If you would like to sign up for the Fall Holiday or Thanksgiving doll swap, please let me know by posting here or with a PM.

Please thoroughly read this first post. There is a lot of important info. And PLEASE remember that COMMUNICATION is the key to a good swap.

There will be a couple of different things for this swap. I know some of us liked the regular doll swaps better than the dotee doll swaps. I'm not supposed to host one of each for each month because there are SO many swaps going on. I thought I could try to make this better by TRYING to pair up those of you that would rather do a regular doll and those of you that would rather do a dotee. Now, there are no promises, especially since my swap numbers seem to be getting lower, and we may have more requests for a certain type or an odd number, but I can try. Now, anyone can make either type of doll. If you'd rather receive the same type you make (no 100% guarantee!), you need to let me know, AND everyone needs to let me know which type of dolls they will be making when they sign up. :) You may wish to make one of each...??

The other new thing I would like to do is an attached label. This can be a label made onto the doll or the doll's clothes or it can just be as simple as a paper tag pinned to the doll. The label (or tag) needs to have your screen name on it and the date. You may wish to add other info and/or details.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------->

If you haven't participated in one of my swaps before, all I ask is that you read this first post and send your dolls on/before the deadline.

I don't send or PM a pattern. If you do a little research, there are many helpful tips and some patterns posted in some of the other doll swap threads (see bottom of this post for links), among many other places on the www. Just keep in mind the guidelines.

There is info for each type of doll below...

RULE #1: READ ALL THE RULES AND ALL OF THE FIRST POST OF THIS THREAD!!!!

Anyone with a no-send will not be added to the swap list.
You must be 18 years old or older to participate.
AFTER I assign partners, you need to PM your mailing info to the two members that will be making your dolls. Please do this promptly.

"RULES":
1. Thoroughly read this first post.
2. If you have "no sends" (dolls not yet sent from previous swaps), complete those before signing up for another one. Lack of communication can look like a no send. A post needs to be made when you receive a doll from a member to let me know it's arrived and to say thank you to the maker. ;)
3. You make the dolls from start to finish. Please don't buy doll bodies or pre-made clothing--that isn't fair. They are a lot of fun. Everyone is on a different level.
4. If you want to participate, make it clear in your post so I don't accidentally sign up an innocent by-stander! (yes, I did).
5. It is not required that we send a gift (candy, fat quarters, threads, etc.) but a lot of members do, and it very nice. That's your choice.
6. HAVE FUN!

This is a swap where you will make two dolls to be sent to two different participating members. You will receieve two dolls from two different members in return.

NON-DOTEE (REGULAR-TYPE):
What/how: (for one doll) Take two 6 to 8-inch fabric squares--right sides together--and cut out your doll-shape. Sew, leaving an opening for stuffing, turn right-side-out. Stuff. Stitch shut. You may wish to draw a pattern on paper first, then trace onto the fabric. Each doll will be unique.
Or do it completely your own way, staying within the 6-8" requirements.

NOW GET CREATIVE! Add clothing, hair, buttons, beads, ANYTHING you desire! Most of all HAVE FUN!

These dolls don't weigh much, so they can be shipped pretty cheap. They will go first class in most cases, unless you are using something REALLY heavy in/on your doll.

Don't forget to take pictures of your dolls before you send them out. Post pictures of the dolls you receive, and of the dolls you make after they have been received by their new mommy.

I will assign partners in about two weeks on Friday, 6 November. That will give you a couple of days to exchange addresses.
Dolls need to be mailed NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 9, the Monday after I assign partners!

This swap is open INTERNATIONALLY...not just USA.

Be sure to remember to take pictures of the dolls you make in case someone you send to doesn't have a camera or a way to post pictures. DON'T post your pictures until after the recipient has gotten her doll so as not to spoil any surprises. I think it's neat to see photos of the doll in her original home and in her new home.

I will create a thread for photos of the dolls.
Have fun!

There is quite a lot of Dotee Doll fever going on out there in the world, so a basic Google search will give you plenty of inspiration.

ButtercreamCakeArtist 10-28-2009 03:52 PM

bump.

C'mon! We need at least a couple more! I'm going to play if I have time!

moosegirl 10-29-2009 06:57 AM

I'm on the list for Thanksgiving doll Moosegirl

ButtercreamCakeArtist 10-29-2009 04:59 PM

I believe this will work out, but I've had somone ask about sending and receiving one doll instead of two. If you would like to make and receive only one doll, please let me know, and let me know which type. This does not interfere with anyone who wants to swap two dolls.

barbsbus 10-29-2009 05:43 PM

I am willing to go either way and type of doll just let me know. Guess this is a busy time for lots of us and can understand why we don't have the long list of doll makers.

ButtercreamCakeArtist 10-30-2009 03:53 AM

I have:
1. Knot Sew
2. barbsbus
3. Chele
4. moosegirl

5. possibly Gwyn
6. possibly myself

I would like to have a few more swappers.

moosegirl 10-30-2009 04:38 AM

Hey ladies I'll do two sets, I love making these little gals and I have sooo many ideas to use up. Moosegirl

ButtercreamCakeArtist 10-30-2009 07:37 AM

And moosegirl twice. :D Awesome!

ButtercreamCakeArtist 11-03-2009 05:36 AM

1. Knot Sew
2. barbsbus
3. Chele
4. Moosegirl
5. Moosegirl
6. Gwyn (one doll)

Would anyone else like to play?

Chele 11-04-2009 01:24 PM

Nope! You haven't missed anything. We do need some more swappers. Well, we don't "NEED" more to make it work, but it would be nice to have a few more.

ButtercreamCakeArtist 11-07-2009 09:03 AM

I am going over the the pictures section to post a new thread for PICTURES of this doll swap.
This was fun getting everyone's partners figured out! I didn't have many swappers, and I had one swapper playing twice and one only sending one doll. (WHICH IS PERFECTLY FINE!) If I'd had one less swapper, I don't think things would've worked out. Like this, everyone gets to send moosegirl a doll and moosegirl will send everyone a doll. Here are your partners. I wanted to pair up regular doll swappers and Dotee doll swappers, but it didn't work out as I'd hoped with so few doll makers. I will keep trying! I hope everyone has fun with this and enjoys their dolls. I know you will enjoy each one of these sweeties.

YOU...............................send dolls to
1. Knot Sew......5 & 2
2. barbsbus............. 3 & 4
3. Chele............1 & 5
4. moosegirl....................6 & 1
5. moosegirl..........2 & 3
6. Gwyn............................4

moosegirl 11-09-2009 06:49 AM

OK glad to get our doll swap partner settled. I will be mailing tomorrow.

moosegirl 11-12-2009 09:56 AM

Well it was really hard to decide with doll lover would get which doll but all the "cuties" are in the mail and I hope everyone will be happy with the choice because they are all different. moosegirl

LindaR 11-13-2009 10:01 AM

can I jump in for a minutes...doll related but not the Nov swap. I did the swaps all summer both dolls and dotes. we have a gentleman locally who travels to Haiti for the "little dresses for Haiti" operation. I just wanted to let you know that all my dolls and dotes went with him to the orphanage. He says that when the girls get a doll they will each take an arm, leg, head etc and play with it and then exchange around. They don't have toys that we think of as toys and he was so glad to get them...swappers all my dolls that you made will make someone very happy....Happy Thanksgiving

ButtercreamCakeArtist 11-16-2009 05:15 AM

LindaR
That's a neat thing to have done with your dolls. It's very kind of you to think of others. Thanks for letting us know!

Boy, am I green with jealousy and envy for not participating! Those are all so cute!

barbsbus 11-19-2009 10:58 PM

I got two dolls in the mail today from Knot sew and Moosegirl. They are both adorable. Thank you so much. I have to get my camera from my daughter this weekend so I can take some pictures. They will have a special place on the display shelves in my sewing room and I will share them with all the great grands when they are old enough to appreciate them. For now they will be up high out of reach but I will be able to show them off with supervision. I really enjoy these doll swaps. I will be sending the dolls I have been working on early next week.
I am very busy getting ready for a presentation for my quilt guild next Monday. I am going to demonstarte how to make rag quilts and so I have been making four quilts for the great grands as part of the presentation and also lots of other visuals as part of the presentation. I still have one more quilt to make and I think I will make the dead line. I tend to procrastinate, but I do work pretty well under stress. LOL. It's sometimes kind of squirrely keeping DH happy and well cared for when I get involved with big projects.

Knot Sew 11-21-2009 11:22 AM

I got a really cute doll in the mail today from chele. She has black hair and a red christmas dress and a green scarf. also a fat of christmas fabric...thank you chelle.and Noel..her name  no picture as there is no camera  thanks again :D :D :D :D
