CHICKEN BLOCK SWAP – Open to US, Canada and the rest of the world!

Show us your creative edge by sending out 12 1/2 inch UNFINISHED CHICKEN blocks. These can be appliqué, pieced, embellished, or whatever you want. Fabric should be washed, dried and ironed. Please send what you want to receive. Please consider prewashing a social obligation and courtesy to any who may have allergies and or live in smoke and animal free environments. Please use 100% cotton.

I have been told to set a specific number of blocks so there are no problems. So, this will be a 6 or 12 block exchange, and send them to me along with a self addressed, stamped envelope for return postage... whatever it cost to send it to me, it will cost to return your blocks to you...so be sure to put enough postage on your envelope. If you are out of the country, I will be happy to coordinate US mailing rates – you can send the funds to cover the postage and I’ll take care of it at the post office. When you are ready to send them to me, please pm me and I'll give you my address.

I will send you back an assortment of chicken blocks and you will get the same quantity you sent.

Please mark EACH ONE of your blocks with a little slip of paper pinned to it or a sticky label with your message board id and if you want to, your real name. It is nice to know who made the blocks in your quilt.

Mail your blocks to me by October 15, 2009.

I will mail them back out by October 31, 2009 or as close to that as possible.

If you want to post what block you are making, we can try to keep them all as different as possible. Let's keep each other motivated to make the deadline and have lots of participants!
Bok-BAAAAAwk, let’s have fun!!

MsSage 07-24-2009 12:44 PM

do you have to sign up or can you just join at the last min if you have enough blocks to send?

bearpaw 07-25-2009 07:34 AM

I'm really thinking about this one! Everyone's chicken quilts were so cute.
I'll let you know!

tlrnhi 07-25-2009 07:45 AM

Hmmmm......thinking, thinking.......do I dare?
I'll think some more. I have time......

patricej 07-25-2009 08:57 AM

so, how often does the chicken have to cross the road? 6 blocks? or 12?

Debra Mc 07-25-2009 05:21 PM

Why is the other site for this locked? I don't understand.

sandpat 07-25-2009 05:39 PM

Hmmmm....I really want to do this..but not sure I can with that deadline...hmmmmm thinking...

patricej 07-25-2009 11:04 PM

the other topic is locked so people will flock to this one.

Debra Mc 07-26-2009 08:20 AM

OK. I wasn't sure. Thanks. When will we start?

kwhite 07-26-2009 08:40 AM

Ok so no one wants to be the first into the water. I will be. I'm IN for 6.

Esqmommy 07-26-2009 09:04 AM

You can start now, and I will collect and hold until 10/15. At that time, I'll make the distributions to everyone. Some folks have signed up but not indicated on this thread that they are doing it. So....I'll put out a list so you can see who's in so far, but will probably do that a little later this week.

Butterflyspain 07-26-2009 11:02 AM

I really would like to but have to bow out this time. Perhaps another one later.

I am in for Chicken blocks. Cher

tslowery 07-26-2009 07:27 PM

Cher I used to have a dog his name was Bandit that looked just like yours. Wonderful memories flooded when I saw your avatar. I would love to do the chicken block swap but I will have to think alittle longer...

amma 07-27-2009 09:45 PM

If I sign up for 12 blocks, do I have to make them all the same? Can they be 12 different chicken blocks or 2 sets of 6 that are the same? I found a pattern that has 12 different designs. I can do it whatever way works best for the swap

k3n 07-28-2009 12:29 AM

I'm sorry but I'm going to 'chicken out' of this one - too much happening - maybe next time! :D

JRSAY 07-28-2009 04:30 AM

Barbm 07-28-2009 04:52 AM

This is an awesome swap but after thinking of my level of expertise (2 times at applique) I will pass on this swap. Will be watching to see what I am missing. :(

cheriffic 07-28-2009 04:58 AM

Chicken blocks always make me smile out loud :!: I'm thinking on it . . . would love to do it . . . don't know yet if time permits. Is there a deadline to commit?

Jen

cheriffic 07-28-2009 12:51 PM

LindaR 07-29-2009 05:05 AM

I am going to be doing the brood chicken on fatcatpatterns.com. can I get started????

Esqmommy 07-29-2009 05:51 AM

Get going whenever you would like. I'm still pulling the list together, and we have until 10/15/09 to get your blocks to me. Send me a PM indicating your interest in the swap, and how many blocks you want to exchange. I will then PM you back with my addess.

Thanks!!

You can do whatever you like - it's up to you Amma!! If you want to do 12 different blocks, that's totally fine, or equally, 12 of the same blocks! Quilter's Choice!!

Hope you decide to join in!

sewjoyce 07-29-2009 05:59 AM

OK, hijacking this thread for just a moment -- This is what my grandson (age 9) asked me yesterday:

Why did the rooster cross the road??

The chicken was on vacation.....

I would love to sign up for these but am afraid I'd be stretching myself too thin -- have lots of stuff I have to finish before October. Maybe next time :D

JRSAY 07-29-2009 06:02 AM

Cheers,
Are we just doing chickens and not roosters???
I will get 6 or maybe a whole cackling dozen.
hugs :D

If you have the time and inclination you might want to give it a try. you can use fusing. It doesn't have to be turned applique. I am quite sure I will not be doing turned unless I can get the hang of the soluble thread turning method.

Esqmommy 07-29-2009 06:27 AM

I don't have any problem with including roosters in the chix...if someone has an objection, speak now or forever hold your piece (lol)!!

cheriffic 07-29-2009 08:37 AM

I like roosters too I do not mind

Debra Mc 07-29-2009 08:46 AM

For all you city folk. Chickens are hens & roosters just cattle are cows, bulls & heifers & calves. This is gonna be fun. Can't wait.

amma 07-29-2009 01:06 PM

So, it can be chicken hens and roosters??? I want to make sure I am clear on everything....

cheriffic 07-29-2009 01:37 PM

ROTFL :D I should have noticed that I own chickens hee hee  Oh well silly is as silly does Cher

Debra Mc 07-29-2009 01:45 PM

i WAS JUST BEING SILLY. I ASSUMED THAT IT MEANT ROOSTERS & HENS. I EVEN HAVE SOME CUTE CHICK APPLIQUES. I DIDN'T CHECK KEY BOARD 1ST. DS HAS BEEN ON COMPUTER & HE HATES TO SHIFT. i DIDN'T WANT TO RETYPE SO IT IS IN ALL CAPS. i HEARD THAT IS SUPPOSE TO BE RUDE OR SHOW INTENT.

imjustme 07-29-2009 01:52 PM

Can someone post a few pictures of what they are suppose to look like? I think I want to do this, but am not sure I am able. Would like to see an example.
thanks
