Description: Dresden Plate fall flowers and leaves.
We will be using the block pattern Dresden Plate from Quilterscache.com. Here is the link.

http://quilterscache.com/D/DresdenPlateBlock.html

Make 12 blocks alike, you will receive one of yours back and 11 different blocks. The petals should be of fall colors, with leaves. Background could be beige, tan, darker yellows, pale golds - no white please. The blocks should speak 'FALL'.

Please mark EACH ONE of your blocks with a little slip of paper pinned to each block, or a sticky label can be used, please put the label on the back as sometimes some of the 'sticky' adhears to the block itself. Or you may write in somewhere that it will not bleed through with a permanent thin pigma pen. Please include your real name AND Board name.

You may send them to me any way you wish, just make sure you have a return ADDRESS label and a Flat Rate STAMP (NOT THE METERED STAMP) $4.95 for the returning blocks. You do not need to send an envelope. I have ordered padded FRE for your return swapped blocks. Sign-up will close on July 31. PM me if you wish to join.

Blocks due to me by August 31. Because of problems with the deadlines in other swaps, if there is going to be a problem with having them here by August 31, please pm me. You also have the option of dropping out of the swap. It is not fair for those who do honor the deadline to be waiting and waiting and waiting.
In accordance with general swap rules, failure to send promised BLOCKS will be reported in both the public column of the group activity matrix and as negative feedback against the profile of anyone who does not fulfill their commitment to the swap.

If you want to make multiple sets, just make sure you have 12 blocks of each SET design. You will receive back as many sets as you send. The flat rate bubble envelope will hold two/three sets. Any more than that, you will need another flat rate return address label and stamp.

I will post a pic of a sample block later.

This is an example of the finished block for this swap. It was made by Robert. Nice job!

No raw edge. I did the spring Dresden plate with leaves - using the Quilterscache.com template. I folded the top edge and did the petals as points instead of the round edge.

Is the thread corrected now? I know it had a double post and deleted, and reposted and moved....quite confusing after a bad day in Bedrock.

Merging them now - give me a second- and by the way I missed the spring swap  LOL I could do that one - its the hand applique that kills me

Lori, just check out the quilterscache.com site for the template. Also, if you go to the thread *flowers that bloom in the spring trala trala*, you will find a step by step tutorial on how to do this block. We did spring colors earlier, and now extending it to the fall colors.

Daryl 06-08-2011 05:29 AM

What is the address to send blocks

Daryl

Mamaskeeto 06-08-2011 06:38 AM

Okay I'm thinking of joining in on the fun but just want to make sure I understand. The Dresend Plate will have pointed plates like the tute on the spring swap shows and will also have leaves. We will be using a blanket stitch to attach plate to background.

QuilterMomma 06-08-2011 10:18 AM

thinking ckg time

The plates should look just like the spring ones - except have fall colors. No white background. Yes, pointed plates, and yes leaves. You may stitch as you want, blanket, satin, zigzag....what ever you prefer. Check out the tutorial on the spring flowers if you are not sure how to go about this. There is a step by step. Welcome!

fabric_fancy 06-08-2011 06:01 PM

i'm in for this one too.

sharon b 06-10-2011 09:01 PM

Ok I am going to be your problem child this swap  Do we prewash all the fabrics ? Background and stuff for the flowers & petals ?

rejenea 06-11-2011 12:12 PM

could you post a picture when you get a chance. One picture will tell me more than all the directions in the world. lol

thanks

Deb watkins 06-11-2011 12:18 PM

Yes, pre wash all fabric. I have Robert's fall blocks, and will post a pic of his. You can also see what the block looks like (only with the spring colors) if you go Flowers that Bloom in the Spring trala trala. This is the same block, we are doing a three part swap, spring, fall and winter.

It is a very simple block to do, though it is not one that you can rush through. I found that the best way to center my block was to fold my background fabric in half then into quarters, iron about 2 inches in from the edge, and I could line up my plates that way. I cheated and did the glue stick thing.....every other petal/plate I put a little gab of glue to hold it down.

fabric_fancy 06-16-2011 09:54 AM

i do the glue thing too.

i also tape the template to my rotary ruler (one on each end so i have both angle sides) and then i can cut everything quickly.

QuilterMomma 06-16-2011 10:21 AM

I do the glue thing, but love the tip on taping to my ruler. Never thought of that one.

Deb watkins 06-16-2011 10:44 AM

Aren't we just a very smart bunch of quilters!!

ok guys here's my fabric combos. i hope to start them next week

Deb watkins 06-17-2011 03:33 AM

Wow and wow and wow! You could use the second one as the background!!!

fabric_fancy 06-17-2011 09:14 AM

i wish i could use them for the background but i only have a few FQs of the Fossil Ferns not enough to make 12 blocks.

i wonder if i could make my own fossil fern type fabric - i've never done sun dyeing before - i might give it a try on a 13 inch square and see how it comes out.

would it be ok to use hand dyed fabric in the swap?

i use procion dyes and kaufman kona cotton PFD fabric.

Deb watkins 06-17-2011 09:28 AM

Just as long as the hand dyed will not run...I know we put alot of time into our quilts and such.....I have not ever used hand dyed fabric, (that I am aware of) so I don't really know what to tell you. Someone else help me along with this....

i'm almost done with my blocks. here's the pics - there's 4 of each colorway.

hope you guys like the blocks.

deb - does 2 sets fit into one package with the $4.95 stamp? if so i'll just wait until this swap is ready to ship and you can send me spring and fall at the same time.

Deb watkins 06-21-2011 11:23 AM

yes, two sets will fit into the FRE. I fold them individually, and that works best. I have the bubble envelopes and they are very nice for these types of swaps. Please make a note in your envelope about sending both spring and fall.....
