

i don't smoke and would prefer not to receive blocks from a smoking environment.

the smoke scented block will cause the non-smoking blocks to smell too once you place them in a squish together.

sharon b 06-26-2009 11:33 AM

What about spraying them with febreeze or something of that nature before shipping them out ? Spray the squares , let them air dry and that should take care of the smell ... Just a thought

It's not too late until August 31st. Jump right in!

collettakay 06-26-2009 12:18 PM

I think I need to clarify the smoking issue. This person does NOT like the way smoke soaks into the fabrics and then is hard to remove. If we're all in concensus about keeping our blocks away from cigarette smoke then I think that is all the farther we should go on the subject.

I've received over 50 block sets for the B&W and absolutely none of them have had an unpleasant odor. A few of them I actually sniffed longer than really necessary! So end of subject.

ENJOY THE BLUE AND YELLOW SWAP!!!

bearisgray 06-26-2009 12:28 PM

that's good to know that all the B & W sets came in okay

chewboo 06-26-2009 01:32 PM

i also prefer no smoking and my pets are not allowed in my quilting room i am doing antique mosaic #22 abd clay's choice

Sorry - I think I've changed my mind on the block I will do this time --
I've decided to do the Magic Cross instead of Double Z. Sorry to mess up your list, Colletta

Not a problem. I saved it in Word. Just the hit of a few keys and all will be fixed.

MadeinMaine 06-27-2009 07:21 AM

Thanks, Colletta :P

sewjoyce 06-27-2009 11:31 AM
