It can be done. I will have to find a 2nd color to go with what I already have for the swap.

Fabric

My fabric, I am asking no green be added other then the 5 “ square some of you will be receiving for the accompanying fabric. I plan on using the green for the sashing. Everyone will be receiving a 5 “ square of a complimentary fabric that I hope you add to your square. Please use tone on tones, thin stripes or a tiny print in the darker and or lighter purple. Thank you

kristijoy 04-29-2021 05:28 PM

Sounds like you all figured out a plan!

Terri - your fabric is so pretty! It will be fun to see it in person! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

sewbizgirl 04-29-2021 05:59 PM

If we sign up for two spots, can we mail them together? I’m all about the thrift!

sewbizgirl 04-29-2021 06:12 PM

Terri, love your fabric and am excited about using it.

Yes, real estate is hugely inflated here in Memphis. The reason DD and SIL sold their house was because they found another one first. They found a real “unicorn “... a 101 year old house in Midtown, a very popular and beautiful part of Memphis. It feels like Natchez MS to me, with all the huge old mansions. The house needed new sewer, roof, wiring and HVAC. Also a lot of remodeling and ripping out walls, kitchen, etc. They love this kind of challenge and are good at it, so I expect this house to be amazing when they get done.

To be able to compete buying a house now you need to make an all cash offer, about 30k over the asking price. I made great offers but have missed out on 3 already. Would love to find a little house here. My daughter’s house was in a class by itself because it needed so much work that no buyers wanted to touch it.

I am in for 19.

terriamn 04-29-2021 07:54 PM

Sewbiz if hubby and I were smart we would just live in our new camper for the summer then head to Texas the first of October for the winter. We would come back for a few weeks at Christmas. Next spring hopefully the market will have settled down and we can start looking again. We talked about a fixer upper but have pretty much decided against it. Just not that enjoyable at our age. We are looking an hour outside of the city and even there the prices are inflated and homes are selling in just a couple hours after they have been listed.

i do wish that we had a couple of our ducks in a row.

marcialee 04-30-2021 12:22 AM

I have my baggies filled with assorted christmas F8's. I put notes in them just saying to use traditional Christmas colors with most...some I prefer to stay away from the background colors. I use my baggies over and over when I do the booms. If you place your fabric in the baggies as the size of the baggie, they lay very flat and snip a corner off the baggie so the air will release, they ship better.
Sounds like everyone is as busy as I tend to be, so this is a great stress releaser.
I will do the swap in any manner you choose to do it. I have 19 bagged and ready to go.

Janice McC 04-30-2021 03:16 AM

As always, you can ship however you wish to me but if I cannot squeeze both sets of blocks into a single bag, I’ll have to go to a box or two bags. I cannot guarantee to use a single bag as everyone packs the blocks differently. Let’s all pack small!

I'm getting my fabric ready today. I've decided to do a patriotic quilt this time so everyone will get a piece of a red, white and blue fabric. You can do whatever you want with it. I can't wait to get started!

Janice McC 04-30-2021 08:00 AM

Sign-ups end tonight!

Anyone else out there who wants to join the group? Come on! I know there are at least a couple of former Boomers considering it!

BTW, I emailed back and forth with Libster recently. She won't be joining us this round because her plate is full right now. She says to say she misses us all this time but she'll stop in and say hello.

hav4boys 04-30-2021 12:11 PM

I would love to sign up twice as I have two awesome fabrics ready to go!!!!

hav4boys 04-30-2021 12:13 PM

I have the perfect plan for this fabric. I am so excited to get going.

And, tahdah, here is my BOOM 26 fabric designed to drive you all crazy while I get a patriotic President's Day quilt made, thanks to you all! I have no color restrictions. Be as creative with colors or patterns as you want. George Bush (the younger) is the last president on this particular fabric. My favorite, of the ones that are from my memories is Jimmy Carter because he was always very diplomatic and a gentleman and loved the natural environment. I know he couldn't get the economy under control, but his core values were and are the ideals I strive to duplicate. I'm glad he is still around to inspire me.

hav4boys 04-30-2021 12:14 PM

OI posted it in the secret pal swap too. Hoping for a few more but I love making blocks, even if they are duplicates.

Janice McC 04-30-2021 02:55 PM

Sounds good. Thanks.

Ok, Boomers! We're just about set to go with a single 3 month group. We have 15 people, including two working as a team, and two confirmed (Hav4boys and JayneW) who want to essentially sign up twice to make and receive twice as many blocks as everyone else. Anybody wishing to do the same, please let me know.

Tomorrow I'm going to send out an email with the swap dates and info along with my address so you can begin sending me your F8s next week. Everyone will send me 19 F8s and I will distribute them and you will each make 19 blocks. You'll send me your completed blocks before the final due date and I'll distribute the blocks back to their owners. Easy peasy! When you get the email, please be sure you fully understand the rules about the fabric. (You will find that in post number one of this thread.) Please be sure to put your fabric requests (if you have any) in your baggies and make certain you've labeled your baggie with your board name (the name you are called on this thread, not your legal name). Remember when you send me your F8s, please send along a pre-paid USPS padded forever envelope, a pre-paid label or you may send me $8.55 for shipping. Whatever is easiest for you. All shipping costs are your responsibility. I'm sure I've forgotten something in this post but the email will be complete. When you get it, please hit "reply" so I know you've received it and agree with the rules. :)

Anyone with any questions, please don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks!!! I look forward to getting this swap going! Happy weekend, Boomers!

If you have selected your fabric and you'd like me to add it to the gallery, post a pic here. I will grab it and add it. It's helpful to have pix of all the fabrics in one place in case your fabric inadvertently gets misplaced from your baggie. The Boom 26 gallery is in the works and will be up and running by the time you get you receive the F8s from me.

marcialee 05-02-2021 06:41 AM

I have assorted 19 pieces so it would be hard to post a picture of it all. It all Christmas prints.

You could take a picture like sewbizgirl did https://boomerangswaps.weebly.com/up...5/sbg_orig.jpg

Marcialee -- yay for christmas quilts!

Kristijoy -- what do you want as your end theme on those three fabrics? I need to put on my thinking cap.

Travelinggramma - those are great ideas for the President's Day quilt! Regular old patterns work for this fabric, too, cause it makes the block look scrappy. The 12" winding way pattern is driving me crazy. My printer only prints 11 x 8.5" paper. The patterns are 12" on the smallest side. I'm going to have to fiddle. I may even have to buy the editable version of Adobe so I can flip the pattern around for half a page at a time. I could also shrink the pattern and then add a border all around to make the block 12.5".

Have4boys - can't wait to see your magic! I also can't wait to see your fabrics.

Happy Sunday everyone! Especially to the BOOM newbies! You're going to love this group of creative quilters.

This is the blurb I'm working on for the dark gray and floral print:
Hi Quilting Friends!

For this quilt think cheerful! Pair this fabric with coordinating brights like solids, blenders, or tonals and a white background.

Have fun! Joy,

Kristi

Does that help? Or should I come up with more descriptive words?

Sounds good and gives me ideas to pull my brights out.

Kristi, that works for me, too! Thank you!

Good morning, Boomers. I'm delayed writing the email. I lost most of yesterday to miserable hay fever but it's much better this morning so I should send it out in the next hour or so. Remember to read it and hit reply so I know you've received it and I've properly added your email addresses to Outlook. Thank you!

Also, since this is Boom 26, and there are 26 letters in the English alphabet, I'm going with Zinnias as the group name. Z for the 26th letter. Later, Zinnias!

Janice McC 05-03-2021 05:22 AM

Me, again. The email went out and I've gotten no bounce backs so I hope all emails will be received. If not, please check your spam folder first to make sure it didn't end up there, then let me know.

We've got rain today so I plan to retreat to my quilting room and make more of my BH Carolina Chain blocks. I just started and heaven knows it will take me a decade to finish them. LOL. Have a great week!

Zinnias is a great name! Not only because it starts with the letter Z but because zinnias come in lots of variations in size and color and we have a huge variety of personalities and come from everywhere! https://www.cappersfarmer.com/yard-a...s-zm0z20sznad/

Good name choice, Janice!

Janice McC 05-03-2021 06:40 AM

Ibex94, glad you like the name.

A couple of packages are already on their way! Woo hoo!

Here are my fabrics.

Fabric 1 - Toys

Please have fun and make a vibrant block. Please use red, green, blue, yellow, orange, and black. Please do not use any white unless paper piecing and you need a bit for a design. I want the quilt to be bright. Please use solid material that match the colors in the fabric.

Fabric 2 - Gray with Flowers

Have fun and make a block using the following colors in the fabric (mint green, pink, fuchsia, yellow, and white. Please use solids, blenders, or tone-on-tone. Please do not use any black or any shade of gray.

I cannot wait to get your fabric. I love this BOOM.

sewbizgirl 05-03-2021 10:09 AM

Zinnias is a cute name for this time of year.

Hav, love your Fisher Price fabric!

annt59 05-03-2021 10:08 PM

I am still considering my fabric. I love the name Zinnias.

Janice McC 05-04-2021 03:38 AM

Good morning, Zinnias!

Hope everyone has gotten my email. I’ve heard from about half of you. If you have not replied to my email, please do so today.

Several packages of f8s are already on the way. They’ll start arriving tomorrow or Thursday. It’s always so much fun to receive them and look at all the lovely fabrics you’ve selected.

Since we are one group this round, we’ll just stick with this thread through the whole swap. Continue posting your pix and comments here for the sake of ease.

Reminder, your F8s should be no smaller than 18 by 10 and that is without any selvage. Please be sure to put your board name on each baggie, clearly enough so these old eyes can read it clearly.

Thats it for now. We’ve got a break in the storms this morning so the pup needs her walk. Have a pleasant day!

ibex94 05-04-2021 04:30 AM

Hav4boys -- loving your fabrics and the ideas my brain is popping out at me. I hope I have time to cut fabric today! My father and I are babysitting my grandson who needed an umbilical hernia repair. He's a a typical rough and tumble boy at 3 years old and we don't want him in daycare, yet. Since I normally don't get to see him much, this is a major bit of fun for me but he needs 100% eyes on to keep him from overextending himself.

Big storms expected today. This may be our last cold front of the year. Yesterday in central Mississippi was hot and muggy. I could not stay outside for long.

My body has developed an intolerance to hot and muggy, like my grandmother had. Anyone have a solution besides wet handkerchiefs around the neck and lots of cold beverages?

Janice McC 05-04-2021 04:47 AM

Ibex, when my sister was about 2 years old, she had a double hernia repaired. I remember two things about it. One, she was terrified of getting her “strings” - stitches - wet in the tub. And two, my mother about died when sis started doing head stands just a few days after surgery. I can still see sis with her head, hands and feet planted on the ground and mom having a fit. Lol. Thanks for triggering those funny memories!

sewbizgirl 05-04-2021 08:11 AM

Ibex,
since you and I share the same climate, I thought I’d tell you how the Mississippi hot muggy weather works for me. At the beginning of every summer I think I’m gonna die from the heat, but as the days go on I get more and more used to it. For me, the trick is staying out in it as long as I can so I get used to it faster. Eventually it doesn’t bother me at all.
