I think 2 small lap quilts with 2.5 " green sashing in between each block and around the outside with a 4" tan or cream border.

NZquilter 05-24-2019 12:52 PM

Joan's blocks do look nice altogether like. I second the two small lap quilts.

Ladies, I feel so bad that I have not done anything yet with all the beautiful blocks you made me! I love them and really want to start, but I'm just so exhausted nowadays! Sometimes crying tired. I know it's the end of pregnancy exhaustion and it will pass, but in the meantime, I have just had to slow waaaay down. I'm so hoping Baby comes as soon as full term (3 weeks aways) is official! The tornado thunderstorm the other day nearly put me into preterm labor, but I was able to sleep it off, so false labor.

Janice McC 05-24-2019 01:17 PM

NZQ, rest up and try not to fret. All will be well.

Oops, just saw my typo. I have 15 completed blocks as you can see from the pic. If I go with two small quilts with nine blocks each, I’ll need only three more. I’ll see how I feel about the blocks when I actually start work on them in 2 weeks. A couple are off-sized so they’ll need to be adjusted regardless of quilt size and style. That’s the starting place.

Janice, Those blocks will look nice as lap quilts such soft colors.

NZquilter, I too hope the baby comes soon. I hope you and all in the path are safe during the storms.

Here are two quick finishes in time for Memorial Day. I cut the edges off the table runner but you get the idea.

Janice on my adventure out shopping today I found 2 more yards of Joanelizbay's fabric if you need more. It needs to be washed.

Libster 05-25-2019 01:52 AM

I have some of Joan's fabric too if you need it.

Janice McC 05-28-2019 08:07 AM

Hi Laters...I don't think I'll need any more of Joan's fabric but thank you. What I could use, Queenbarbiej, is the color dots on the selvage of your new Joan fabric...one set anyway. If you could cut off one set and mail it to me, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm trying out all kinds of arrangements. My main issue right now is what sashing color. I've tried every green I have (and I have dozens of varying shades) and the only one that seems to pull the blocks together is a dark green, but that wasn't my "vision" of it. I'd hoped to use the same color as Joan sent with her F8s but it doesn't seem to work with all the other greens as there are quite a variety. Her green works great with her floral but some greens next to hers just do not playing well together. Not at all! lol They're up on the design board and I rearrange them each time I see them. Guess I'm trying for perfection and that just ain't possible, at least not from me. LOL

Queenbarbiej 05-28-2019 08:35 AM

I'll take a look at the selvage and see what's there and mail it to you. I still have your address.

Janice the selvage is on its way to you. Ladies I am done with my quilt. My feathers aren't perfect but I like it. I did the feathers in a multi purple thread. It was a little difficult to see when I was quilting. Second time doing feathers on a new to me Federal machine. The back of the quilt may look pinkish but it is actually purple. I hand dyed it that way.

Kassaundra 05-30-2019 03:48 AM

Great finish QueeenB

NZquilter 05-30-2019 04:22 AM

It's beautiful QueenB!! Congratulations! Your feathers look great.

sewbizgirl 05-30-2019 05:48 AM

Beautiful finish, QueenB!

terriamn 05-30-2019 01:34 PM

It’s beautiful Queen Barbie, great job on the feathers. Even though my tops were small I sent them off to becquilted along with 2 more tops. So they would get finished.

Queenbarbiej 05-30-2019 01:39 PM

I like doing all of the whole quilting process myself. Right now I have 3 quilts left. One to finish piecing and two to sandwich and quilt. I should be able to get all three done by the end of June. Then I will have at least one more to do and Christmas will be done.

Darcyshannon 05-30-2019 05:31 PM

Congratulations on finishing your lovely purple quilt.

zozee 05-30-2019 08:27 PM

Queen--congrats on the finish! It looks great. How fun is it to see one's own block in someone's finished work? :)

Janice, have you auditioned pinks for Joan's sashing?

Janice McC 05-31-2019 01:42 PM

Zozee, no, not yet. I was working with greens when all this mess with mom started. I was hoping to keep the quilt from looking ultra feminine so that it might appeal to a wide group however pink will probably be the easiest to work with. I tried various shades of brown from the flowers but those overwhelm her blocks. When Queenbarbiej’s selvage arrives, I’ll have some good shades to match.

Janice If you are wanting to "de" pink it how about a soft metal grey w/ grey / white cornerstones like this

Janice McC 05-31-2019 02:46 PM

Kassaundra, that’s an idea! :) Thank you. I welcome all suggestions.

Hope to be able to get the colors chosen next week, providing I don’t have to keep 14 hour days at the hospital.

zozee 05-31-2019 02:54 PM

The grey looks good, Kassaundra. Keeps it from from being ultra feminine and it lets the blocks take prominence.

Janice, blessings as you serve your mom in so many ways . I’m she appreciates everything you do.

Janice McC 06-03-2019 06:45 AM

Queenbarbiej, it looks like your letter will arrive today as I recd a pic of it thanks to USPS Informed Delivery. I’ll get it tonight when I get home. Thank you!

Queenbarbiej 06-03-2019 06:50 AM

You are welcome. I am glad I was able to help. Let me know if you need any of the fabric. I used about half a yard of it leaving 1.5 yards.

Janice McC 06-03-2019 07:43 PM

It’s here, but I haven’t opened it yet. It’s been quite a full day today but I can’t sleep. More on that another day. I’m doing laundry that should have been done a week ago but I’d prefer to be sleeping. No such luck. Hope you all sleep well.

Good morning, Boomers. I just posted over on Later about the next boom but I haven't forgotten about Joan's blocks. They're still up on my design board, exactly as they were before Mom became ill several weeks ago. I plan to get to the LQS this week or early next for sashing fabric and backing so I can get working on the quilt. With that and Boom 23, I think I'll start to feel more like myself. Just wanted to let you know Joan's quilt has not been forgotten.

Janice McC 06-16-2019 03:28 PM

Quick fyi re:Boom 23, I'd like to start sign-ups about July 1 with F8s due in my hands about a month later. I'm finalizing the schedule right now. I'll pm admin soon for the ok to post on July 1.

It’s beautiful, Jaba! I see mine!

zozee 07-21-2019 08:54 PM

Beautiful!! I see my block, too! What fun.

Janice McC 07-22-2019 07:57 AM

Jaba, beautiful quilt!

Janice McC 09-15-2019 11:40 AM

Hello Sooners, I cannot believe so much time has passed with no update from me on Joan’s quilt. Due to a number of circumstances, it was put on hold but I’m back at it. I have QAYG and it’s all together except for the borders. Then I’ll bind it and it’ll be done and ready to donate. I’ll post a pic as soon as I finish. :)

sewbizgirl 09-15-2019 11:47 AM

Can't wait to see that! Thanks for the update.

Here’s how it looks now.

Oh, how much time was put into the color of the sashing! I gratefully took all your suggestions and went down to my LQS. Four of us pulled fabric after fabric, at least 2 hours, until we narrowed it down to the light green. It was the only color that didn’t overwhelm the lights, the 15 different greens and Joan’s very delicate fabric colors. I walked out of there with enough for this project and a bunch more blenders for myself to help cover the expense of their time. My gosh!

I put 12 blocks on the front and several more on the back. The reason for this was three-fold. First I’m working on a small throated DSM and the larger the quilt, the greater the struggle, even QAYG. Two, I had difficulty with a couple of blocks both in size and shape so I compensated allowing them to determine placement. Three, I was already having neuro issues and each section became harder and slower than the last and I feared I’d never finish a larger quilt, an utterly unacceptable outcome as you can well guess.. So, I tried to channel Joan a bit and did precisely what I wanted to do. We who knew Joan for years know she often went her own way so I went my own way. All blocks made are being used and overall I’m pleased. It needs a bit of pressing and straightening out on the design board but you get the drift. Next up borders and then binding. I’m debating the size of the outer borders but I won’t wait long to decide as my personal projects are piling up fast. Grandbaby is coming soon (3 months) and I’ve got some items to sew for her or him.

Kassaundra 09-17-2019 08:12 PM

Awesome job Janice.

Queenbarbiej 09-18-2019 03:15 AM

Janice it came out great. I didn't know Joan but I'm sure she would love it.

sewbizgirl 09-18-2019 03:33 AM

It looks great, Janice!

What are you planning to make for the grandbaby?

This is my block for Moonrise from one of her medallions. I hope it works as you had planned. But the fabric I had left over might make a pocket for a pen or a chapstick! I enjoyed pulling this one together.

Beautiful quilt for Joan, Janice. My dr says that sewing in keeping me mentally alert. I hope it is helping you as you find your new normal at home. You are encouraging me in my resolve to QAYG on my blocks from this Boom!

zozee 09-18-2019 06:32 PM

Janice, that quilt is looking beautiful. Thank you for all you've done to make it just right, and your own way, to honor Joan's memory. Finding the right green is often as hard as finding the right red, and the soft grey-green you finally chose is perfect. It really enhances the colors and lets the blocks do the starring.

terriamn 09-19-2019 05:29 PM

Janice it is beautiful. Love the soft green you chose
