DOLL QUILT SWAP #51 - NOV & DEC 2013 combined into one

Doll Quilt Swap # 51 - November and December 2013 combined...

Theme: Mystery Suprise!!
You can surprise you partner totally or you and her and decide on a theme and then surprise them with that! You have your choice of what to do this month. We all have so much going on in our lives in the next couple of months so we are combining NOV and DEC into one swap with extended dates. SO PLEASE READ BELOW TO CHECK DEADLINES....

As always, rules for this swap also agree with the general guidelines for all Quilt Board Swaps – Read here RULES FOR SWAPS AND SIMILAR ACTIVITIES - Updated 8 December 2010

You know the drill …
SIGN UP: Easy As 1-2-3 – 4

  1. To join the fun, just send me a PM no later than 5PM (EST) on NOVEMBER 4TH, 2013 please put NOV/DEC sign up in the subject line.
  2. Please let me know whether you are able to swap internationally as we have a few members who are outside the USA.
  3. You will not be able to sign up if you have any outstanding quilts from previous months – except for the current month.
  4. Let me know you have read the guidelines and make sure your QB mailbox isn’t full.
  5. HELP YOUR HOSTESS KEEP TRACK: When you mail off your quilt, please send me a PM. Also send one when you receive a quilt you’re your partner. This will help me keep track and to ensure that everyone receives a quilt.

Partner Assignment: Partners will be assigned on Nov 5th. Bookmark this thread for partner assignment – or find your partner at our Group Home here http://www.quiltingboard.com/groups/...group-g14.html

Mailing Deadline: You must have your quilt in the mail no later than Dec 14th, 2013. If you do not think you can meet that deadline, you might want to wait a month or two until your schedule frees up and you don’t feel pressured.

DOLL QUILT SWAP GUIDELINES

SIZE: Doll quilts can be between 12”x12” to 24”x24” or any size or shape in between. If your finished quilt measures 24" x 26", or 11" x 13" it's fine. No worries or excessive rules for this swap.

MATERIALS: Most participants use cotton, but you can use any other natural fiber like wool, linen or silk.

EMBELLISHMENTS: Let your creativity rule. Add beads, buttons, ribbon, lace, rickrack, or whatever if you feel like it. Or add nothing at all. It’s up to you.

CONSTRUCTION: Pick your technique. Doll quilts may be pieced, appliquéd, wholecloth, quilted by hand or quilted by machine. All quilts should have binding.

LABEL: Please add a label or sign your quilt on the back with your name and the date. It is a wonderful record of your work and years from now, it will help your partner remember who made this magnificent work of art! If your quilt is reversible and you don’t want to sign it, please include a card or attach a removable tag with your Quilting Board name or real name if different.

MANNERS: Don’t for get to thank your partner. A simple post on the thread for the month is terrific, but a PM is nicer still. Please leave feedback for your partner.

HELP YOUR HOSTESS KEEP TRACK: When you mail off your quilt, please send me a PM. Also send one when you receive a quilt you’re your partner. This will help me keep track and to ensure that everyone receives a quilt.

PHOTOS: At the Quilting Board we love photos! A big part of the doll quilt fun is seeing what everyone has created, but as with most things in life, there is a little etiquette to follow. Usually the receiver will post a photo, but not everyone has a camera, so please photograph your quilt before you send it just in case. Don’t post a photo until your partner receives your quilt so the surprise won’t be spoiled. If you cannot post a photo, please ask your partner to do so.

PARTNERS: Once sign up has ended, I will assign partners. I will try to pair you with someone you haven’t had as a swap partner previously. You will make a quilt for your partner and s/he will make one for you. Please PM your partner to share physical addresses. Do not post addresses on this thread. Although there is a theme and it is often sender’s choice, it is always nice to ask if your partner has any preferences.

COMMUNICATION: If something unexpected comes up and for any reason you cannot meet the deadline or need to drop out of the swap, please let me know as soon as you know. If you take the time to communicate any difficulties, I can make sure things work out favorably for you and your partner with no hard feelings as a result. If, however, you just disappear off the face of the earth, you will not be permitted to participate in future swaps until you make good on your commitment.

I had to laugh when I read this, the locals can always spot a "Yankee" at the beach. When we bought our home in Alabama, our neighbors were watching us wash windows in short sleeved shirts. The temps were in the 60's but they were nestled in their home wearing sweatshirts with the heat running.

In again!!

tlambing 10-25-2013 06:08 AM

Well, ya talked me into it! I've never done a doll quilt. Sounds like fun, and well, the instructions said I can make it anything I wanted.....Cool!
Sending pm :)

QuiltingKrazy 10-25-2013 08:03 AM

Welcome tlambing! Likethedog is also joining in this group from the table runner group! We're a fun bunch! We do normally have a monthly theme but the with holidays I figure it is easier this way. You can wait to get your partner and then discuss with her if you want to, or not, you don't have to!

kwiltkrazy 10-25-2013 08:59 AM

sitting on the fence, not yet sure, seeing what I can get done before time to sign up is here.

Elisabrat 10-26-2013 03:32 AM

I lived in Arizona. Up in Sedona, where it was a bit higher altitude 5,000 feet .. got hot in the days cool at nights especially in winter .. cool all day snowy sometimes at night.. down in PHX well they never got cool. In winter it was a frosty 75. I would see the nurses all in turtlenecks and sweaters/sweatshirts.. they said its COLD OUTSIDE. OMG.. brr almost freezing like lol.. I was wearing tank tops and tshirts.. and hot. I like cooler weather.. though a nice lounge chair half in the water on a Mexico lagoon with a cold beer in your hand.. its not too bad.. I need to be able to jump in too cool off or forget it. I am thinking you might be the only ones at the beach at this time of year.

Thanks likesthedog and tlambing for jumping over with us. Its fun and well we needed you!!! :) my girls are the greatest I think. now where else can I post...

Bilben 10-27-2013 08:52 AM

I'm in again. These swaps are what keep me trying new things.

Sapphire_Rae 10-27-2013 01:59 PM

Ok, I'm in this time. :) I would feel so left out if I didn't join. I have an idea if my partner wants a surprise, or if you want something particular I can work with that too. Must have been having a creative lull when I started doubting myself a few days ago...glad that didn't last long, hehe. Looking forward to making and receiving another one of these little darlings.

I'm in. I would not be in good humor if I had to miss another. LOL I did do some catching up, though. And that feels great. Finished up a quilt I started nearly 3 years ago. In time for the quilt show. Saw 6 or 7 quilts from last years group quilting. Last night I worked on finishing that one up. The top will be finished tonight, I hope. I have several tops ready to quilt, I hope to get working on them next. So many ideas, so many projects in the wings, so little time. This group is such fun. I put together a bunch of my swap quilts for the show. I am attaching a picture. Is your's in there? Missing Bertie and Brats cause they are hanging on the wall at the office and I forgot to grab them. Enjoy

Elisabrat 10-28-2013 06:03 AM

wow what a collection you have going there!! its fun to see them all together like that! I am excited for this challenge.. and with so much time.. if you end up with one short to pair people up Quiltingkrazy I can work with two people if needed :) this is where creativity REALLY hits the quilters challenge as there are numerous possibilities your partner could ask for. I am ready.. wonder if they are ready for me???

justducky65 10-28-2013 06:43 AM

Linny 10-29-2013 03:17 PM

I'm in.....thinking of something kind of Folk Artsy this time. We'll see what my partner thinks.
Sent you a PM.

Elisabrat 10-29-2013 04:13 PM

linny YIPPEEE and another one comes and another one comes and another one... hey is this like the ants come marching in hurrah hurrah the ants come.. no? its better? OH GOOD!

I think the clock is ticking and well I am so ready to make something. its snowy outside but think that more snow has passed and maybe the trick or treaters will be getting ready for some fun this week. Windy on Halloween but that never has stopped a kid yet I think. I just heard from dabbler. OMG she has over 200 bags of candy ready to hand out. I haven't had that in about 5 yrs and kinda think I will miss that. The children if there are any near me will surely go into town where the homes are all so close together. Do you still get lots of treaters???

buslady 10-30-2013 05:57 AM

Oh, my!!! Upside down? Must have been the gremlins. I would NEVER do that! I sure hope it did not cause all the devestation you guys have had there for the last few weeks!! How close are you to the fire? Went back and looked. How on earth did I not see that? Old age is kicking my A##s##s

Ms Grace 10-30-2013 07:12 AM

I am thinking Christmas of some sort or cows.. why cows don't know but after seeing a couple patchwork cows they are appealing to me a bit. ok I canmake a cow for me it would fit in perfectly with all my cows and cowboy artwork.. I can make a candy cane wall hanging.. or candy wall hanging I found a perfect pattern .. reds/whites/greens. you are going to love it! lol.. if you want Christmas that is..

Can totally agree, old age can make you do the weirdest things. The devastating fires were on the mainland (in the beautiful Blue Mountains area of New South Wales) so nowhere near me thank goodness. It is going to be a long hot and scary summer season for us if we have had such fierce fires in October when our worst time is Jan/Feb/Mar.

urgodschild2 10-30-2013 12:48 PM

Oh no Lynnie25, I went up there several years ago and it is such a beautiful place. Won't be back to australia for a while. My Daughter and Husband have bought their own Dental Practice and so no money for me to visit. In a few years I will be back. I haven't been doing the DQ for a while as I was very busy working on quilts that I have piled up to do. Yikes can't imagine how that happened? It's like they just kept growing. Hope to join back up in January.

paperpieceme 10-30-2013 04:33 PM

well ladies our family is back from our vacation, and working on recuperating. i was at hancocks of paducah last evening, and i can tell you it was very strange to be walking through the catalog. literally all of those beautiful fabrics are there sitting on shelves organized similar to how they are in the catalog and all of their shop ladies are pushing carts through this massive store gathering up bolts to cut for mail orders. I loved it but it was very surreal. we also went to the national quilt museum it was a beauty. now i am home, motivated to get my DQs for nov. and december done...

Linny 10-30-2013 06:30 PM

Ready to get started..got some wool and a few new cottons. It seems this one will be Christmas or not Christmas because of the delivery time and depending on what our partners would prefer. I love the holidays and something new to lay on the table would be nice. Brat, you mentioned cows...cows are good...and rabbits and sheep and feather looking trees and snowmen and stars.....oh now I really want to get started. We will know right after midnight I'm sure............HA!

Elisabrat 10-31-2013 04:29 AM

ok quiltingkrazy I think I would like two partners please. my ideas are going all over the place and I need to experiment with these ideas.. TWO did you guys hear me Please!!! I have too many ideas for just one. I think I can make sheep with a feather looking tree.. just have to figure out what a feather looking tree is so linny post a pic for me of that please...

OH YES HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

buslady 10-31-2013 05:31 AM

Happy Halloween!!! Raining cats and dogs here. Warm, though. Took a beautiful walk on the beach last night, my beach walking days are becoming scarcer and scarcer. Time to start working on those stones I been picking up all summer. I hope to make things out of them. HEHEHEHE! I am really looking forward to this swap, especially after skipping last month. That was hard. Now, 2 months in one? Yikes! I need 2 partners too. Have been thinking that all along, but finally decided to "go for it". Brat, it is your fault. Yes, I want 2 this time. At least one needs to make me a christmasy DQ. There, I said it. 2 please.
