This is where you should now be posting your comments, pictures, encouragement, whatever you want to post regarding your group. We’d love to hear about your blocks, see in progress pictures, hear a funny story (Terriamn), have you show us new techniques or gadgets or ideas (Bluelady), just generally share. Don’t disappear for 4 months! Post something so we know you are still out there!

The success of Boom 13 is immensely dependent upon you keeping to the schedule so please review the full schedule below. The dates items are due in my hands are not 'guidelines', they are 'deadlines' and are non-negotiable! With this method of shipping/distribution, if even one person is late, EVERYONE IS LATE. As for me, I’ll keep to my deadlines as noted below unless I keel over! And, to that end, you’ll notice that Jaba is your Alternate Host for this group. Happily, she’s agreed to pick up where I leave off in the event of an emergency. I’ve made arrangements for my family to send everything for Clover to Jaba should I be unable to continue. She’ll receive whatever supplies of yours I have as well as an up to date spreadsheet and your contact information. How I hope it never comes to that but it’s a back-up plan just in case.

I’ve prepared emails with more details for everyone, including where to send your f8s, and those will be going out shortly. Please look for them, read them and hit ‘reply’ so I know you’ve gotten the information. If there are any questions, if something is unclear, if I’ve left anybody out or otherwise made an error, please let me know as soon as possible!

Keep these dates in mind:

Monday, June 23, 2014 – All of Clover’s F8s MUST BE IN MY HANDS

Wednesday, June 25, 2014 – I mail F8’s to all Clover members

Saturday, October 25, 2014 – Clover’s completed blocks MUST BE IN MY HANDS

Tuesday, October 28, 2014 – I mail Clover’s completed blocks to each member

Remember to send me the tracking info for your package to [email protected]. Email me with any questions or problems or omissions.

Thank you so much for joining Boom 13, the Four Leaf Clover or "Clover" 4 Month Group!

Janice
***********

Basic rules from one Boom to the next:

Groups can be either small (16’ish swappers) or large (30’ish swappers) but it will be totally dependent upon who signs up for what. You may also select whether you want a 2 month swap or a 4 month swap but nothing will be set in stone until names and requests start coming in. All fabric pieces and completed blocks will be sent to me for distribution to other members and tracking will be required on all packages. ALL SKILL LEVELS ARE WELCOME. Other important points, we use of Fat Eighths ONLY, not Eighths, proper preparation of all fabrics, participation on the dedicated Boom 13 boards, proper packaging of fabrics and completed blocks, etc. Details follow below but anyone who has participated in a Boom before knows the basics.

In general, this is how the Boom works:
You will receive a list of Board Names of those in your group. You choose a fabric, prepare it and send it to me. You need one Fat Eighth (18” x 11”) for each member. Send all F8s to me along with any special requests for your fabric. I will distribute them to the other members. You stitch a block for each member out of the F8 you receive from them. When you have finished ALL blocks, you ship them to me and I will again sort them and return the completed blocks to everyone.

Rules/Guidelines:
Please make sure to also refer to the basic policies that apply to all swaps through the board: RULES FOR SWAPS AND SIMILAR ACTIVITIES - Updated 8 December 2010.

Fabric, Completed Block and Package Preparation:

1) Please pre-wash your fabric before cutting into Fat Eighths by de-selvaging, pre-washing and pressing. Cut your fabric into Fat Eighths, generally about 18” x 11” or as small as 18”x 10”, depending upon shrinkage. Mail them to me. (Also, be certain that the fabrics you plan to use to complete blocks have been pre-washed as well.)

2) When mailing your F8s to me for distribution, please make sure they are individually sealed in a small ziploc bag or tightly wrapped in Saran Wrap and lie as flat as possible. Label each F8 with your board name along with any instructions or color requests. Labels are useful to help the recipient prevent fabric mix-ups, something that’s easy to do. (DO NOT SPECIFY A RECIPIENT unless a certain fabric is being directed to a particular person. Doing so slows my sorting process immensely.) Put all the f8s inside a larger ziplock bag with your name and your group’s name and then put them in your shipping container. (Note: if you are in multiple groups and combining shipping, please separate f8s into 2 separate bags, one for each group. Whatever you do, do not toss f8s for multiple groups in a single bag and mail it!) When you send your completed blocks back to me, please seal and label your completed blocks with the owner’s name AND your name in a similar manner as you did the F8s. (Your name is important so that the owner knows who made what block.)

3) Please mail your F8s to me so they are in my hands on the date specified, for Boom 13 that date is June 23, sooner if you can manage it. The sooner you get them to me, the sooner they go out! Be sure to send me the tracking number as soon as you mail. Do not forget to send me tracking info!

4) Carefully handle all fabric received and completed blocks, placing them somewhere safe and clean until mailing time comes.

5) To help keep track of the fabrics and blocks made, I will establish an online Fabric Gallery if you send me pix of your F8 fabric and completed blocks as you go.

6) Please keep in touch with your group members by posting to the dedicated Boom 13 thread. It is a REQUIREMENT to post your block-making status.

7) All blocks must be completed within the time frame for the group and mailed to me with a tracking number.

8) All blocks should be 12 1/2” unfinished. They may be regularly pieced, paper-pieced, appliquéd, whatever the block maker decides to do. It is up to each individual. Again, the feeling is to get a true friendship quilt out of this. Please do not request specific blocks as the idea is to let everyone, of every skill level, join in and try new things and grow. Before mailing, be sure to clean up the blocks by trimming your threads and cutting the dog ears.

9) Most importantly, HAVE FUN!

IMPORTANT SHIPPING DETAILS
You must supply me with tracking numbers on all parcels sent to me and I will do likewise when I mail to you. All shipping costs are your responsibility. You may ship to me in whatever tracked package you like, however I will ONLY ship to you in USPS Padded Priority Envelopes at a cost is $6. You may supply me with a pre-paid or pre-stamped USPS Padded Priority Envelope (available for free at USPS.com) or send me $6 in well-concealed cash and I will supply the envelope, whatever is easier for you.

Keep in mind the following:

You MUST be in good standing with previous swaps. ANYONE with a poor track record of fulfilling swap commitments will not be permitted to join. Once names are published on the thread, I will likely be told if there have been previous problems and you may be dropped.

If you do not return blocks for your fellow members by the group deadline, I will hold blocks made for you until you do so. My goal is 100 percent completion! Failure to complete the Boom will result in negative feedback.

PLEASE do not send fabrics or blocks with perfume or overwhelming fragrances on them due to allergies. There are swap members or family members who have severe allergies to certain things so please try your best to not send anything that could cause an allergic reaction.

Please keep in mind that various swappers may be smokers or have pets. If this is a problem for you, this will not be the swap for you.

NO public complaints or criticisms of other swappers, items received or other type for any reason are permitted. ALL complaints must be addressed by Private Message (PM) or email to me at [email protected]. NO EXCEPTIONS!

*Group lengths and group sizes are fluid and will be determined by sign-ups. You may be asked to adjust one or both to fill vacancies as needed. If changing doesn’t suit you, you may withdraw at that time.

Hi everybody! :)

I'm in both groups, and am sending an assortment of oriental F8s (pic below). Hope y'all have fun with them!

They're wrapped in snowflake-themed Press & Seal, since it's what I had onhand. By the time we're working on the blocks, it'll probably be HOT HOT HOT outside, so a few ice cold snowflakes might be welcome! :D

Bee Beatty 06-03-2014 04:04 AM

Moonrise,

Love how you grouped photos of the different fabric! Did this upload as one attachment? I assume that you took photo of each fabric - how did you create the collage? I love this! Gives a good feel for the color story of the finished quilt.

Thanks,
Bee

Billi 06-03-2014 04:10 AM

Those are beautiful, I always pet and drool over Asian prints not having a clue what I would do with them I have never bought any.........I'm looking forword to working with one of them.

moonrise 06-03-2014 04:20 AM

Thanks! :) These were from an F8 swap a couple of years ago. DH's employer moved him to first shift, resulting in a cut in hours (ouch!) and a loss of his night shift bonus pay (double ouch!), so rather than buy fabric this time, I shopped from my stash. I had these F8s stuck waaaaayyyy back in the back of my fabric cabinet, and had forgotten about them, so it was an awesome surprise to find them again.

Yes, I took individual photos, then combined them into one using a program called PhotoScape. It's an awesome photo editor, and it's free! :)

Let me see if I can find the link. BRB.

Yep, here it is: http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/index.php

(No affiliation.)

jaba 06-03-2014 06:09 AM

Thanks for the link moonrise, now just to learn how to use it:) Mailed my fabric yesterday and I did send you poppies Billi. This group will have the selection of the state flowers fabric. Should be fun to get them back and see what everyone has chosen to send out.

I'm in both groups. My fabric won't fit in a small box. Guess I need to go to the PO and see if they have the envelopes.
Four leaf clover is getting the blue jeans look, pink and blue flowers.

Ok I'm ready to roll here. Last minute changes to the fabric choices for each group is done. Yep I'm in both.
I didn't have enough of either fabric to use just one so I'm sending 10 of each color. These will be my fabrics in this group. Mine will be in the mail by this weekend! Now time to look at patterns!

Awesome I'm already looking for possible ideas just waiting to see it and your wishes before I get too crazy

Also I am apologizing in advance for my craptastic writing on the labels My printer was down and I wrote them all out by hand :p With my writing I should have been a doctor.

I am here...and am now in the group! Hello to all!

Janice McC 06-03-2014 12:59 PM

Those who have not yet replied to the email I sent yesterday, please do so as soon as possible. If you don't, I have no way of knowing if you rec'd the info. Also, no response may mean no interest in participating - I cannot guess. Please don't make me track you down! (My pups lack the hound dog genes.) Anyone who sent a reply, should have rec'd a 'thank you' reply from me so you know you're in good shape and up to date.

Janice McC 06-03-2014 01:00 PM

Welcome, difergie! Glad to have you back for another round.

I mailed out my F8s to Janice today; emailed you my tracking ###.

Welcome to Difergie. Does that mean someone has already dropped out?? I printed out our original list as I like to keep track of QB names. Please let us know if we need to adjust our list.

Moonrise - I was in that same Asian F8 swap a couple of years ago and, yes, mine are still waiting to be used! LOL

Great start all - - -

Jane

Janice McC 06-03-2014 02:29 PM

UPDATE: shifting of group participants

Ironically, it isn't until I post groups that the shifting begins! And so it is this time and I'm coming to see this as normal. There are a few people moving between groups, dropping one or picking up another and new people being added. Not to worry! You may see folks posting who don't appear on your group list but chances are they've just been added so roll with it. Anyway, in a day or two more, things will settle down and I'll provide a revised list. BE ADVISED HOWEVER, GROUP SIZE REMAINS THE SAME, TOPPING OUT AT 20 PER GROUP SO YOU SHOULD SEND ME 19 F8s.

Hehehehehe! I knew you could not resist the gravitational pull this group has! The excitement of logging into QB to see the latest block photo posted! The thrill of fumbling around in the dark at 2 a.m. looking for your I-Pad....just to see if you missed a post by one of our west coast California girls after going to bed for the night! All the synergy and the ROTFLOL posts....not to mention the extreme pleasure that comes from creating a block for a quilter! Its just a ginormous good time! Get your Boom on Difergi! Good to see your in!

I am loving this word "craptastic". I can immediately call to mind a variety of uses in a sentence. Its whole new way of getting one's point across! :) Nice to meet you. Looking forward to swapping with you!

Hi everyone and welcome to the new swappers. My fabric is cut, need to vague and take pictures. I am also sending fabrics from a swap I was in. Fabric all has a black background with a white print and would like you to use the exact opposite. White background with a black print and a dash of red somewhere in the block. Terriamn

I didn't sign up for the boom swap this time. Just to much going on. Looks like there are some nice prints to work with so far. Have fun and remember to post your finished blocks.

These are the 4 fabrics I am sending. These will be used (probably) to make charity quilts for My Very Own Blanket, an organization that provides quilts to foster kids. They do not want them wider than 40 inches so I find that 6 blocks works well by the time you finish with sashings and a border. Also, I like to include at least one block in the quilt that I have made so I will send 5 F8s for 3 of the fabrics and 4 for the other. I doubt I will send any instructions with any of these fabrics so let your imagination reign.

Reminder, as the subject has just come up on another thread, ALWAYS use BOARD NAMES, NEVER real names whenever you post here. It's less of an issue now as I'm the only one with everyone's full private info but try to be careful you don't accidentally share anything private that you or another person may not want shared. Thanks!

Just have to package and mail. There is a couple of regular fabrics in there but they are not going to be put in my quilt.
There is a quilt and a kitchen wall hanging or a table topper in the planning.

I have been visiting out of state for a few days and it will take days to just catch up with all the messages! Here is my very neutral fabric. looking to make a wedding gift and do not know the colors yet! So any light natural colors that are in the material will be great.

Great fabrics ladies! Such lovely colors and different themes. Tomorrow's a full day at the hospital with sis so it'll be a perfect time to download all your pix. I've got to get that gallery under construction and post the url. FYI, DH will be home to receive any and all packages - I've gotten three already!

Bluelady 06-04-2014 07:22 PM

I am loving the fabric I am seeing!! Batiks, 30's, Black n white with a touch of yellow (thought I read red though??), flowers and neutrals and craptastics and UNICORNS! lol..
This is going to be a great boom ladies! Oh.. I need to get a picture of my fabric up! Will do that soon It is out of my stash and is a little odd.. :)~

Bluelady 06-04-2014 07:43 PM

My fabric.

1 Attachment(s)
Here it is! It has bits of green blue yellow and pink.. The pink sometimes looks red , but when you hold red or pink fabric up to it.. it is Pink! Each little circle is just a hair smaller than a dime. So it is a busy print!
I want to go with the dark bright pink and white on white for the other fabrics in the block. Not the green or other colors.. The pink looks striking with it.. I will of course put instructions in my packet. A few of you might get my pansy fabric from the last boom, as I have a few packets left..
I plan to get it all packed up this weekend to send to Janice.

Billi 06-05-2014 07:43 AM

More and more pretty fabrics I love seeing all the different pieces and learning what everybody is wanting for this blocks. One of the reasons I joined was to push me out of my comfort zone and force me to be more creative, that is why in my instrunctions I say to use what you think is best any color is acceptable I just ask that if white is in the plan to use white or w.o.w. not tan cream or off white. That will help me be more able to see my fabrics in a differnt light, and probably make me be more creative when putting the quilt top together. I did not figure that getting your fabrics and instrunctions was going to be as instrumental in my education. so thank you :-)

Janice good luck to you and Sis and here is hoping for a speedy recovery and she continues to respond well to treatment.

Janice McC 06-05-2014 08:01 AM

The basic gallery is up. I'll add more pix as they are posted or emailed to me.
