How exciting for you!

I wouldn't mind teaching a few young people in my area to sew and quilt,
but I am afraid that my basic sewing does include clothing as I am self-taught
and everything I know about quilting I learned from watching tv (Alex Anderson)
or on the internet.

Not to mention young people in my area just don't seem to have an interest
in learning something fun like quilting. I know this because I took out an ad in
a local Middle & High School papers, plus posted message on bulletin boards
at many local places like the grocery store, rec center, etc.

Good luck and hope you will post some of your students completed projects
(with their permission of course).

Thanks for the invite reminder......Sign me up for 2 ornaments.
I've been alittle busy this past couple months as to why I haven't been on much. I started teaching FCS at an area public school. I am teaching FCS to 7th-12th grade after the retirement of a 33 year Home Ec/FCS teacher. Hired the week before school, so I have been working on Lessons plans/Modules and units for my classes. And I know some my ask if I am adding quilting to my curriculum, YOU BETCHA!!! and my students are excited. Yeh me!!

I have also included a week or so to homemade items for gift giving - so you can bet Christmas ornaments will also me included in this section.

Just to excited..................

I'm really going to miss this swap this year. I'll be watching though. I have to have some extensive back surgery done and it is iffy on the recovery time so I just can't commit to this right now. Don't know how much sewing I will be able to do and the wood shop will be totally out of the question. I will be checking and seeing all the wonderful items you all are making.

kiffie2413 09-30-2013 01:59 AM

Jaba,
Hope your surgery goes smoothly, and that your recovery is quick! Sometimes we just have to stop and take a break to make sure we can keep on keeping on...
Regards,
Kif

jaba 09-30-2013 04:59 AM

Thanks kiffie, they will do X-rays this Friday and possibly another MRI, then I will know surgery date for sure. I've put this off for a very long time and now my time is up. It's the recovery part I hate the most, like everyone else.

mooretll 09-30-2013 11:00 AM

Thanks Mary

jaba take care I will be thinking of you. went thru back surgery myself a few years ago and it is not fun! I feel great now and had to have it so just think how much better you will feel.

Grandma Di 09-30-2013 01:42 PM

I've just sent in my PM, This is my first year. I have a few made up already. Every year the grandkids get a new homemade ornament. This started with my mother and mother-in-law. When the kids moved out my tree looked very bare. I really don't care much for factory manufactured ornaments.

mdall 09-30-2013 02:38 PM

I'm in again. Loved this swap last year and already have some ideas, now to get to the store. Sending PM now.

jaba 09-30-2013 04:43 PM

Thanks Linda, appreciate your thoughts more than you know. I'm not looking forward to this at all, but it's a have to sort of thing.

The sewing machine is only about 3 1/2"s long the snowman is about 4" tall.I should have reduced the picture more but I was afraid it would be too small to see any detail. Thanks for all the nice comments.love ya too sis Mary

I've already posted mine. Hope everyone likes them!

kiffie2413 10-02-2013 03:30 PM

Loving all the ornaments!
All you "lurkers" sign up already!! This is a great swap...and so easy! Homemade doesn't have to entail quilting, fabric, sewing, etc...though homemade ornys made with those items/techniques are always awesome and welcome, too! Get your kiddoes involved! Get your parents involved! Heck, get your pets involved..most pet pics posted on here show that they are interested in everything you make anyways, so put them to work! ;) While you're having the best time ever, make a few extras..some to keep, some to give as presents. See, now you can feel really great knowing you have your Holiday gift items underway..and BEFORE Halloween!! I know how it is to lurk.. I have been a pro at it in the past...now I am just the gal who talks, ALOT... So stop lurking, and start talking! Or at least pm our terrific leader Brenda and sign up!
Kif
PS Lawsonmugs, I would promise to be quiet, yes me..be quiet..if that lil sewing machine orny found its way to me.. Bribery? Absolutely! A gals gotta do what a gals gotta do!
Or maybe you have considered selling a pattern for it? If so, I would love to buy it!

owlvamp 10-02-2013 04:43 PM

I agree kiffie2413. I would a couple of the bigger ones to in the sewing machine. I love those and my sister would also. One to put by the sewing machine for pin cushion and one to put on the tree. Hint! Hint? :)
