I plan to ship blocks tomorrow, oddly enough from the GA post office as I’ll be down there for the day. I have yet to see the house completed, other than a cleaning, so in the morning I’ll go there as well as have a visit with my dentist. (A great guy but this will probably be the last visit there I suppose.) I won’t be shipping the regular way I do it since the computer printer is out of order, naturally. I’ll get your tracking numbers at the post office tomorrow and email them to you prob on Tuesday.

Hope those of you in or near the path of Ida take all precautions. We’re going to get rain and some wind but that should be the extent of it.

Take care everyone!

ibex94 08-30-2021 05:40 AM

Central MS has been blessed with light rain and light wind with occasional gusts. All good so far here. Temperatures are in the 70s so I can sit in our garage and watch the weather and birds and squirrels. Yay!! Storm continues to weaken.

Have fun visiting your "old" house, Janice! If you love your dentist, you can always go back there. How much of a drive do you have to go through between the two places? Thank you for the update on the packages!

mjpEncinitas 08-30-2021 06:25 AM

Weirdly, we had a thunderstorm here in San Diego. Very very unusual for the summer. First time in 30 years. we need to stay out of the ocean for a few days due to runoff For all those n the midst of big storms stay safe!

Janice McC 08-30-2021 06:52 AM

Well, your packages were shipped! Woo hoo.

mjp, my first thunderstorm in SD, probably 1981, was in December. I remember Christmas shopping and the skies lighting up. Very unexpected!

ibex, I’m at the dentist now but I don’t think I have it in me to make the 180 mile trek each way again. A bit too far! Lol.

Have a pleasant day!

sewbizgirl 08-30-2021 08:13 AM

Storm has knocked our power out. I’m sure there are trees down on the lines, as the ground is completely saturated. It’s raining and will continue to do so all day. It would be a lot more fun to be home if the power was restored.

Hubby has perishable insulin in the refrigerator. He has the generator running but something is wrong with it and it’s not putting out power. Always something…

We are alive tho, and thankful things aren’t worse here.

Janice McC 08-30-2021 08:48 AM

SBG, stay safe and well. . I hope the generator starts working while the power is out.

sewbizgirl 08-30-2021 07:02 PM

Thank you… generator started working! After it ran a while it started to finally put out power. We think it was wet inside and needed to dry out.

No word yet on when our power lines will be fixed! Soon, I hope.

Looking forward to the book blocks coming home….

sewbizgirl 08-30-2021 07:03 PM

Er… boom blocks, not book blocks. Sometimes auto correct drives me crazy!

terriamn 08-31-2021 03:06 AM

Sewbiz sure hope your power is restored quickly, wonder if Ibex still has power?

Janice we are only about 60 miles from house in the cities and that gets to be a long jaunt, 180 miles is long ways to go to dentist etc.

We closed on new house yesterday and with the help of friends made 4 trips to the storage locker, all my sewing machines are now in the garage at new house. Movers arrive at 8AM to move second storage unit filled with furniture, then a different set of friends will arrive around noon to help set up beds and kitchen then go back to storage units to empty the Original locker. We rented that locker for a year and don’t understand the rush to empty it

Can’t wait for the blocks to arrive.

klaws 08-31-2021 05:23 AM

Julia, so sorry to hear about your mom. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
Sewbiz, I love your bargello. I have yet to attempt to make one. That is on my bucket list.
Everyone in the path of the storm, please stay safe.
I spent 4 days with my 15 yr old DGS while my son went out of town. What an experience! We had a good time but I'm too old to handle a teenager. Those days are long gone.
Looking forward to receiving my blocks back. I hope the weather doesn't hinder everyone receiving their package.

Janice McC 08-31-2021 06:03 AM

Good morning, all. We had one round of rain this morning but lots more is coming. You know that saying, “red skies at morning, sailors take warning, etc.”, well we had a very red sky this am so I hope it’s not too bad here. Certainly it will be nothing like the Gulf Coast states have gotten.

It has taken nearly 30 minutes to get this far in my post thanks to our connection so I’ll send tracking info as I can.

Terriamn, happy to hear your house closed and you’re moving swiftly to get in. Congrats!

I’m off to make hummingbird nectar. Our little guys power through it so fast here.

Be safe everyone!

Bargello all done! It was fun and not that hard, if you can follow a chart.

sewbizgirl 08-31-2021 11:06 AM

It looks so 3-D. Like a well you could fall into...

Our weather is beautiful today, minus all the tree debris on the ground. The elec. company got power back on this morning, so we are happy.

Janice McC 08-31-2021 11:09 AM

Tracking numbers

Hi Zinnias. Your tracking numbers have been sent to your pm boxes. Terriamn, in my haste yesterday, I didn't write down your previously supplied tracking number so I do hope you have it. Klaws, I know you have yours.

Yes I have mine. Thank you Janice!

Janice McC 09-01-2021 06:24 AM

Hi, Zinnias! Packages should begin arriving today. When you receive yours, please let me know. A post here would be terrific. Thank you!

Also, my email address will be changing in about 30 days. Anyone needing to get in touch with me after that, just pm me.

terriamn 09-01-2021 07:44 AM

Sewbiz love love your bragello. It is high on my list of to do’s. Glad you are having nice weather.

Closing was quick and all went well. 3 of our friends helped us bring lots of boxes from first storage locker on Monday, Moving van came with 4 young, funny and energetic young men who were great to work with. More friends came over and Most of the furniture is in house but we still need to do more downsizing and will probably be going through boxes for a long time to come. Beds were made and bathrooms set up so we are ready to rock and roll

mjpEncinitas 09-01-2021 08:04 AM

Congrats Terriamn. It sounds like a successful move. It must feel good to be in your new home. A new adventure!

Janice McC 09-01-2021 08:20 AM

Terriamn, it sounds like you had as smooth a move as can be hoped for! Congratulations! Enjoy your new home.

mjpEncinitas 09-01-2021 02:00 PM

My blocks arrived! I’m usually one of the last two get them. With the fabric you sent back I’ll be able to make a few more blocks. It will be a housewarming gift for my ‘German girl’ tennis partner.

sewbizgirl 09-01-2021 05:27 PM

Terri, congrats on getting closed and settling into the new house! Hope there are going to be many happy days ahead in your new home.

hav4boys 09-01-2021 05:47 PM

Janice McC 09-02-2021 03:45 AM

Am very happy to hear blocks are arriving and you are happy with them!

It's a cool, clear NC morning. Might be nice enough to keep the house open all day. Wouldn't that be a pleasure!

Enjoy your day everyone. The weekend is almost here!

terriamn 09-02-2021 05:21 AM

Thanks everyone, it’s wonderful to be in the house. Can’t wait for my package to arrive

ibex94 09-02-2021 07:50 AM

Gorgeous quilt Sewbizgirl!! I love how it shimmers. Reminds me of the Navajo blankets that are prized for their shimmering. Did you pick the colors?

Terriamn, Congrats on your new house and getting moved into it so quickly! Yay for the fast paperwork, too.

Thank you, Janice for the tracking numbers and coordinating this exchange. We are all so excited with anticipation! You did good, girl. :-)

mjpEncintas -- I am looking forward to seeing your finished product. Lucky friend of yours!

Have a great week everyone!

juliasb 09-02-2021 11:22 AM

Janice McC 09-03-2021 02:17 AM

This is grand! Blocks are arriving a little sooner than I expected. Woo hoo!

annt59 09-03-2021 10:18 AM

Mine came really fast.

JayneW 09-03-2021 11:10 AM

My blocks arrived yesterday! Janice, as always thank you for being the best! Just for planning reasons, when are you thinking the next boom will be?! 😁😁

We are headed out camping for the weekend in our little teardrop camper, we’ve been so busy all summer we haven’t camped since April! I have a book I’m dying to read, a quilt to bind, my paddle board, hiking boots and fishing pole!! AND my boom box to unpack!

Julia, so sorry about your loss. My mom passed 10 years ago and I still reach for the phone to tell her things. I hope you have great memories to carry you through.

Kristi- your road trip sounds awesome and MJP I loved your homeschooling stories! Can’t wait for our next lunch. Sewbiz, amazing bargello! I made one a few years ago and thought it was a fun project. Your colors are stunning.

Janice and Terri, moving…. Exciting and exhausting!

I know there were other comments I had but I’ve now forgotten. Can’t wait to start seeing completed quilts with boom blocks!!

be safe my friends!!!

terriamn 09-03-2021 12:44 PM

My blocks arrived yesterday. Still haven’t had a chance to even open package.

When I say we are in house and the furniture is in and bedrooms are set up believe me that doesn’t mean we are all moved In. there is still a garage full of boxes. The metal shelving for the sewing overflow room arrives Tuesday and we can start filling those shelves. Haven’t heard anything on the main sewing room new floor yet. The nice thing is the containers of fabric can just sit in the garage, they are all in sealed plastic bins

sewbizgirl 09-03-2021 12:46 PM

Yay, my blocks arrived today! They are so pretty in person! Now I can make a couple of nice lap quilts from them. At least half of them had no names.... https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wave.gif

We are closing on the Memphis house and moving at the end of the month. The previous owner is taking the refrigerator and washer and dryer. So I've been shopping for those and have *sticker shock*! Hope I can find some good used ones.

Thanks again, everyone, for your lovely blocks. Alice, I love the little name tags you used!

mjpEncinitas 09-03-2021 02:34 PM

Congrats Sewbiz. The appliances are expensive and a long wait!

kristijoy 09-03-2021 05:25 PM

Woo-hoo! Blocks are here! You all are awesome. Thank you so much for welcoming me into your sewing adventure. It's been fun to hang out with you. We have a 3 month RV trip planned this fall, so I probably won't be able to participate in the next one. I will pop in though and drool over your beauties!

ibex94 09-03-2021 05:48 PM

Funny story to share.... My brother in law is up here having evacuated from New Orleans and is still waiting for the electricity so he can get home. He asked me what I was going to do with all my fabric. I had to move it into the garage and boxes of it line one of the walls. I told him that when I retire I am finally going to get to make all the quilts I've been dreaming of making. His response was there are other things to do after being retired that will keep me busy. I want to retire and find out! Hugs to all.

Nelco 09-03-2021 07:15 PM

My blocks came today, I am away for the weekend but sister got them for me. Can't wait to see all of them in person.
thank you Janice for hosting the boom and welcome to your new home.
