Congrats, MJP! Love your new grandbabies' names. Eleanor is one of my favorites! I pray health and growth for them, and strength for you as you drive your daughter back and forth.

Looking forward to playing with your Kaffe fabric, if it happens to come my way!

kristijoy 04-26-2021 08:35 AM

MJP - Congrats on the new Grandbabies! Sounds like they are in good hands! I'm glad you are able to be there and spend time helping out. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

Looking forward to the Kaffe fabric! This is my first boom, I'm excited to make special blocks for each of you! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/boy.gif

And Ibex, Thanks for the tip on the post office envelopes! That sounds like a great way to do it!

ibex94 04-26-2021 09:49 AM

MJP - Congratulations! That is quite a bit of excitement in everyone's lives. I am so glad you are able to help! Hugs and blessing to everyone! I hope your daughter feels great soon. Your granddaughters are going to flourish and your bonus grands are so lucky to have you there to keep them entertained. Win-Win everywhere!

I wanted to share this top that was made with BOOM blocks. It was for someone going through chemo who is from Hawaii. She cried when she received the quilt last week.

Janice McC 04-26-2021 01:32 PM

Hav4boys, it’s beautiful. I loved those colors when I saw them. Just the thing to cheer a person! Congrats.

MJP - Congratulations on the twin grand-babies!
have4boys - Love the color. It is very calming.

kristijoy 04-26-2021 05:32 PM

What a gorgeous quilt with the BOOM blocks. I'm so glad it was able to bring someone love and happiness!

terriamn 04-27-2021 03:11 AM

MJP, congratulations on your twin grand babies. How exciting.

H4B love your quilt. I remember enjoying your fabric while working on your block

No news here on my dd buying our house. Talk about a slow moving process. Think my patience has flown out the window. Hoping working on these blocks will bring back some continuity and joy into my life

Janice McC 04-27-2021 03:55 AM

Those of you wishing to send me the padded forever envelopes, please do. I can ship in those as well as the regular ones. It’s a good option. Your choice!

klaws 04-27-2021 05:13 AM

MJP, so excited to hear of your granddaughters being born. I wish them a full and healthy life! My granddaughter was also a preemie and weighed a little less than 3 pounts. She is now a beautiful young lady who will be 25 in September. Love and hug them while they are little because they grow up so fast.

Sewbiz, it's hard to believe that your GDs are two already. That is such a fun age!

I'm off to prewash my fabric for the boom and will post a picture later.

sewbizgirl 04-27-2021 07:02 AM

Love your quilt, Hav... it turned out so pretty!

travelinggramma 04-27-2021 07:43 AM

The last boom I sent out various cowboy/pioneer/western material. This was my note:
"Prescott Arizona has had a rodeo every year since 1888 which makes it the World’s Oldest Rodeo. We are awed at the ability and spirit the men and women have. So when doing your block think round-ups, ranchers, pioneers, horses and broncs. Any color and technique. Have fun. Thank you. Travelinggramma AKA "

As you can see - everyone got into the theme and it made an awesome quilt!

Your quilt is beautiful TG It’s fun seeing our blocks together.

here is the fabric I’m sending. Each of you will get a different fabric but the same companion fabric.

kristijoy 04-27-2021 04:14 PM

Oooh! Love your quilt TG!

Thanks for posting your note. That helped me alot! It's my first time and I wondered what flavors the notes take one. Connie's quilt had the fun fabric with additions of greens and turquoise, both of which seem like they were picked to go with the focus fabric.

Nice bright colors

sewbizgirl 04-27-2021 05:51 PM

Love that quilt, TG.

ibex94 04-28-2021 04:17 AM

TravelingGramma - You always have such great themes for your BOOM quilts. You also put them together so beautifully! I'm sorry you wont be with us this BOOM but I sure am glad you'll be lurking when you can!

You introduced me to inklingo a few booms ago. I'm thinking about using her Winding Ways block for this BOOM if the fabric works well. Have you tried it yet?

ibex94 04-28-2021 04:26 AM

MJP gorgeous fabric choices. You are stretching my design abilities already. What are you hoping for at the end or do you have a plan? Two baby quilts? A particular seasonal usage? Is the pink the companion fat eighth fabric or are we getting a fat eighth of Kaffe?

I'm drooling over your fabrics but need to start picking mine, lol.

terriamn 04-28-2021 05:05 AM

TG love love your quilt, turned out fantastic.

MJ it will be so much fun to work with your kaffee fabric.

Mine are all cut just need to make note and put in baggies. Not sending the usual bright Terri colors but a muted floral.

I have been trying to purchase the forever padded envelopes. Anyone else having any problems placing their order

LOL - I just downloaded the 12" Winding Ways!! I haven't tried it but liked the idea that I can use the machine. I can never seem to cut shapes well with templates so wanted to try it! Will be watching yours.

sewbizgirl 04-28-2021 06:50 AM

Hi Ladies,

I bought Marti Michell’s Winding Ways templates a few years back and got to meet her too (Paducah show). I found that even with perfect templates WW was one of the hardest blocks I have ever pieced. I made one small wall quilt and that will be my last! Hope you ladies have better luck with Inklingo. Let us know...

I will be trying on my fabric before I do it on anyone else's fabric. We'll see what happens.... And, tahdah, here is my BOOM 26 fabric designed to drive you all crazy while I get a patriotic President's Day quilt made, thanks to you all! I have no color restrictions. Be as creative with colors or patterns as you want. George Bush (the younger) is the last president on this particular fabric. My favorite, of the ones that are from my memories is Jimmy Carter because he was always very diplomatic and a gentleman and loved the natural environment. I know he couldn't get the economy under control, but his core values were and are the ideals I strive to duplicate. I'm glad he is still around to inspire me.

kristijoy 04-28-2021 09:36 AM

ibex94 - That is really awesome fabric! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.pnghttps://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/thumbup.png This is going to be so much fun!

I got my second Moderna shot this weekend and was feeling under the weather for a few days. I didn't want to cut fabric when my brain was fuzzy!!! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/tongue.png I'm planning on cutting this weekend.

kristijoy 04-28-2021 09:42 AM

That's fun you mentioned winding ways. I was looking at this specialized curved ruler on Amazon a couple days ago. It might be the same block, but a different size. It looked like there were lots of creative ways to use this ruler. I haven't done much with curves.

Here's the pattern:
AmazonSmile: Chic Country Quilt Pattern: Arts, Crafts & Sewing

Here's the ruler:
AmazonSmile: Sew Kind of Wonderful QCR Quick Curve Ruler

I put it on my wishlist! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/hunf.png

juliasb 04-28-2021 11:45 AM

Fabric is washed and dried and ready to be ironed then cut. Baggies are all lined up to fill just waiting to know how many I need to send out. I am getting so excited!

Janice McC 04-28-2021 12:45 PM

Reminder! Sign-ups close on Friday night so anyone who is fence-sitting, please jump on down and join us!

Janice McC 04-29-2021 05:09 AM

Good morning! Tomorrow group sign-ups close and it appears we will have only one small 3 month group. We have 14 people signed up. Does everyone still wish to go forward with the swap with the smaller number of people? If so, We do have a couple of options. One, everyone can send a single F8 per person (currently you'd need to send me 13) and you would each make 13 blocks for your fellow swappers. Or, two, you all can send me 19 f8s and each of you will get 6 f8 duplicates, and you'd be making 19 blocks. How do you all feel about it? I can do it either way. I, of course, lean to the second option so that you all end up with the full 19 blocks for your time and shipping money. Discussion?

Janice McC 04-29-2021 05:30 AM

Another option, (see post below) is to sign-up twice, sending two sets of fabric per person. It's what Hav4boys did last round. It might work well again for Hav4boys and Sewbizgirl since you both indicated you want to be in two groups. Jayne W has already expressed an interest in doing just that. Let me know if this is of interest to anyone else. Thanks!

I'm off to get a real haircut. Woo hoo! The mop will be gone shortly. :)

mjpEncinitas 04-29-2021 05:41 AM

Please have us send 19. Since Sara and I are splitting the boom and I am sending ten different fabrics you would not be getting duplicates from us. You would be getting two different fabrics.

thanks Janice
Off to Omaha where my main job will to be part of a team holding my tiny (less than 3 lbs) twin granddaughters for 6-8 hours a day. Littlest one breathes better with skin to skin contact. Pretty good job under the circumstance. I thought I’d be spending the whole time cooking and cleaning.

Janice McC 04-29-2021 06:07 AM

Mjp, Have a safe trip to Omaha. Enjoy those little ones.

travelinggramma 04-29-2021 06:19 AM

MJP - this brings back memories of me with my GD in the NICU. I would sit for hours and read aloud to her. One day all I had was the monthly Reader's Digest and the nurses were loving the articles. But I was the one she recognized!! Enjoy every moment!

IBEX - alot of fussy cutting of Presidents - I mean who can cut their head off - well you know what I mean. I would Pres Carter in a peanut field. Or Teddy Roosevelt on the wild west with horses.

sewbizgirl 04-29-2021 06:27 AM

Ibex, hard fabric! But I got an idea of how to cut it.

With WW the secret is to keep strictly to your seam allowance. Otherwise you lose those thin places that are important to the design. I have always loved WW.

Today is moving day at my daughter’s house. Movers arrive in 45 minutes!

terriamn 04-29-2021 07:51 AM

Sewbiz. Is your dd staying in the Memphis area? Are homes selling like hot cakes there. Most homes are selling within a couple days of being listed here.

My dd was pre approved for a mortgage to buy our house but they didn’t send her the actual numbers so we still don’t know anything. Friday we will take our first load to the storage unit. My dh is getting antsy and I feel like pickle in the middle. Both are strong willed and stubborn.

Will take pictures in a bit of my boomfabric

Janice I prefer to send the 19 baggies. 14 hardly seems worth sending. How weird that the last one filled so quickly and not this one

juliasb 04-29-2021 08:11 AM

I prefer to send 19 baggies. A full quilt is my goal. Now to begin bagging things up.

Janice McC 04-29-2021 11:59 AM

Since those who replied so far are set for 19, let's go ahead and plan to send 19 F8s. If anyone besides JayneW wishes to sign up for two spots, they can let me know and it won't affect the number of F8s to send.
