Quick fyi, that my internet keeps dropping out so I cannot make changes and additions to the gallery. As soon as I can update it, I will.

Have a pleasant evening.

Thank you, Terri...

AnnT, lovely blocks. I really like the Presidential Star. Thank you for finishing up the swap!

ibex94 08-22-2021 03:00 PM

Annt59 -- LOVE my block. Another amazing President block. Thank you!!! I like your Michigan State blocks, too. You are one creative BOOMer!

JayneW 08-22-2021 05:50 PM

Annt! Two awesome MSU blocks! Thank you.

Janice McC 08-23-2021 03:56 AM

Good morning Zinnias! Well, I think I've got all the blocks in the gallery now. Internet remains spotty but it cooperated this morning. Looks like I'll have another couple of weeks of this then all should be well. I believe we only need 3 more packages to come iin and then I can start the sort and get your blocks to you.

Hope you all had a pleasant weekend.

Thank you for the gallery! It cannot be easy trying to set it up while the internet comes and goes....

Janice McC 08-23-2021 02:11 PM

You are welcome. :) It's frequently not bad but why the internet is so spotty some days and others good is beyond me.

Good morning, Zinnias. Nelco’s package is on the way. It’s not due here until Monday so it must be going by way of the Arctic. Two day shipping isn’t two day any longer.

Our old house is almost ready to go on the market. Thank goodness. Another week or two and we should be all set to sell.

Hope you all are planning a pleasant weekend.

Coffee’s up. I’m off.

juliasb 08-26-2021 07:46 AM

I am getting so excited. This is the point where I begin to hold my breath is anticipation.

ibex94 08-26-2021 02:33 PM

I have been pulling up Janice's gallery to show the grandkids and kids the beautiful blocks you all made me. We're already having fun trying to figure out which picture goes to which president. Gosh they are beautiful. Thank you everyone! I know this fabric could not have been easy to play with but you all made my fabric gorgeous!!

I think your president quilt is going to be the best in the group!

Great job getting your house ready! My sister just purchased a new home and they have a lot of work to do to get the old house ready. They are in a very sought after neighborhood though, so I think it will be snapped up, I think it just depends on how much it goes for!

kristijoy 08-27-2021 03:07 PM

Just popping in to say Hi! We started our 9th grade year 3 weeks ago and things are going well. My husband is taking on a couple of the big heavy lifting classes (like Latin) which has really helped me out. There is still plenty for me to do with Language Arts, Science and all the record keeping!) My son is 'rising to the challenge' of High school, which is awesome to see.

We head out on another RV trip on September 11. We will take school with us (except Chemistry.) Homeschooling is awesome for travel experiences! This time to the Southwest. We are really looking forward to being on the road again. It's fun to get everything ready. I haven't worked on any sewing projects in a few weeks because I didn't want to start something new or mess up my sewing room! LOL!

I did purchase some fun yarn to crochet a shawl while we on on the road...yarn and a crochet hook doesn't take up too much space! It's also a nice repetitive motion, so it will be perfect while we are just 'hanging out' at the campsite.

ibex94 08-27-2021 05:26 PM

Have a fun trip, Kristijoy!

Janice McC 08-28-2021 03:09 AM

Have a fun, educational and safe trip, Kristijoy.

Nelco’s package arrived yesterday quite unexpectedly so all blocks are in. I will ship sometime next week. I’ll let you know when as soon as I do.

have a lovely weekend, Zinnias.

mjpEncinitas 08-28-2021 06:05 AM

Kristi, your trip sounds like a dream. We’ve done a lot of trips through the Southwest in our van. You can hop from one national park/monument to another. That was back before you needed reservations due to Covid. If was raining too hard we would just leave the next day! Are you doing a blog? I’d love to live vicariously through you!

i always brought a crazy quilt to work on. Hopefully the parks aren’t as crowded now that school is back in session. What a fun adventure.

i homeschooled two of my kids 6-8 grade. We used the Great Courses for history. One of my kids would draw while he was listening to the class. He went to college for fine arts. My sister who taught junior high told me just keep him on track for math, the rest they repeat in high school anyway. We did some interesting subjects. I swapped teaching math for English with an adjunct professor. She got the two boys interested in Shakespeare by teaching them the naughty bits. Three families read Macbeth together. I got to be a one of the three witches in the beginning. Then my son and I read the funny Macbeth satire by Terry Pratchett. We had a lot of fun that year. The son of the adjunct had a lot of challenges with math. I sent both boys out to the trampoline and my son would quiz him on multiplication facts. When he learned pre- algebra there were a lot of problems about elves, dwarves and swords. I hope you enjoy your homeschooling as much as we did.

Janice I’m excited about getting the blocks. I’m mentoring another student in addition to stpclaws and I’m going to suggest we do our own mini swap over the next few months.

sewbizgirl 08-28-2021 08:26 AM

How exciting that the blocks are all in. Looking forward to getting mine back. This may be my last Boom swap for a while so I'll enjoy playing with the blocks.

We are bracing for Hurricane Ida. Everyone is filling up their gas tanks and buying all the bread and toilet paper off the shelves. It's so similar to Katrina back in 2005, which devastated our state, that we are taking it seriously. Then we were without power for 12 days, and no water for about 8. Hubby has the generator ready.

ibex94 08-28-2021 12:54 PM

We should have bought a generator.... New Orleans evacuees arriving shortly. We are going to get slammed here. Stay safe, sewbizgirl! Hurricane party with card games at my house if you want to come over tonight before the storm hits...

I'm glad the boom blocks are not yet in the mail. Maybe the post office won't lose them because of the hurricane! All incoming mail to central MS will be kept somewhere safe.

Janice -- is your new home on the path? You'll just get rain where you're at..

sewbizgirl 08-28-2021 05:23 PM

Sounds like it's going to be a fun night at your house, Ibex! We called the uncle in LA to invite him to come (tho our weather may be worse than his) and found out he has covid! He got the shots, too. He sounded in good spirits, just was coughing his head off. So he's staying home. He's near Beaumont TX so the storm should be traveling away from him (and towards us!)

So far, no signs of bad weather coming. Not even wind.

ibex94 08-28-2021 05:28 PM

I am hoping for a normal storm. It is good to hear them downgrading the storm on the weatherchannel but other online hurricane watchers have them expecting a much smaller hurricane when it lands. All of them say by the time it gets to central MS it will be a normal storm. Are hurricanes truly normal? I have my hand quilting to work on so I'm ready. Lots of water on hand, too, so I'm set. Oh, and cookies. Must have cookies when hurricanes hit.

ibex94 08-28-2021 05:31 PM

I do have a story to tell. I bought a sewing machine with the moniker "Wanamaker". Juana had to have a Wanamaker. Who knows if I can get it restored but it makes sense for me to have one. Wanamaker is a department store in Philadelphia. The machine is a treadle with a shuttle bobbin. Either National or Davis produced it. The research continues.

sewbizgirl 08-28-2021 05:37 PM

LOL, you found the perfect machine for you, Juana!

terriamn 08-29-2021 05:51 AM

Ladies I hope you are all safe from this massive hurricane. Lots of storms all across Minnesota but nothing compared to what they are forecasting for your storm.

Tomorrow is closing day

juliasb 08-29-2021 07:13 AM

My mother passed away Saturday Morning. My sister was with her. I am doing ok right now it just feels a bit odd. This made the loss of 3 family members for the month of August. It can stop now. Hospice was great.
I have a block sitting on my cutting table that I started to put together the beginning of the month and it is still sitting there. Maybe in a few days I can get back to sewing it together.

bibliostone 08-29-2021 07:23 AM

Juliasb, you are in my prayers. Losing loved ones so close together can really throw you and make it hard to carry on. But, brighter days will come again so hang in there and take care of yourself.

ibex94 08-29-2021 07:31 AM

Juliasb -- I am so sorry for your loss. Hugs and prayers for you and your sister and all your family. As bibliostone said, be kind to yourself as you grieve. Be sure to eat well and drink lots of water. The piecing will be there when you are ready for it. I hope you can find comfort knowing that your loved ones are free from Earthly cares. Their love stays with you and they left knowing you loved them.

ibex94 08-29-2021 07:35 AM

Terriamn -- yay to the closing! Aug 29 will be a positive date for you and that is a good thing! I will toast to your closing at today's extension of the hurricane party.

BTW, all is calm in central MS right now. If we were in any danger, I'd be outta here by now. It will be a tropical storm and I love all weather events so it will be exciting tomorrow. Watching the storm work its way inland is appealing to the geographer in me.

sewbizgirl 08-29-2021 09:19 AM

Yeah... no storm yet up here in central MS. The dog is really weather sensitive, and he's hunkered down in fear. He must feel a change in barometric pressure or something.

This is the bargello I've been making, while waiting for Boom blocks to come home. It's my first bargello. All batiks.

ibex94 08-29-2021 09:41 AM

That is a stunner, sewbizgirl! You may not be able to let this one go.

Julia, huge condolences on your loss of your mother. Sorry also about the other family members lost so recently. Thinking of you!

Janice McC 08-29-2021 02:53 PM

Juliasb, you have my condolences on the death of your mother. I can only imagine how terrible this month has been for you. Please take care of yourself. Your Boom Friends are thinking of you. Hugs.
