this sounds so fun..might have to get in on this one..I like the fact that you make the blocks before you sign up. I can shop for fabrics when I go to the Paducah quilt show. Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

donna873 04-17-2011 05:36 AM

Can we increase the number of blocks to 12 instead of 6?

sandpat 04-17-2011 06:23 AM

Lynnie...those are adorable blocks!! If I find time to do the swap...I would certainly trade you some extra blocks!

Hi Donna,

Yes the blocks can be 12 1/2 x 12 1/2 at the biggest. Then the multiples go just like the 3 1/2 ones. 12 1/2 x 3 1/2, 12 1/2 x 6 1/2, 12 1/2 x 3 1/2. (And the same with the 6 1/2 inch blocks.) That gives us some creative wiggle room. LOL!

Me too Lynnie! I have almost finished the party withches hats. Then I will get the other set finished this week. I will work in some extra blocks here and there until the swap is over to make my quilt larger than the 12 blocks will allow. So a side swap works in great with me!

Thanks for offering!

SazuBMidlands 04-17-2011 12:21 PM

I have another question which I don't think I've seen answered... what about embellishments? Can we assume these are mostly going to be wall hangings and such, so we dont need to worry about buttons, beads, sequins etc, or do we need to consider these might end up with very small children. Just thinking of how to do eyes and things.
Thanks :-)

I think she means can a set be increased from 6 in a set to 12.

LOL yup, that is what I meant..

RedGarnet222 04-17-2011 04:23 PM

Ok gals ... My bad. The 2 sets would be 12 blocks. If you want to do twelve alike that would be ok. But, the board has limited the swap participants to swapping out twelve blocks. (2 sets) each.

As far as making eyes with buttons or embelishments I think that would be ok. Just don't go too crazy. I will leave it p to the makers. I was thinking washable wallhangings myself.

What do the rest of you think? It is after all OUR swap. Meaning everyones ...

cbridges22 04-17-2011 07:14 PM

I love them!So let me make sure I under stand. 1 Set=12 blocks,right.

RedGarnet222 04-18-2011 07:36 AM

No one set is 6 blocks. If you do two it is twelve. I know that is a ton of numbers in the title page.... LOL!

donna873 04-18-2011 07:57 AM

I think making them washable is the best, personally, I don't like the ironed on..needs to be either satin stitched, blanket stitchet etc in my opinion.

lynnie 04-18-2011 08:31 AM

OMG, just love those witch hats, I NEED ONE!!!!!! it's sooo cute.
why can we only swap 2 sets, why did the board limit us???? just courious.

I really want to do this one, but will put it on the back-burner for now. (nursing school graduation is in 6 weeks and I need to study)

Hope you can concentrate well. Will be thinking of you and praying it goes well. We need all the nurses we can get.

Hi Lynnie,
I made an extra just for you and the side swap already.... LOL! I am so glad you like them.

They limited it because this is my first swap to host on this board and they were afraid the swap would be too much of a strain on me if there were tons of blocks (swappers) to care for. They don't realize that organization is my best asset. I have been that way all my life. I love organizing and leading a group. (Church groups and school taught me that.)

Maybe the next time it will be different.

This is going to be one of my blocks.. I am so excited to do them. This was from the Witchy Sue Quilt that had been posted earlier..the owner was so generous to share her pattern which I digitized for my embroidery machine.

moosegirl 04-19-2011 04:48 AM

I think I will have to join in the ghoulish fun of this one, will do one set of something, haven't decide on what yet. Moosegirl

RedGarnet222 04-19-2011 07:40 AM

Oh donna... those are so adorable! I know everyone will want one! How sweet of her to share with you.

Ahh I got it moosegirl! You are all signed up! Welcome to the group! ( I should never try and read pm's before my first cup o' joe.... lol!

Here is my second set finished ... I think they are cute! I used a charm pack from sandy gervis, "Pumpkins Gone Wild", by moda on them. I will include some glass (Sprinkles) beads on the side in case someone wants to embellish them after they are quilted. I am going to look for an eyeball or something for the cherry too.

Note ... The color of the block background is more poison green than is showing here and the cupcakes look much more bright in person. Oh well I tried to show them.

Halloween party cupcakes! LOL....

Dragonfly Nana 04-19-2011 01:58 PM

Red, what about a candy corn for the top?
All these blocks are so cute......I may have to join this one.
Let me see what I can come up with before I committ.

jetnica 04-19-2011 03:02 PM

oh - i need one of those cupcakes!!!

cbridges22 04-19-2011 03:09 PM

I am paper piecing candy corns,as soon as I get one done I will post a pic.I want a cup cake!

RedGarnet222 04-19-2011 04:19 PM

Two orders of cup cakes coming right up! LOL! I will remember when it comes time to divy them up that you both want one.

I am so happy to hear that you are working on your blocks. I am thinking about sending a special surprise to anyone who gets thiers in early. I have to think about how early, but, doesn't that sound like fun? Good incentive to get a wiggle on ... LOL!

quiltwoman 04-20-2011 04:56 AM

They all look GREAT!

I made a pp pumkin so far--once I find the camera, I'll take some pix.

lynnie 04-20-2011 10:54 AM

i NEED a cany corn and a witch.
I NEED A WITCH for this
otherwise, it's just a fall quilt!

jetnica 04-20-2011 12:01 PM

I think going to do spiders and trick or treat candy. May work on them this weekend. Most likely 9 1/2 inch blocks.

That ok?

RedGarnet222 04-20-2011 03:48 PM

I will try and make sure you get one each of those lynnie.

Why sure jetica , it sounds wonderful for our swap! I was thinking of making some spiders too. They are so creepy crawly ... LOL!

I went lookng for toppers for my cupcakes but no go so far. (wrong time of year I guess) I might have to make something!

pattis47 04-20-2011 04:02 PM

Do I understand that if I make 12 1/2" square blocks I might get 3 1/2" blocks in return?

RedGarnet222 04-20-2011 06:35 PM

patti,
When I divy up the blocks I will make sure to try and make the blocks be as close to the same as I can. It will depend on what is sent. There are three others that are making twelves so far that I know of that is... But, that is half of the fun of swapping! There will be an element of surprise.

fabric_fancy 04-21-2011 09:31 AM

i haven't started my blocks yet but with the rough outline i've done the witch block can be a 12.5 block and the vampire fangs will be a 9.5 block.

cbridges22 04-21-2011 11:10 AM

I think my candy corn blocks will be 6.5.

RedGarnet222 04-21-2011 12:19 PM

I think different sized blocks is what makes these quilts darling when they are finished. I love it that everyone has fun with thier blocks and makes them to suit the subject. It is so american... LOL!

Just have fun girls and enjoy the process.

Julianna 04-21-2011 03:13 PM

Interesting, and how about an alternate swap for autumn themes, or Thanksgiving?
