Here's the design pack I bought this morning for the swap.

http://www.emblibrary.com/EL/Product...roductID=X6925

I thought they would be great.
The hard part will be deciding which ones to use.

HomespunHandmaiden 06-06-2012 09:28 AM

I am so excited! I have a lot of ideas! :) I'm thinking leaves, trees, hot cider/tea...it's going to be such a fun swap!

QuilterMomma 06-06-2012 09:28 AM

I have that design pack Ms. Grace. Now that brings ideas for the funky chicken swap because I have some blackwork chickens that will work great for it and then I can clean out a UFO with them. Whoo Hoo, two birds with one stone, oops, that is six birds with one stone. Ahhhh, I feel better already, I have a set done for another swap.

Oh, you can give me one of those squirrels as well so I have two of them. I think this fall swap qill go in my office for the season.

QuilterMomma 06-06-2012 09:36 AM

Also, I have a pumpkin pieced block that I made up which will be fun to use. Oh, now here I go, I have to focus on the current swaps that are due and my blocks not finished 100%. They are close, hope I can get my machine to working so I can finish them up while other is embroiderying shoppping flamingos.

ozone3 06-06-2012 11:57 AM

Hi All,

I'm a new quilter (took a class about 5 years ago and just pulled my quilt top back out that I made to start working on finishing it). I've also started work on some other quilt tops also.

I had a question about this swap before I joined. Do the blocks have to be something pieced for Fall (such as the turkey that RedGarnett222 did) or can it just be a block with fall colors? I'm looking at some print for the main middle square of my block that has pumpkins on it.

QuilterMomma 06-06-2012 02:15 PM

Oooooo, that sounds pretty ozone3. Not sure what Red thinks, but I hope that woudl be something acceptable especially if you put a pumpkin the center. Oh how nice, it is still in the fall theme, hey Red, is that right? If that is the case, I know I got some great fabric for that. I could mix my pumpkin fabric and leaf fabric to make a pieced block which would be fun. Oh say yes pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese.

HomespunHandmaiden 06-06-2012 03:21 PM

Does this block look like it would be good for this swap? I figure an Fall quilt is not complete without this classic leaf block right? :) 6 1/2 "

HomespunHandmaiden 06-06-2012 03:22 PM

oops no pic..hmm...let's try again

Hi ozone,
I am sorry I missed your post. Fall colors is the subject mostly. It can be embroidery, or applique or pieced or ?? It is a funky swap and that means whatever you would like to make. Hope you join us and have a good time with the swap.

Here is the finish of the turkey blocks. I hope everyone likes them as much as I do! I am going to include the eye beads as a side pinned on addition.

Mariposa 06-09-2012 05:52 PM

Cute turkey, Red!!

HomespunHandmaiden 06-09-2012 07:34 PM

I LOVE the turkey! I hope I get one of those in my quilt!!! So cute!! :) :) :)

rwquilts 06-09-2012 08:04 PM

Red, I adore the turkeys! I really, really NEED one!!! :)

RedGarnet222 06-10-2012 06:53 AM

I am so glad to hear you all say that! Thanks so much to each of you for the positive response to him. :~)

Next are the squirrels. They are started and I will give you a sneek peek later. This is so fun!

OK Girls THis is the squirrel blocks. I kinda think it looks like a squirrel flying a leaf kite ... LOL!

You like it? I don't know why the background is showing kinda blue, but it is a mint green. I have attached the eye bead onto my name tag so you won't have to look for one. It is 9 1/2 x 9 1/2 square. Honestly... I think it looks much nicer in person.

rwquilts 06-10-2012 05:33 PM

It's a good thing I am finally done with blocks for another swap. I can now concentrate on this one. Your blocks Red, are causing me to think fall and it's not even summer yet! LOL! Super cute squirrel!

Ms Grace 06-10-2012 05:37 PM

very cute squirrel

HomespunHandmaiden 06-10-2012 07:00 PM

Oh my GOODNESS!!! Red, your blocks are some of the cutest I've ever seen!!! :) :) :) I'm so excited for this! I have lots and lots of precuts so some of my fabrics can't be prewashed...is that okay? Also, can I use white for some of my backgrounds?

RedGarnet222 06-11-2012 07:58 AM

Thank you rhonda, ms. grace and honespun! I loved making this set of squirrels.

Lol rhonda... I know what you mean about thinking fall. I have about a million cute images running around in my head. It is hard to choose my next set to make. It is between a cornicopia or a basket of pumpkins and gourds. Well, we will see how this comes together.

Homespun... Yes you can use the precuts. It is in the main page under the rules if you want to read it. OK? Have fun with your blocks!

:~)

QuilterMomma 06-11-2012 08:02 AM

You just have to let me have that little guy. I just adore it. He will go great in my office where this will hang. I feed the little squirrels here and so this would just kick the boss in the pants.

RedGarnet222 06-11-2012 08:16 AM

LOL I am so glad you like him quiltermomma! I don't care for squirrels in my yard. They eat my flower bulbs and young shoots up. But, when I lived in davenport, Ia., they had black ones in our neighborhood. They were fun to watch. A city to the north of us had white ones they prized highly. They would put corn on the cob up in the trees for them on a wooden holder.

QuilterMomma 06-11-2012 08:22 AM

fWhat is really funny is that we have a telephone pole next to our front porch at office. They hang upside down from their back legs/paws and eat the nuts we put out for them. We do not do shelled nuts anymore because they got so messy, but I buy the whole shelled nuts and there is less mess. I had a momma one a couple of years ago and she could come into the office onto the file cabinet and sit and eat the nuts with me at my desk watching her. She did not care and was not afraid of you. She had four babies in one of the spool wire reals on the warehouse shelf. She got ran over and we rescued the babies and took to the vet which is "licensed" to take care of baby squirrels.

RedGarnet222 06-13-2012 04:52 PM

Oh that is so sweet quiltermomma~ An animal advocate.

I am trying to figure out my next block. I want it to be crow on an apple.

QuilterMomma 06-14-2012 08:24 AM

I shew those crows away the big mean buggers. They pick on my squirrels and steal their food.

RedGarnet222 06-18-2012 04:40 PM

Now I don't think you will want to shoo these little guys away quiltermomma. They will be so cute!

Tam...Moo 06-18-2012 05:01 PM

I want to make sure you have me signed up for 2 sets.

RedGarnet222 06-19-2012 06:53 AM

All signed up tam. Welcome to the swap.

QuilterMomma 06-19-2012 12:30 PM

We will see after you post a photo.

RedGarnet222 06-19-2012 01:38 PM

Huh... That will be a little while quiltermomma! I have been pitting cherries like crazy and freezing them for later use. I have done half a five gallon bucket so far. The birds of the neighborhood think that my tree is the party place and I am picking as fast as I can ahead of them.

Then I am doing my major cleaning for the summer. I do that four times a year when the next season begins.

I did finish up the binding on another charity quilt yesterday. The pile is getting much lower now. Only five left to quilt and bind and I will be finished for the year on those.

I was over at elenore burns site this morning. She has the cutiest pumpkin farm pattern! I might have to buy that one.

QuilterMomma 06-19-2012 02:17 PM

See those crows are eating your cherries as well. Shame on them. Send me a batch. They sound good. Fresch cherry jam, yum. Then when you bring on over those cherries, you can clean my house as well. the walls need washed and painted while your at it. I will do those charity quilts for ya while you clean.
